Additional info & updates

10/30/07: Email from Minnesota telling me app is complete for early notification, even without 2nd LOR.

11/09/07: Accepted to UMN! Voicemail from Julie Tigges, Director of Admissions.

11/16/07: Found out my Dean's certifications for Stanford and BU will be sent next week. Ugh.

11/25/07: Didn't check my campus mail the day before Thanksgiving, came back to find the Georgetown letter (postmarked 11/19) with handwritten note. No money, but it doesn't look like scholarships have been offered yet.

11/26/07: Dean's certifications sent (Stanford via FedEx, BU regular mail)

11/28/07: Northwestern interview. Very easygoing, interviewer didn't care about my lack of work experience, though made it clear that the dean of the law school prefers it. I'm very busy - will probably submit the NW application this weekend.

11/29/07: Did NOT hear from Berkeley... looks like most other people who went complete on 11/28 with my numbers got in today. Hope that's not a bad sign.

12/05/07: Complete at Stanford. Posting because it's the first of HYS. Only two people who went complete at this time last year got decisions by the end of the month, and both were URMs.

Still waiting for PT from Duke, glad my SSN wasn't stolen.

12/06/07: Emailed Duke after the hacker fiasco, turns out I went complete already and I should expect a decision by tomorrow.
Complete at Harvard! No Toby Stock email or call though.
"Got yo app" email from Yale.

12/07/07: In at Duke! Email very conveniently had "You're In!" in the first line, so it popped up on my Thunderbird notification. Received at exactly 12:00 PM.

12:58 PM - Email from Dean Tom at Berkeley!

Big envelope from NYU!!! Acceptance letter dated 12/03, envelope postmarked 12/06.

12/11/07: Complete at Yale. Let the games begin.

12/17/07: Acceptance packages from Berkeley and Duke arrive as close together as their emails.

12/19/07: I feel complete.
4:55 PM: When I saw that 215-area code number on my phone, I thought:
a)Uncle? b) LSAC? c) Penn?
The answer was c.

12/27/07: Able to log in to admitted students website at GW. Called 12/28 to confirm.

1/2/08: Email from GW. Package arrived 1/7.

1/8/08: Went to decision on UVA status checker. Acceptance letter delivered to "current" address later in the week, with dean's scholarship offer: typically no less than half tuition.

1/9/08: Phone call from Cardozo: Paulsen scholarship - full tuition and $10,000 stipend.

1/11/08: Very nice letter and brochure from Cardozo in a translucent plastic envelope.

1/15/08: Michigan status checker changed to "decision." Huge envelope arrived 1/18 with nice handwritten note from Dean Z and actually useful housing materials.

1/20/08: Withdrew from Minnesota. It was tough; they were really nice. Confirmed by email and the new UMN status checker 1/22. Offered to let me "reconsider [my] decision."

1/23/08: Columbia! Green envelope and folder. Sparse materials but promise of more on the way. No scholarship offer, but I'm thrilled!
Later in the day: Darrow app invite from Dean Z at Michigan.

1/24/08: Invitation to apply for James Wilson scholarship at Penn ($20,000/year).

2/1/08: In at Fordham (finally) via email. I'm actually a bit surprised, but glad I get to check it off.

2/3/08: A 203 area-code call at 4:45PM! In at Yale, contrary to my expectations. I guess those two extra weeks of PS editing paid off.

2/5/08: Withdrew from Cardozo (first time I ever walked away from $150,000!) and BU (application still pending, no Dean's scholarship for me).
Call from Yale to set up a "buddy" with similar interests.

2/7/08: Call from Chicago at 3:40 PM. CCN sweep complete! Not as exciting as Sunday, but nice to have the option.

2/8/08: Almost the week from paradise. Deferral email from Harvard.

2/12/08: Withdrew from Fordham.

2/13/08: A good day.
1:24 PM - Full Darrow! Had a nice chat with Dean Zearfoss.

2:50 PM - A 617 area-code call... from BU. Apparently they didn't get my withdrawal email or just let me in anyway. Letter arrived on Valentine's Day; red-and-white color scheme was appropriate.

2/25/08: Email from Penn offering Wilson Scholarship ($20,000/year). Replied with other offers.

2/26/08: Phone interview with Renee Post, Associate Dean of Admissions at Penn. Will be considered for Levy Scholars Program (full tuition first year, 2/3 second and third).
Presidential Scholarship: $20,000/year plus one year of housing.

Withdrew from Northwestern. Seems like they sent out decisions on 2/28 - maybe my acceptance was sitting in their pile. Don't regret my withdrawal, however.

2/29/08: Offered Levy scholarship at Penn via e-mail.
Dean's Scholarship at BU (postmarked 2/26), even after withdrawing a second time. Called the office and confirmed that my application was withdrawn, but scholarship offer was sent the same day.

3/10/08: Withdrew from Chicago and Duke.

3/15/08: Received $50,000 scholarship offer from Chicago. Maybe I should have waited before withdrawing, but I'm not going to rescind.

3/18/08: Withdrew from GULC and (gasp) Berkeley.

3/26/08: Scholarship award letter from UVA.

3/27/08: Declined Levy and withdrew from Penn over the phone (during scheduled call). Was not easy to do, but felt it was the right thing at this point.

4/14/08: Withdrew from UVA.

4/15/08: Withdrew from Columbia, which was my top choice at the beginning of the cycle

4/22/08: Awarded NYU IP Scholarship ($10K first two years, $5K third year). Declined and withdrew immediately.

4/24/08: Withdrew from Michigan

4/25/08: Harvard waitlist email - declined. Called Stanford - waitlist offer sent out a few days ago.

Sent deposit to Yale! CYCLE OVER!

definitely not SURE i don't want to be in new york. since i'm from NYC i feel like i should get out, but at the same time, with $$ and if my boyfriend gets a job in NYC, i would have to seriously consider it.

lsat addendumMonday December 31st 2007 12:38pm
hey, we have similar-ish numbers (including similar-ish multiple lsat scores). did you submit an addendum? good luck on the rest of your cycle. seems you don't really need it.

CardozoThursday January 10th 2008 11:34am
Congrats on all your acceptances so far!
I think we got the same offer from Cardozo and interpreted it differently. Did the admissions dean at Cardozo say that the 10K stipend was renewable for each year? All she told me was "full tuition plus a 10K stipend" and I didn't ask for clarification.
Are you planning to go to any Admitted Students events?
- funkyduck

WebpageThursday January 10th 2008 9:45pm
Thanks, I saw that scholarship description after posting before. Cardozo just became $20,000 more appealing! I don't know when the ASW(s) will be, but I'm not far out of Manhattan, so I'm pretty sure I'll make it. I think visiting info is supposed to come in our letters.
If you're coming straight out of undergrad, you're probably well-placed for one of those big NW delayed scholarships as well. Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

me too... that's okay, it makes my decision for me. where do you think you'll be heading? i can't believe you were deferred at harvard. that's pretty ridiculous.

Thanks!

Yeah, it is pretty crazy to look back and see that someone's psychic prediction came true! Any more progress toward making a decision?
