Extra Curricular Information

Now that my cycle is over, I'll put some stuff back in here...

Published in law review.

I have been active in research, presenting at several philosophy conferences across the country and attending some law ones related to my field of interest (thanks to the generous funding of my u-grad).

I have worked between 25 and 30 hours per week, mostly for The Princeton Review, teaching SAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE since I was 18 (3.5 years ago).

I have won numerous university awards for research and scholastic achievement.

I am a voting member of the university's tenure and promotion committee, helping to decide which professors receive tenure/promotion and which do not.

I have held 2 officer positions in my fraternity.

I have played trumpet at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

I really like Ancient Greek.

There's more, but that gives a reasonable glimpse.

I'm pretty pumped.

Stanford!

Dude, major props to you for your early stanford acceptance. You're going to sweep the floor this season and this is a sign of things to come. Not a bad start, Bass, not a bad start at all!

Congrats!
Monday, November 28 2005 at 07:00 PM

Wow, I'm jealous, haha. But I'm a Phil major, too. I'm going to take your news as promising. Best of luck through the rest of this process and Congrats again!

Thanks

Thanks for the congrats. The LR article was very fortunate. I sent it out to LOTS of places, and somebody bit. Now that same journal wants me to submit an article for a special issue, but I have to finish the manuscript ASAP.

Dean Stock!!!
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

Dean Stock: I had no idea you were an LSN watcher! Great to hear from you. Why don't we talk about my PS over the phone? Give me a call.

wow
Monday, November 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

it seems H made a big mistake not autoadmiting, congrats on yale!!

Vee- Thanks, and congrats to you, Ms. Auto-Admit Everywhere. Yea, I should be at Admit weekend. I am from the area originally. Badmammajamma- No follow up, but obviously you weren't dreaming. Megan (?) told me not to expect anything in the mail until after the new year. She said they were focusing on getting the phone calls done, and they will mail out some stuff when they return after the holidays. No worries, and congrats.

i don't believe i congratulated you properly on LSD, so (belatedly) CONGRATS! now the toby call doesn't seem like such a big deal...

Stanford
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

Stanford is amazing. There is so much to love about it. It's just on the wrong coast. I'm from CT, and I'd like to stay relatively close.

LSD
Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

bass, why'd you disappear from LSD?? who's gonna keep empathizing with me re: no toby call? (unless of course you've gotten it already)

Matt and the W
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

No prob on the w's. I don't see any value holding onto seats I am certain not to use. I am going to end up at Yale, Harvard (if I get in), or NYU most likely.

re: LSD
Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

haha, probably the smart thing to do with LSD. i'm not that disciplined with things like this, snood, etc. stevejd's hold was indeed scary, just trying not to think too much about it in the meantime. oh, and the ranking refers to the chiashu percentage...didn't you read the note i put under additional info??

re: chiashu
Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

ahh ok, sorry...looks like im the dense one. oh and toby told me to tell you this... I just read your file and I want to ask a few questions about some things in your application so I can make a stronger case for you with the admissions committee. I'll give you a call sometime in the next day or so at the phone number that is in your file. Please let me know by posting here if you'd rather I call you at a different number, or if you are going to be hard to reach at certain times (and please include a time zone). Note: I'm not calling because there are any gaps in or problems with your application. I look forward to talking with you!

in shock

about your deferral! As disappointing as my deferral was, it was nowhere near as surprising as yours. Congrats on Yale... now THAT is an achievement :)

Thanks, but I have really good reasons to want to go to Harvard.

Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

sorry again about your deferral...i really hope though that all the LSD speculation proves true about holds not being as "final" as they were last year.

pls email back

1st, congrats on ur acceptance! Second, please explain what LSD is and also how a person like Toby Stock knows who you are based on a vague LS numbers profile. thanks so much Sara

Harvard
Sunday, January 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey, I see from some of your posts that you are really enthusiastic about Harvard. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to hear your reasons.

Harvard and Berkman
Friday, November 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

Hey Bass I read your post about wanted to get involved with the Berkman Center. That's totally my thing as well, I just went for a visit and my expectations were even more blown away than I thought possible. Although it's clearly not optimal for you, at least Stanford has Lessig and the EFF, and wherever you go I have no doubt you'll land on your feet. But here's hoping you get in, and if we both go we can be cyberlaw buddies! :)

re: Yale
Friday, November 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

I pretty much summed it up on my own profile, but the short of it is I'm not a fan of New Haven (especially compared to Boston or NY), I've heard that people are more focused on academics/theory stuff whereas at other schools students are out doing stuff their 1L year, and I'm only beginning to tentatively consider academics and clerkships and such and therefore Yale's particular strengths in these areas aren't really a draw. It does kind of seem like a good fit for you tho, (from what I can guess on the site) so I hope that things work out for you as best as they can, but I definitely feel sure that someone as motivated and driven as you is going to do very well anywhere, especially Yale.

congrats congrats
Friday, November 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

good luck on the interview with toby, i find it highly implausible you won't get in. keep me posted :)

cheers
Monday, November 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

hey congrats on the call, i actually see vagueness and disinterest as a good sign. at least for myself and several other admits disinterest seemed to imply a decision had already been made, the call was just a formality. anyway, good luck - i know the waiting is hard. p.s. if you're curious enough, go to the h website and search the directory for your name (first letter of first name next to full last name), as for me they created my e-mail account almost a week before they let me know i was in

2nd thought
Monday, November 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

hmm, it seems the e-mail may be created, but admits are not yet entered into the directory, at least not the one i'm looking at. anyway dont despair, i have a good feeling youll be in soon

EB and reuty
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

EB - people are mean, but they aren't very good at it. I'm pretty easy going. Here's hoping for Harvard. Reuty - I don't understand it either. I did my best, and it's in TStock's hands now.

not too shabby
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

;0) some very nice acceptances there mate!!

...
Wednesday, January 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

174 and 3.99 with yale and stanford acceptances to boot...i would bet anything that the people saying mean things are just envious of the position in which you are. i know that sounds childishly simplistic, but i would probably have an urge to say mean things too if i wouldnt be perfectly content at the schools to which ive been accepted. good luck with the decision.

wish I could
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

If Yale were within an hour of Boston, I'd be there. But my SO will be at Tufts. I am off to Cambridge next year.

great job
Wednesday, January 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

great job on harvard.. i love u bass

Congrats!!
Friday, September 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am so happy for you! And for you and your GF...really, it feels like your victory is almost my own. Enjoy Cambridge, and great news that someone will be getting off of the Yale waitlist. Best of luck, Brooklyn

Thanks
Monday, September 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for all the well-wishing! My gf and I are thrilled. I changed the status. In my excitement, I forgot about the def/A option. As for the Furman, I got a cryptic email from NYU financial aid saying I was supposed to be invited for an interview for I scholarship I applied for, but I never turned in the proper fin-aid forms. Since I only applied for one such scholarship (Furman), I knew it was that.

congrats
Monday, November 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

hey man, i know it was a long time in waiting, but congrats on H - really, i only wonder why it took so long

My goodness!
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM
