Additional info & updates

12/20/05 7:00 pm Dean Howland called to invite me to the U Minn. Twin Cities. She was very nice.

12/27/05 Minn. Scholarship offer $8,000/yr. renewable + $300 recruiting visit.

1/11/06 email from BYU. They say more stuff's in the mail.

1/19/06 email from Cornell, more stuff in mail.

1/23/06 small letters from Stanford and Harvard. I don't know what I expected.

2/2/06 small executive envelope from Columbia. I didn't want to go there anyway--I'm from Idaho, NYC doesn't sound like my style.

2/17/06 UVa email offering a spot on the non-resident waitlist.

3/1/06 three short paragraphs from the University of Chicago--no more room for 167's from the over-represented majority.

3/3/06 Michigan email offering a spot on their waitlist. I now have--out of nine schools--3 acceptances, 3 rejections, and three waits. No word from Duke.

Cornell has a status check on their admissions website.

not sure

I don't know what I'm into yet. I have thought a lot about health law--I have two sisters and a mom that are nurses so I've been hearing words like "sternocleidomastoid" since I was born.

Update this thing

You must have heard from more schools by now, and I'm anxious to see where you get in, especially UVa.

I know, I suck.

Nice job on the acceptances so far. I'm sure they are the first of many and that scholarship from U of M is money in the bank.

Thanks, you too!

You've got good options yet

Stanford SChmanford, huh? Word is they're stingy on the financial aid anyway. Cornell is seriously solid. I really liked them before I had an unexpected change of focus. I think Chicago should be your real focus...the kids there are way cool, and with your interest in judging it is the strongest name. I hope you get in there, and if you do, I hope you go. You like how I'm telling you what to do? Sorry.

Hey by the way

Thanks for you kinds words on the U Mich acceptance. As far as if its my first choice... honestly its probably not. The cost of Michigan (especially since its for both me and my wife, both are in) is very daunting. I think I'm a pretty strong candidate for one of the Gates Public Service Law scholarships at UW, and if I land that I think we will end up going there. Seattle is where we want to be long term, and the difference between an extra 200-300k in debt at Mich, vrs (with Gates and whatever my wife gets) well under 50k TOTAL at UW makes it hard to justify based solely on going from #27 to #8. Neither of us want to do BigLaw stuff anyway, so the added advantage of Michigan is potentially a waste. That being said.... it is a top ten school. We'll have to see what everything lokos like when we have all the numbers. Decision making with incomplete information is not a favorite of mine. Thx again!

Congrats to you as well

Props on your own acceptances, and best of luck with the schools you're still waiting to hear from. As for the strength of my application, well, it would seem to be up for debate :)

Congrats on the Cornell scholarship. I'm sure that makes you feel a bit more comfortable with the debt load.
