Additional info & updates

-- Sent an app to GMU and Alabama just for kicks, but you never know...

-- Scholarships are going to have to be substantial enough in order for this dream to become reality.

*************************************************

2/6/06 - Regent offered me a $5000/Year scholarship. You have to be kidding me.

2/27/06 - WT*? Waitlisted by Buffalo??

3/01/06 - Rejected by GMU. No surprise there.

3/2/06 - Regent upped their scholarship offer. Wow!

3/17/06 - In at Touro/$10,500 Scholarship. Thanks guys!

3/29/06 - Placed in standby mode at UIdaho. I guess that means waitlisted. I withdrew my app anyway, as I never seriously considered them.

4/1/06 - Waitlisted at Hofstra. I must be setting records somewhere for getting all these waitlists. I withdrew my app anyway, since they dropped to Tier 3 this year. Ha ha!! :)

4/8/06 - Rejected at Alabama. Must have cringed upon seeing I was from New York.

4/8/06 - It's now down to Regent and Buffalo, and if I hear nothing from Buffalo by mid-May, looks like Regent's the winner, presuming one more scholarship I applied for comes through.

I did it for the chicks. Who knew the Bible belt could boast so many smoking hot babes? :-)

Yep...

And someone's gotta free these poor repressed women. Might as well be me. BTW, ironically enough I just got an acceptance notice from them today. Poor bastards, if only they knew what they have just wrought.....

What, me worry?

I'll be good. O:-)

Free Vacation!
Wednesday, December 28 2005 at 07:00 PM

They offered me a free two night stay (meals included). Wild. I think I'll go, even if it meant nothing more than checking out Virginia Beach and the ...uh...scenery.

Aight..

It's too premature to promise anything, but we'll see. :)

One of my co-workers did it: he sang on the choir at his church. That was good enough for me. :-D

Yep...

Seriously.

Money

What was Regent's updated amount? I am waiting to hear from about a few scholarships there as well.

Scholarship

They offered $2000 more.

Regent

What scholarship(s) did they give you?

Scholarship
Wednesday, December 28 2005 at 07:00 PM

It was a general scholarship (I think it was called the merit or Academic Scholarship). It's the most common one for incoming students (other scholarships were pretty specific and allotted only to an particular demographic of students)

How were you informed of admission? Letter, email, etc.

RE:

magadog: that demographic being the ones whose LSAT scores were good enough for Harvard. dalmatia: I got an email notice first, then an official acceptance letter a few days later. I haven't made up my mind whether I'll be visiting the campus or not though.

The packet I got today had no scholarship info in it. It contained letters from the director of admissions (official acceptance letter), Tom Foley, the finaid guy (general letter about finaid and genisys), professor Bradley P. Jacob, and other Regent related stuff like a housing packet, suggested reading list. Don't worry, as soon as I found out my finaid award amount I'll post it on here. I'm very curious about it too! :) Thank for for the well wishes regarding SLU. I wish they could have let me just drive over and get the letter. I mean, its only 20 mins away!

Hi

Hi Valiant- Wow, doesn't this predicament stink?!?! We are totally in the same boat. Yes, I am sticking it out with Tech and still feel confident I will get in. I had a very positive conversation with a professor on the adcomm about 3 weeks ago, and he said it was highly probable I will get in. I just wish they would let me know soon! Regent was sort of a fall back school for me, but I don't think I will end up there. Even if I don't get accepted to Tech this year, I think I will just take a year off and reapply. As much as I would hate that, I just don't think I can pull Regent off financially. Also, I went to a private Christian college, and I was hoping to go to a public law school. I really hope we both get into our number 1's!

Plan
Sunday, March 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

Well, I am going to wait it out as long as I can with SLU. We won't move until August or Late July. I think Capital is my second choice right now. Its close to my wife's family and I'm applying for another scholarship there. I was disappointed about the InterVarsity scholarship. It was supposed to be for 22k/year. So that turned me off from Regent a lot. Plus they haven't gotten back to me about the other Law school scholarships or Endowed scholarships that I applied for. Oh well.

IV, ect.
Sunday, March 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

When I first contacted Regent, even after the priority date, they said they would fully consider me for all finaid opportunities. I emailed them and sent them my official transcript for the IVCF scholarship. They said "other factors would be considered" since I didn't have a 3.2, but a 3.1. They also said that it was 158160 LSAT & 3.2 UGPA = $16,000 to $22,000 Scholarship. When Tom Foley emailed me the first time he said I would most likely get 22k. So it upset me that they even mentioned getting 22k and then I got 15k. Oh well, they did say they wanted to give this to more than one person this year. The IV scholarship had a deadline of April 1st. It wasn't apart of the regular Regent Law FinAid application. It had a seperate application, essay, and required IV staff recommendation letter. Regent is a good school all in all and I would be happy to go there. I just don't think its going to happen at this time. Maybe I will do a visiting semester or go with the study abroad program for a summer semester. I wish I could give you my IVCF scholarship as I know how expensive school is. Talking with my medical school sister, I've realized that the finaid we get for law school is ncie, but its not a big deal if we have to take loans for every penny because we will be making actual money compared to our small salaries at the time being. It just seems like a ton of money when its only a down payment on a nice house.

Sure
Wednesday, December 28 2005 at 07:00 PM

As long as I can forget about ever owning a house, it won't be a big deal. :-D

Haha
Sunday, March 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

I understand, really I do. My sister always reminds me this is one of the only times in our lives when they will be throwing money at us.

Well...
Wednesday, October 26 2005 at 08:00 PM

I called and talked to them and explained my situation. I was just honest, and it worked out for the best. I wasn't expecting that much at all, so it was a nice surprise. I also went to a very difficult school that they heavily recruit from, so I think that helped as well. Quick question--after reading some of your posts, do you really want to go to Regent? You don't sound like a typical Regent student. What made you apply there? Also, did you visit? Maybe you didn't get as much money because they read this page??? Just a thought! :-)

Thanks

Thanks magadog, I appreciate that. :-)

Good luck man! I hope we both hear back from Buffalo with good news. Everyday I am patiently waiting by my phone, e-mail, or mailbox. If they decide to let us in, I think we'll hear back in June, after they know who is taking their first acceptance offers. Keep me informedif things work out, the first beer is on me!
