FORDHAM LAW!

fyi: i am still, kinda, checking this so if you have any questions about any of the schools i visited and considered very carefully (fordham, BU, tulane, brooklyn, indiana or cornell) i will be happy to help.

i rode the BU waitlist out until the end...no dice. not particularly dissapointed.

i am an lgbt applicant; i was "out" on some apps, not on others. i tried to do this strategically and i believe i have some insight on the application process and the levels of toleranance at some of these schools in particular. (fwiw, i was "out" cardozo app)

to recap: decent money at brooklyn...turned down for a late offer at tulane...upped to almost full-tuition at brooklyn...decided to stick with tulane...accepted to emory off of the waitlist...held off and decided to stick with tulane again...then, one day at work i get the fordham email saying i am in...i was actually surprised by how happy i was...im one of those types that is generally unimpressed, especially with himself--but i was dancing around the office and pumping my fist...happy to say that im...GOING TO FORDHAM!

i will not miss this process..much.

if you told me that, after getting the 164, i'd end up at fordham then i would have been happy.

i really did want to go to cornell but i had a bad games section on the lsat and those 4 points on my raw score decided the next 3 years of my life. oh well, life is a bit of a game anyway.

i am probably crazy to give up a full ride at brooklyn to go fordham but the crazy shit ive done my whole life has worked out pretty well for me.

still on the waitlist for BU but i have exactly 0 expectations that anything will happen. i also think i would decline it anyway just because of the inconvenience and lack of tangible gain.

i did my best this cycle and i ended up with 5 options that have truly made my efforts worthwile: indiana half-tuition, brooklyn full-tuition, tulane 2/3 tuition, emory at sticker and fordham at sticker.

since i began lsat prep--and through this whole process--i have lost a girlfriend, started smoking, and sincerely thought a nervous breakdown was around the corner almost every week. but, i got through it and i am going to a school that was my second choice all along.

the cycle wasnt perfect, but hey, neither am i.

law school will be much more interesting with people like you with a good sense of humor. Here's to hoping it doesn't suck.

I haven't visited the law school, but my brother went there for undergrad, so I've been there quite a few times. Is Wake one of your top choices? It is a very pretty campus!

Thanks your condolences LOL. I applied to Cornell as a shot in the dark. I got the rejection letter and it was oddly cathartic. In terms of Fordham, I'm dying to go there. I have some sort of emotional desire to be there, it's odd. But...the Cardozo $$ is really tempting. I'm broke and it's looking like max loans so it will be a tough choice when I finally have to make it. Is your Fordham app PT or FT? I went PT because I wanted a sure thing acceptance (1st choice school) but with our numbers, we are both pretty competitive applicants. GOOD LUCK!

thanks!

Yea man, hard to go wrong with Tulane. Great school, well known, and in a kick ass city. I am definately interested in Brooklyn but they have to make a really nice offer because I'm craving warm weather

nice ding from dozo- you shoulda been in easily!..now I have cause for concern...but yeah, can't take it personally- check out some of my hot rejections. U Miami is my favorite- rejected on the same day TLS came out with a thread entitled "Miami is letting in EVERYONE this year!" grrrrr... and don't be sad about seton hall- it has a good regional reputation.

Thank you very much, congrats to you as well. I did go to the wake open house and glad I did, i liked it a lot so it moved up a bit on my list. I'm technically "on reserved" at cornell, they sent me a letter about 2 weeks ago. They will notify me if I am put on the waitlist or something. Good luck to you with the rest of your cycle!

Got the BU waitlist today via snail mail. Regular business envelope. I will stay on it. I hear they call you if accepted. Good luck!

Congrats on the IU scholly. Will you be at the ASD on Saturday? And don't worry, plenty of my shot in the dark schools still haven't come to a decision, and I really just want them to reject me and get this over with. Where are you leaning? Or are you waiting on your other apps before you make a decision?

Sunday, February 15 2009 at 07:00 PM

I wish I was flying in. I was a late applicant, so I got the acceptance about two weeks ago (if that). Plane tickets were expensive, and most had lay overs longer than the drive. I drove up to UIUC from Atlanta today to check out the campus and talk to some people, to make an informed decision if (or when) I come off of their WL. So I will be in that afternoon. With the amount of driving I will be doing, I'm going out on Friday. And Saturday. I hope my hotel is next to some better spots than the one I have in Urbana.

Cornell

Hey I am the one who just left the message about Cornell and my friend getting in with lower numbers... I wasn't signed in then....

Tuesday, March 24 2009 at 08:00 PM

I know you aren't going there now, but how did you get IU to reconsider your scholarship amount? I'd really like to try to up mine. Good luck with hearing back from your last three schools!

IU
Tuesday, December 02 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thanks a lot! I did not negotiate for a scholarship reevaluation, so as far as I can tell the new offer was out of the blue. However, I was in discussion with a student there whom I told I was unsatisfied and probably not considering admission to IU as a result. She works closely with admissions so its very possibly that she served as a "little birdie" to the powers that be... good luck at Brooklyn (or with the WLs)

you have the opportunity to live like a king in one of the most fun cities in america... why would you want to pay double to live in the ghetto of LA? throw away your winter clothes, your pop music, and your shame cuz youre movin to NAHLEANS!

Saturday, December 20 2008 at 07:00 PM

i did visit, i was at the first open house in early march. the shcool impressed me and obviously i had a great time in the city. actually just got back today from my second visit where i secured housing. 6 blocks from school, 6 blocks from street car, rent is 666/mo. i guess im going to hell. see you there, unless i dont. all the best.

Emory
Saturday, June 28 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on getting into Emory as well! I have visited Emory and I really liked the school. It is situated on a beautiful campus and the law school is very comfortable. Also, Atlanta is an amazing city with tons of stuff to do, has cheap rent for nice apartments, and Emory is located in one of the nicest neighborhoods of Atlanta. I think you can't go wrong by choosing to go there. Good luck on your decision and let me know if you have any further questions.
