Extra Curricular Information

I added this info with the hopes that it will help other people out in gauging their chances.

Major: Politics, Philosophy, Economics: basically three big minors. Lots of breadth, not much depth.

GPA: First two years: 3.1 Last two+ years: 3.8 Reason: I was not interested in school first two years and had no motivation. I took 1.5 years off from school and reprioritized my life.

ECs:
1) Fraternity Treasurer (elected as a sophmore). In my fraternity, the Tres. was considered next in line for the Pres.
2) Co-taught one-semester freshman general studies class with a grad student
3) Volunteer for an organization that enables special athletes to utilize adaptive equipment and human kindness to enjoy alpine activities. One winter
4) Co-led Bible study through an organization called the INN with a female co-leader. One school year. About 25 freshman and sophmores were in the Bible study.

Work experience:
Cooking during school year and commercial fishing in AK during the summers. Other jobs in the mix. 30-40 hours/wk while in school last 2.5 years. 100+ hours/wk during the summer.
I paid for everything and took out ass loads of loans from freshman year on.

Personal statement:
My ps was a risk. It had nothing to do with law school or why I want to go to law school.
I wrote about the five summers I worked on commercial fishing boats in Alaska by describing three or four scenes and adding connecting information. I used the scenes to illustrate traits and characteristics of mine that were not evident in the other parts of my application. In total I described a half hour of fishing, these 30 minutes being selected from about 2000 hours spent on the water. My essay needed an interested and intelligent reader to compile a picture of me from the words I wrote. If anything I wanted the ps to differentiate me from all of the other talented and qualified applicants.

Additional info & updates

Fee waivers: Tulane, DePaul, Pace, Quinnipiac, Suffolk, Western New England, Roger Williams.

2/4/06
I applied to Cardozo today for May.

I made a $60 donation to Wake Forest today. I would rather apply and be rejected than always wonder what could have been.

2/22/06
My first decision today. Waitlisted at DePaul. The LSAC caclulator gave me a 75% chance of admissions. Wow, I must have screwed up something in my application. OR maybe it is my LSAT score since I am TWO WHOLE points below their median.

3/03/06
First acceptance today. Syracuse. WOOHOO, I'm going to law school!
Seattle e-mailed me to say I went complete on 02/09/06. 8 days to go complete and 20 or so days for the e-mail to get to me, their e-mail must be really slow.

3/12/06
Northeastern rejection via snail mail. Whateva.

3/16/06
ACCEPTED AT TULANE! I AM SO EXCITED I AM TYPING IN ALL CAPS! NOTIFIED VIA E-MAIL!

3/20/06
Waitlisted at Miami. It was a really nice letter. I am an "alternate selection" and it was "impossible" to admit me at this time. Should have applied earlier, considering their first deadline for being complete would require that the app be submitted in early December. Oh well.
No beach for me.

3/27/06
Waitlisted at American. Should have applied earlier...
The schools sure are making my decision easier.

3/31/06
I got an e-mail today from Seton Hall that, if true, means I am accepted and am being offered a merit scholarship.

04/05/06
Yes...the e-mail was, in fact, for me. Accepted at Seton Hall with a Dean's scholarship! Very interesting...

04/06/06
Seattle U. wants me, but not that bad. Now the decision becomes somewhat difficult. I love the Pacific Northwest. I can see myself living there and enjoying it. Seattle is a great city. But man, Tulane...

04/08/06
Waitlist at Wake Forest. I consider the waitlist, rather than a rejection, a victory!

04/17/06
The LSAT strikes again! Waitlisted at Brooklyn today. The letter says that if I am accepted off of the waitlist it will be for part-time. The reply card is due in two days, WOW so much time to think about it. Also, I should have applied earlier.

04/21/06
Waitlist at Cardozo. The cycle is over and I am satsified with the results.

04/23/06
Tulane it is. Wow! And I wouldn't have even applied there if it wasn't for the fee waiver.

05/01/06
Wake Forest continues to be impressed with my application. Preferred waitlist.

05/15/06
Cardozo started summer classes today. No word from them, I guess that means WL, Reject.

Congrats on Cuse, did you ever get a complete notice? How long did it take from complete to a decision?

Hey, I went to the admitted students day @ Miami, and just to give you a heads up, most people I talked to sounded like they were considering Miami if they didn't get into their top choices. So, that should open up quite a few spots I'm sure! Good Luck:) Maybe I'll see you @ the U next year:)

Tulane!

Hope to see you at Tulane!

Yo!

Hey thanks, man! Congrats to you on your acceptances! Some of my soft factors were: -Phi Beta Kappa -Played for 10 years in a touring punk rock band -First in my family to graduate college -Currently working in the radio industry -Also, I applied last year to SU and was rejected. I don't know how that factored into my decision this year. Anyways, I visited SU the other night for the first time for their admitted student reception. The law building itself is seriously awesome. It's very new and modern. All of the professors and faculty I spoke with were quite friendly and even a little humorous. At this point, I'm pretty sure I'll be there this fall. Where are you leaning toward going do you think?

Brooklyn

Dude, and I thought I was the waitlist god. Are you going to give the finger to Brooklyn, or what?
