Extra Curricular Information

I have tons of extracurricular info, I will update toward the end of my cycle. For now, I just want to say that I was an unlikely candidate for law school. Prior to my work experience working with awesome attorneys who encouraged me to pursue my goals, I never thought I would even attend college. My parents didn't graduate high school and I'm the first in my family to attend college. I have been very blessed through my entire journey, I've met amazing people who have encouraged me and guided me along the way.

Additional info & updates

8-25-10 My IU-Indy app is for "full-time or part-time." I should be able to apply pretty early, I have my PS and resume ready to go, just waiting on my transcript to be sent and LOR's.

9-9-10 wow complete at IU Indy just one day after being sent. I'm not sure if that's the normal procedure or if they are just that on the ball this early in the season. I applied to John Marshall on August 24th and it still says "app received."

9-11-10 John Marshall status checker says its being reviewed by a member of the faculty admissions committee. This makes me a little nervous, I was told during my visit that files will generally go to the admissions committee if it cannot be outright approved for admittance. (Otherwise the dean admits).

9-15-10 John Marshall status checker changed to "decision mailed." Oooh the suspense.

9-18-10 John Marshall acceptance letter came today along with an award of a full-tuition scholarship. I have been crying ever since I opened the package! Amazing!

10-11-10 In review at Chicago-Kent. I'm trying to not expect anything as quick nor as amazing as my first acceptance to JMLS.

10-13-10 In review at Valpo. I wonder if its a good thing that I'm in one of the first groups to be reviewed.

10-16-10 In review at University of Chicago. I'm a little surprised, perhaps they assume my file with be an easy denial. I assumed I'd be at the bottom of the review pile. This makes me feel good, but I'm not getting my hopes up. This gave me the confidence to finally submit my NDLS app. today.

11-5-10 In review at University of Chicago, Chicago-Kent, Notre Dame, IU Bloomington, and Valparaiso. A rep from Valpo told me that I should receive a decision by Thanksgiving. I hope so!

11-10-10 In review (finally) at IU Indy! I hope it won't take too long to make a decision.

11-16-10 In at Mich State with a full-ride scholarship! Received a voicemail message congratulating me, details to follow by mail. Still in review at Valpo and IU Indy.

11-19-10 In at Valpo with a full-ride scholarship! I am in total shock. 3 for 3!

12-7-10 Chicago Kent status checker changed to "final review" so I'm hoping to hear from them soon.

12-9-10 Chicago Kent status checker changed to "admitted." I hope to receive materials in the mail soon. No information about scholarship offers was included in the status checker so I'm unsure if this means I will be offered anything.

12-13-10 Received an email from IU-Indy informing me of my acceptance. Status checker says decision letter sent with dollar figures for a seat deposit. Checker also says full-time program so apparently I made it into the full-time (I applied either ft or pt with hopes of maximizing my chances). I guess I have to wait for the acceptance letter to find out about scholarship offers.

12-21-10 (Finally) received my mailed materials from Indy (no scholarship) and Chicago Kent (10k a year, no minimum gpa requirements to renew). I am disapointed about Indy, it had previously been my 1st choice school but knowing that I could attend Michigan State with a 100% scholarship I will likely attend there instead.

1-7-11 Two days after emailing Indy asking they consider me for any scholarships which would be on-par with the other three I have received from other schools, I received an email today - they are offering me close to full-tuition. Very happy!

1-19-11 Very surprised to receive an acceptance from Notre Dame, much less with the $18,500 per year scholarship. As a child I would dream of attending Notre Dame even before I knew what I wanted to study. I really hope I can somehow come up with a way to pay for the rest of tuition!

Thank you very much! I hope this early success is a predictor of what is yet to come. Best of luck to you as well!

Wow, that is so awesome that your first acceptance just so happens to be a full-tuition scholly. Here's to hoping I have the same fortune! LOL. Keep it up...

Thanks - and best of luck to you! Maybe we will be classmates next year!

Thanks twin

I would be interested in John Marshall only if nothing else falls through. I am pretty satisfied that with my choices I will get selected by somebody..but we will see..lol. Good luck with your cycle and congrats on the acceptance..full ride that is awesome!

Any word

from IU-Indy yet? I just sent mine off today.

Nothing on IU Indy yet which is making me a little nervous. I'm really warming up to JM though so I guess I wouldn't be "too" disapointed if I didn't get in ED or otherwise. I was a little upset when I called their financial aid office and they told me there was no way I'd be offered a scholarship with my lsat score. They said they begin awarding $ at 157.

JMLS

Wow! Congratulations on JMLS and the Full ride! Amazing! I hope I get something similar, I won't uncross my fingers until the letter comes!

Thanks! Best of luck to you! You are clearly a competitive applicant - congrats on the acceptances and scholarships thus far! Perhaps I will see you at JMLS next year!

MSU
Monday, October 18 2010 at 08:00 PM

When you got your acceptance call had anything changed on your status checker? My status checker has said "Application Complete" since about the tenth of October. I suppose it probably doesn't matter a ton as I am 95% sure I won't go (I got into a T50 school!) but I am just curious :). Also, congrats! Especially with all of that scholarship money.

No, in fact, I just checked my application status checker for MSU and it still says "application complete." I never even went into review! How's that for keeping you guessing? Congrats on your acceptance. Don't rule out MSU yet, apparently they have money to give. Sometimes rank isn't everything depending on your end-goals.

Kent
Monday, December 13 2010 at 07:00 PM

Hey, just wanted to get your thoughts on kent. I'm assuming the 113,000 is a full ride for the 4 years?

@hailtothepose
Tuesday, August 03 2010 at 08:00 PM

I only received a $30k scholly from Kent. My full ride to John Marshall is contingent on me remaining in the top third of the class and is renewable for all 4 years.

Gotcha
Monday, December 13 2010 at 07:00 PM

Sorry I def read that wrong. How do you feel about the JMLS scholly? The criteria seems a bit stringent to me.

@hailtothepose
Tuesday, August 03 2010 at 08:00 PM

You are correct about the scholarship requirements at JMLS being very stringent. The fact its not contingent on my performance alone, but rather contingent on my position within the entire class makes me nervous. Currently I think Michigan State is my #1 choice. Though I was thrilled to receive an acceptance from IU-Bloomington (but with no scholarship offer).

I basically just said that I would very much like to attend their school and that though I would be satisfied attending one of the schools I received full-tuition scholarships to, their school was and still remains my top choice. I also said that due to my commitment to social justice, that I am very mindful of the amount of debt I am undertaking. I hope this helps. Best of luck!

Nope, those are my numbers. But I see what your eluding too. Soft factors really do matter, and I have them.

Just wondering if you've crept any closer to a decision yet or not? You absolutely killed your cycle!
