Hey, similar numbers and similar schools! Good luck to you!
UConn was the only school that need an additional letter from my undergrad school. I'm in the Honors Program here so I just went to the Honors Program Coordinator, he filled out and signed the form and I mailed it in.
thanks for your post - I'll be sure to keep track of your progress, too. It's good to know there are others out there who started this process early!
Hi! I actually got my American U acceptance via snail mail today. Good luck!!!!
Yeah, same numbers, guessing you weren't thrilled with a 158 either? And since you are from NY, just curious, why not Syracuse? It seems like a good safety for us so I applied-- but it was hard picking NY schools because I don't know much about them
What is your secret for an Illinois fee waiver? also, good luck, we have similar numbers. I'm impressed/jealous of how early you got everything in. :)
on Cincinnati! That's great - basically a top 50 school! That should bode well for other schools on your list, too.
on Buffalo!! I got the same scholarship offer - also not sure whether it's per year or over the course of 3 yrs! I'm so pumped about this offer - I never thought Buffalo would move to the top of my list, but it definitely just did.
That's awesome news! I emailed them too about the scholly and with some other questions about this other program I was accepted to so they want me to talk to someone on the phone, but they're only available between 12 - 3, which you know, is super helpful since I'm a teacher. So hopefully I'll be able to converse with someone to get some more info. on the school. This is definitely the front runner right now, it's going to take either a *very* good school, or a sweet offer somewhere else to take Buffalo off my list.
the Bronx. It's time to get some other posts on here so they're not all from me! Good luck with the rest of your schools, and unless I get in to Berkeley (ha!) I'll probably see you at UB in the fall!
P.S. sorry about the weird title of my last message - i accidentally typed in those letters/numbers you need to verify that you're not a spam robot. I see you're in the metro area too, we probably don't live very far from one another! Although I work in the Bronx I live in the 'burbs (without giving too much of my identity away on here, it starts with a W and ends in "estchester")
No, mostly because until this week it was really towards the bottom of my list. I'm going to hold off on visiting schools until I hear back from more. I signed up for the accepted students day weekend in March because it coincides with the city schools' spring break. I'd like to visit UB and other schools (if there are any others still in the running at that point) in Feb. at the latest, since some of the west coast schools I'm looking at have March seat deposit deadlines.
Hey, Congrats on St. John's! Great school, but I hear you on not wanting to stay in the metro-NYC area. Also, no specific amount from Hofstra yet, but I know I'm getting an "Honors Scholarship" - I checked on the website and the amount varies, so I'll let you know when I get the actual amount in the mail! It would really have to be one hell of an offer to get me in the door there, but hey, you never know. This cycle has been good to us so far!
Yeah, I feel the same way about the rejections - there's a reason I haven't heard from some of these schools yet and it's because I'm in the "no" pile. What I don't understand is why they don't send out the rejections earlier...it's sort of cruel. Anyway Happy Holidays and hopefully you'll get more acceptances before the New Year!
Hey, I got $30k/yr at Hofstra. Very generous, but I think I would go to Suffolk over Hofstra...I'm not sure. Anyway, hope your acceptances keep coming!
Congrats on Drexel! I'm a little worried I might not get in. . .I applied in September and according to someone in the admissions office my file just went into committee today. Hmmm. Anyways, congrats again on all of your acceptances - you already have so many options!
Haha, very true. I actually might try to avoid the phone call to avoid that awkwardness. No, there really isn't a chance I'd go there, but I will probably have unreasonable concerns about this process until everything is over! Actually that brings up a question I have - are you going to withdraw from any schools before you decide where you're going? I'm not sure what to do, I feel bad taking a spot away from someone who really wants to go there, but I also kind of want to wait to withdraw until I've finally decided where to go.
Congrats..looks like your cycle is going well thus far. Seems as though we applied to several similar schools..I'll keep track of your progress
good luck..im from nyc and im applying next yr... hope you get accepted into everything
Hey - how come the early withdrawal from American? It's a pain to be on a wait list, but I visited AU Law last year and sorta fell in love, so I'm going to wait it out. Good luck with the rest of your apps! Is UB still your top contender at this point?
I'm not sure...UB is still up there, and I'm grappling w/the same issue - best school v. cost. I love american but I'm not prepared to sit around and wait for them. If I get in to berkeley then ill go, debt and all (long shot but didn't expect to make it this far w/them), otherwise its buffalo is still my best option of the schools I've already heard from.
About $32k for out of state, and about $18k for in-state. Not sure about how easy it is to get in-state tuition after 1st year. I get the impression that GMU is AU's conservative counterpart, so I would prefer to go to AU if I make it off the waitlist, but it's still a good option. I'll probably go visit, but now I can't decide which school I should visit in February - GMU or UB! Sort of wish I applied to way fewer schools...this is going to be a tough decision.
Hey, it looks like your cycle is going well. Mine just started, but its looking alright. Here's hoping for some acceptances to the big midwest schools!
Sorry to hear about UW. Do you know if your status checker changed before you got the e-mail? I'm not exactly expecting an acceptance from them, just wondering if the e-mail came out of nowhere, or if they let you know they had rendered a decision first.
Um, that's horrible! Was it personalized (like, we hate you and won't accept you because you suck for all these reasons...) or was it a general form letter? Who makes a *mean* form letter? Damn, now I'm scared. And that's *awesome* to hear that you're not worried about law school anymore. I'm getting there...getting some $ from Seattle was really great for me, because now it gives me a middle of the road option - less expensive than American or GMU, more expensive than Buffalo but slightly higher ranked and in a more interesting location (at least for me). I probably won't be making my final decision until April 14th lol. So have you pretty much decided on UB?
well, that still sucks. i've heard some schools have ridiculously nice rejection letters, i.e. Berkeley, but then there are other that are just obnoxious, i.e. UW. Anyway, I think you still have a good shot at UConn, although it would be pricey for a non-resident esp. considering your other options. It must be nice to have it narrowed down to 2! At least I feel better that you're also considering schools somewhat far apart. My top 3 at the moment are UB, Seattle, and George Mason (most b/c it's top 50, i haven't visited yet) - I feel like I'm all over the place. Anyway, looking forward to April/May when this process is finally over! Good luck with everything else. Have you officially been accepted to MSU yet?
Yeah, it feels weird to possibly go so far away, but unfortunately UB wouldn't be the best choice in terms of location. Ill still visit to give it my full consideration, but it wouldn't be ideal location wise. I'm just really impressed with Seattles communication, and they have great public intererst programs. Plus, why not try living somewhere new? If I go to Seattle my boyfriend will probs go to U Washington for grad school.
So, because UB is still an option, I just applied for on-campus housing (the idea of living really close to the law school given the weather up there is appealing). It was only a $25 app fee, so I figured why not - in case UB wins out in the end. Man, I really wish UB was in a better location...it's *such* a great option in terms of cost, but really wouldn't give my boyfriend any options for grad school (closest would be Cornell or Rochester, both would mean more long distance). Ugh. This process seriously sucks. Can't wait until April.
hahah - i had the same reaction when I joined the UB facebook group, too. I was like alright woo-hoo, what up 14 fellow potential classmates? And yeah, don't get me wrong, not complaining that i'm in a good relationship, but you're totally spot on with it being more difficult to make the decision. UB definitely would be best in terms of cost, at the same time though, I've been wanting to get out of NY state for a while (although at some point I'm not even sure how much I consider Buffalo a part of NY State or Canada?) Anyways, let the tedious process continue.
oops, I forgot I quit the UB Law facebook group, that was at the height of my love affair with Seattle. I don't want to re-join because the first time I did I got a million facebook messages asking me if I was going to UB Law then I had to explain this process to everyone.
Nice, I got some law school related stuff done today, too (all city schools closed today!), but mostly fin. aid related stuff. I followed suit and tried to be a little more incognito in my profile, it seems like many users are doing that at the moment. I'm a follower, what can I say. Anyway, yeah, don't feel bad that no one messaged you, I meant my friends on facebook, not anyone in the UB group. I don't know, though, I just cleaned all the snow off car and UB is looking way less appealing. No mail today in my town because the local roads were bad - these last few schools are killing me. Congrats on being almost done!
congrats on being so close to making a decision! sorry you didn't get full tuition at MSU, but honestly, UB is arguably a much "better" school, especially if you want to practice in NY. Anyway, I'm eager to see where you end up! I feel like I'm almost ready to make a decision, too...but I really can't until I visit Seattle, which unfortunately won't be until the end of March/early April.
I know! I'm freaking out a little bit. Apparently they barely go into their WL, though. One year it was 12, the most it's ever been is 40 (got this info from a published interview with the Dean of UC). Anyway, they actually rank applicants on the WL when they evaluate your application. You can't find out your actual ranking, but they'll tell me my "quartile" ranking on May 1st, so I'll have a better idea about where I stand on the WL. If I'm in a decent quartile then I'll hold out hope. The good news is Seattle isn't *that* far from Berkeley...it wouldn't be a totally inconvenient move if I get in later in the summer. Ugh. This is awesome but totally throws me off.
Hey, long time no talk! Have you visited UB yet? I'm visiting April 5th-6th because I have off from work. Right now it's between UB and Seattle. I feel so schizophrenic, because both have very different appeals and pros/cons. I was all about Seattle, but my Dad just met this alumni who is partner at a firm in Buffalo who raved about it, so beyond being a good connection, it got me interested in the school again. Plus, just not sure that a cooler city and only 12 spots higher in the rankings makes Seattle worth $55,000 grand more than Buffalo (UB would be about $30k/all 3 yrs, SU would be about $85k/all 3 yrs). Anyway, just wondering if you visited and how you liked it. I see you're visiting MSU, so I assume you haven't put a seat deposit down anywhere yet? So glad this process is winding down.
Cool - yeah, I want to sit in on a class and meet some other students, just get a feel for the school so I can make an informed decision.
Hey, just sendin some MSU love.
Congrats on the full ride to MSU! I got the same offer and couldn't turn it down. I got in at some great schools, but honestly MSU impressed me more than all of the others. Good luck to you!
see you in the fall! MSU is the best!!! can't wait!
the 158 crushed my dreams too. i retook it in sept but know i didn't do any better. good luck with your cycle! i hope everything works out for you.
