Additional info & updates

Fee waiver @ Columbia, and a few I'm not applying to.

E-mail from BYU on 02/16/06.

Regular sized envelope on 02/24/06 from Vanderbilt with letter dated 02/21/06. Letter contained a few papers with relevant info. On 02/27/06 I received an information manual.

Regular sized envelope on 02/28/06 from Chicago saying thanks but no thanks dated 02/23/06.

I had gotten over a lot of the anxiety of waiting until answers started coming in. Now I'm anxious again.

Spoke with UVa admissions director on 03/14. He said that they had pretty much sent out all their acceptances for the year. He said that anyone that hasn't heard yet will probably be rejected or waitlisted. Too bad for me; they were my #2 after Chicago, and my wife's #1.

03/23/06 - Waitlist e-mail from UVa.

Exactly four weeks between hearing from Chicago and Virginia. Two schools left.

03-25-06 - Received waitlist letter from Columbia dated March 22. A little bit of a surprise - I thoroughly expected a rejection. I suppose I'll have to leave it as an option. (Although chances of getting off the waitlist are undoubtedly slim)

03-25-06 - Status Checker on Cornell went to complete. No link to admitted students site or e-mail = bad sign.

Update on Cornell: Received letter on 3-27 that was dated on 3-23 saying they are placing my name on their reserve list. It looks like that is sort of a pre-waitlist. They say the official waitlist will be created in mid to late May when they review the files of all the reserve applicants.

Waitlisted at 3 out of 6 schools.

Letter from Columbia on June 7th dumping me from waitlist.
Letter from Cornell on June 26th dumping me from theirs.

Hey, we have a lot in common. Anyway, Yeah, I think I'll get on the waitlists and reserve a seat at Cornell until I know for sure. I don't think I'm going to the "Y". You?

Vanderbilt is an amazing school...beautiful building...you should go there and withdraw from BYU to open up a spot for me :)

Hey, Congrats on your acceptances. I too got the letter from Cornell today. I was wondering if you could give me your take on this "reserve" thing. Do you think we will be automatically put on the waitlist, or do you think that only some of the reserve people will be carried on into the summer? Just curious. Good luck with your waitlists too. :)

Any chance you'll be at Vandy?

They're developing quite the Utah connection out there, and my wife and I really enjoyed our time at the school and in Nashville. Drop me an e-mail if you've got any questions.

Thanks for the tips

I suppose some of the schools I've applied to are long shots, but hey its worth a try. Thanks for giving me the heads up on what to expect though. It's good to see what happened in previous years.

thanks!

BYU has offered me money and I'm seriously considering it right now. Is it as competitive as its reputation? what are the job prospects like after graduation? Any other relevant info on BYU? Maybe you could email me back if you don't mind.

I am in incoming student at BYU I hope that you will get this message sometime in the near future. I found a message board dedicated to BYU Law and I was hoping that you could share some info about the school/teachers/your experience. Thanks. http://dearcosmo.14.forumer.com/
