Additional info & updates

I got into law school three times. Scholarship is per year.

01/25/08-In at DePaul via snail mail. Large white envelope.

01/26/08-In at Quinnipiac via e-mail/a regular sized envelope.

01/29/08-Rejected at BC via a regular envelope with a single sheet of paper. Not suprising.

02/01/08-Waitlisted at Loyola via snail mail, came in a regular envelope. A little suprised about this one.

02/12/08-Rejected at GW via snail mail. Regular sized envelope.

02/13/08-Accepted at St. John's via a phone call from the Assistant Dean. I was told that an informational packet will arrive shortly. Hopefully some scholarship info will be enclosed? We'll see I guess.

02/15/08-Rejected at Fordham via status checker. Again, not suprising.

02/22/08-Waitlisted at American via snail mail. small, white envelope. I was hoping to get in because my index is equal to or greater than many admitees, but I guess their GPAs are all lower and their LSAT scores higher. That must be what got me. Good luck to everyone with scores in the high 150's.

03/10/08-I called Northeastern today to see what was taking so long. Apparently they've decided to hold my application and compare it to others yet to come in. So no decision will be made until a second review. blah. Hoping to have this cycle over soon.

03/24/08-Waitlisted at Ohio State via white, regular sized envelope. Took them awhile, but it's better than a flat out rejection I guess. And, as much as I don't want to be in Ohio, it's by far the best school that I still have an opportunity to attend.

04/07/08-Waitlisted at Northeastern and withdrawn. I'd rather be in NY than Boston and Northeastern is ranked the same as St. John's. So it's not appealing. I originally meant to withdraw from Loyola, but never got around to it. I might stay on now just in case I get in as the new US News poll shows that St. John's has fallen well below Loyola. I'm glad the cycle is over, excluding the possibility that I would get into a waitlisted school. Disapointed in the outcome, but that's life. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear stuff.

04/09/08-I had an interview at Quinnipiac this weekend for a full ride scholarship. I got it, plus a $1,500/year financial stipend, a research opportunity with a faculty member and more. It's not a bad deal. Quinnipiac isn't the best school out there, but free education seems pretty nice. If anyone out there has any opinions on what I should do--St. John's or Quinnipiac, or hold out for another school I've been waitlisted at, I'd appreciate it.

04/16/08-I chose Quinnipiac. The scholarship was too good to turn down. Good luck to everyone in 1L.

you know, i think just the combination of such a low lsat/gpa for some of the schools that i applied to is what got me. hopefully it will work out better for you, cuz your gpa is higher. i was at new college. you?

Sure man, I'd love to help get your apps preferential treatment. Shoot me your e-mail and I'll send you my "super secret" information. I'd rather not let everyone in on my tactics.

Whadup Nanuk, which school would be your first choice?

I think your selling urself a lil short Dru. You havnt heard back from anyone yet, and you are strong both statistially and soft factor wise, in my opinion. Not too many people can say they interned for a senator AND studied at Oxford. Dont get down b/c of the waiting game Hammy and I were kickin around the idea of how cool it would be if somehow we all ended up in DC. That would be sweet

Congrats bro!

I feel the American pain going on here. I'm thinking the same is bound to happen with NEU too!

Yo, I live on College Park, what about you. And yes, we need a W against XU pretty badly. Good luck with your cycle.

St john's etc
Sunday, October 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm not so sure about St.John's. I know it has a pretty decent name and from what I've seen the facilities look awesome, but I don't know if I'd want to be in a market that is as flooded as NY unless I was at like Fordham or something. If there was $$ it'd probably change my mind no doubt. Its looking more and more like I'll be going to Case next year. I'm going to check out Loyola sometime over springbreak. Whats your #1 choice?

right
Sunday, October 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

You're totally right about Loyola. I was going to say that about the Chicago market but I thought that was one of your top choices. As far as Quinn goes I'd consider it if I had a full ride offer. How did you get the interview/scholly opportunity?

Quinn $$

I know Qunnapiac is throwin the kitchen sink at yah...but I think St. John's is the way to go. I know rankings arent everything, but the major factor in the rankings is peer assesment aka what do other people (employers and other law schools) think of the school. That $$$ is nice now, but you can prolly make that back and them some by going to a more prestigious law school I think the long term of St. Johns outweighs the short term benifets of Quinn. But that also depends on what you want to do too anyway, good luck wit ur choice Dru, wherever you end up youll do great

NEU?

What the hell was Northeastern\'s deal? Your GPA and LSAT score make you almost overqualified for the school!

Hey

Hey, I just ran across your profile when I was seeing what standards Quinnipiac set for incoming 1Ls this year. I am actually quite a bit like you (3.85 ugpa, phi beta kappa, summa cum laude , 158 LSAT) and was also offered a large scholarship to QU. I just finished my 1L there and am going to be starting my 2L/1st year MBA in the fall. If you have any questions about the school, professors, etc. that I could help you with, feel free to contact me.
