Additional info & updates

I applied pretty early and got back U of Tulsa decision back within about a month. 12,000 nice scholarship offer.

I applied to Texas Tech's early decision (binding) program and a week after they said they would start looking at apps I got accepted. No scholarship offer but Tech is only 12,000 per year with very good stats for employment bar passage and salary. Everybody has had me worried about the fact that numbers is all they consider, but I think that is incorrect. Both my LSAT and my GPA fall below Tech's medians.

A couple reasons I think I was accepted at Tech.

--A great personal statement. I have some great experiences as a young married man with a child and lots of extracurricular activities with meaning. I was President of a service frat, worked for a congressman, worked for a lawyer, etc... The key to a good personal statement, in my opinion, is to make it personal, and to write with passion while telling a story about who you are as a person. My wife helped emensely in figuring out what to write about to tell the right story about my life.

--I went to the law school fair at my college and talked with the Tech booth about my interest in the school. Taking my wife with me to the fair, really paid off because she and I both hit it off on a personal level with the admissions staff. Talk real with people, and don't just go through the motions of normal questions. Really get into it with people and talk on a personal level. My wife noticed as I left they starred the card I filled out for them.

I'm withdrawing all my other apps because of the binding decision.

Anyways, that is where I'll be. Texas Tech. Feel free to ask questions or post comments!

Received Oklahoma City University acceptance 12-08-06 with a $46,000 scholarship offer. As nice as it sounds Texas Tech is still the better option. It is less expensive school and has better stats.

Baylor rejection 12-13. I really don't care. Going to Tech.

12-28 Visited Lubbock for the first time ever. It looks really nice and I am really excited about moving up in June!

Congrats on Tech. It gives me hope as it's my reach school. I'm glad to see they are willing to take a chance on the outliers.

Congrats!

I'm thinking of applying there...but I'm worried my UGPA was too low. Anyway, congratulations to you and your family!
