Just wanted to say thanks for the kind words. Yea, I must admit that I wish I were applying to schools on your list, but it would be a waste of $. I think you're a lock at your schools. Best of luck man!

G-town/Yale
Friday, September 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

How'd you find out you're complete at Gtown and Yale? Also, what's the deal with online status check thing Georgetown offers? Thanks. P.S. I am so excited for the big fat envelopes to start rolling in to you! I predict a clean sweep.

Good luck!!

Much success in the application process!

Re: The next Alcibiades?

Lol, while I am flattered at the thought of having a "next," I think I should point out that Mobell didn't do too poorly herself ;) Regardless, best of luck, and hopefully we'll see you at YLS next year.

Chicago
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

I think Chicago is a great school. I'm not really sending applications off to schools that I didn't get a fee waiver from except HYS.

Hey Galt :)
Wednesday, August 24 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations on your GULC admit! I'm sure it's the first of many acceptance letters that will be coming your way. We'll be in AA by next fall with all the celebrating ;)

Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Mr. Galt, Even if I do get a few more acceptances, I'm considering not going back to the board - I think it was driving me insane! However, my boredom and obsession with it may eventually win out. Only time will tell..

Back at ya
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! It has been kind of stressful, but it'll all work out. Well, good luck to you on the rest of your apps! I bet you're going to hear from Michigan soon. They like ECs and you applied way early. I only hope my residency can get me in the door there.

Chicago, NU, and Cornell

Stanford
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats again man. I just went complete at Stanford -- I hope the turn-around time is just as quick. Less than a week right? That is just straight up ridiculous. University of Chicago is telling it should take AT LEAST 8 WEEKS! Oh, the agony. -- Claudio

I recommend you delete those hateful comments. White or Black those stats are locks for top 4 schools. Anyway, Congrats on being exceptional, I only wish I had organized myself as early as you did so that I'd have a ton of great news as well.

fuck that guy
Wednesday, October 26 2005 at 08:00 PM

it doesn't matter if you were lilly white, you'd still be a lock for all these schools.

Congratulations
Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

Hope you join us out here at Stanford. I'm a southerner too (GA) and had concerns about coming West Coast. But it's been a nice change of pace and a terrific place to go to law school. E-mail me if you have questions.

#1 Choice?
Monday, June 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

I know you're still waiting on several applications to be complete and decided, but you're in at some ridiculously good schools (Stanford, Cal, Michigan, Georgetown). Are you just waiting to see if you get into Yale and/or Harvard? Is Stanford you're #1 choice at this particular moment? I was just curious. Your options are amazing. Good luck with the rest of the process.

Decisions
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

I'm basically waiting on all schools. I applied to each one for a particular reason and I want to give everyone a fair shake. I intend to make a short list in early january, withdrawing from the schools that don't make it...and then making my final decision by mid february. I won't hold up any spots after I've decided, you all have my word.

congrats,
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

way to go man. it looks like you have some difficult decisions ahead. i say go to the best school that gives you the total package: tuition, room, board, books, and some pocket change. or...just go to yale. if they give you anything, you are golden. good luck with the rest of your apps.

You? an AA admit?!
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Who the hell thinks that? I didn't read through your master lists of comments, but saw it posted under "12/5". What the hell? If you were white I guarantee you'd still get into almost all the same schools. Just ignore those people -- don't let them rain on your parade.

On Your Way...

Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

If someone won't even post with a real account, then why even read it? You obviously deserve your acceptancese AA or no AA. I am , of course, jealous of you. But it has nothing to do with your URM status. Keep it up!!! Good luck with the rest of the ivys!!!

Harvard over Yale
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Good call. My dad was a hiring partner at a Vault 100 (I believe, I don't really follow that) firm. Anyways, his solid advice to me was that Harvard grads are MUCH better suited for and do much better overall in private practice (though he noted Yale grads were "better read"). Even if you're not thinking of going into private practice, its something to consider. Email me sometime if you have any questions you'd like me to ask him re: other schools (I probably already have the answer anyways lol).

Hey Galt!
Wednesday, August 24 2005 at 08:00 PM

It's your old friend Annabel. Just had to stop by and offer my personal CONGRATS on your awesome success!!! I'm sooooo happy for you (when I'm not dying of envy). Just kidding :) We must get together and celebrate! See you soon,

Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the comment. Amazing cycle for you. wow if I had what you have, I don't know what I would do. WOW!! AMAZING, be greatful but mostly be proud. If I had the opportunity I would probibly go to Yale. Mostly for pragging right I guess. But still a tough choice a choice that I will never have the opportunity to make, but still am soo happy for you. !!

Great Job
Saturday, December 10 2005 at 07:00 PM

Just curious, and I realize that it doesn't matter b/c you are leaning towards HYS, but is their a reason why you applied to NYU and not Columbia? GL with your eventual decision

Gtown EA Day
Tuesday, November 01 2005 at 07:00 PM

Mr. Galt, I saw somewhere that you will be attending EA day. I know a bunch of LSDers (haha, that sounds bad) will be getting together, but since I haven't been on the board in months, I think I'd feel awkward. Hopefully I get to see you there, though. Email me if you'd like to meet up! ~Towlie

Congrats!

Why can't you post specifics now? You're in!

Steven and JG
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

Steven: Thanks for all the support and advice. You're a good dude, hit me up if you ever need anything. Especially when you start applying to law school. Until then, enjoy UGRAD. JG: I'm you're biggest fan. You're absolutely (and I mean this sincerely) one of my favorite people (and I don't even know you personally). You treat everyone with respect and you're genuine. But I'm not going to put up my accomplishments, lest they be compared to your acheivements at Arizona. You're just too good kid, you're too good. ;) Maybe we'll be classmates. that'll be awesome.

???
Friday, June 03 2005 at 08:00 PM

Did you really write those nice things on my profile? I think it was probably someone trolling for you, but if not, that was sweet. :) Do you think you're going to the Yale admit weekend?

P.S.
Friday, June 03 2005 at 08:00 PM

You should post stuff anyway! I'm so curious, damnit.

Thanks!
Wednesday, November 30 2005 at 07:00 PM

Awesome application cycle
Monday, December 05 2005 at 07:00 PM

John, well done. Congrats on the sweep. As for these trolls who continue to post anonymously, don't sweat them. Sour grapes. Alas, you'll probably be seeing some of them in law school, though. Best thing you can do to shut them down is to kick ass in law school as well (just as you have done during undergrad and on the LSAT). Take care. Enjoy 2006.

Congrats Again Man

Thanks for the kind words. I'm blushing. After attending Georgetown's admitted student's thing, I'm sold on the school. Now I just have to find some way to get about $15,000 in private loans with subpar credit and no co-signer. It's a task G'town is more than willing to help me out with. Given your amazing choices it's sad to say I probably won't be a future classmate of yours, but I wish you all the best. You deserve what you've earned and I hope you enjoy it!!!

I just noticed Jason took over your spot at the top on LSN. That must be the biggest disppointment of your entire admissions process. You can use those HYS acceptance letters to dry your tears. You need to get to work, maybe embellish your information a little bit to spur some interest, maybe go on an intense advertising campaign?

Congrats

Lol, ouch...such issues. Anyhoo, AND THEN THERE WERE 4!! Congrats JG (Admittedly I am a hater by nature but I'm willing to give props when they are due). BTW, I had a good friend in your position 2 years ago who went with Columbia. He has had a great experience there, is currently on LR (hmm...couldnt be bottom 10% and do that), has a summer position with a top 5 Vault firm and has a lot of good things to say about the BLSA community there. Good luck with your decision!

great job! I don't envy you your decision. There' graduating from law school with no debt other than living expenses from a school as amazing as Columbia. And then there's graduating with a HYS on your transcript. Pretty awesome options! (if you're okay answering, did you end up throwing in an application for Michigan's scholarship? or did you just not bother?)

Doesnt this all seem so trivialeveryone salivating over each others admissions. Do any of these people even know if they want to practice law? Its as if they think they cross some kind of finish line when they make it into a certain school. Some of these people scare me, theyre so intense.

First of all, this really isnt directed at you, which is weird cause im writing it on your wall, but whatever... Congrats at all the great schools and the really high scores. The GPA is proof alone that you worked your ass off. Anyway, I think its complete BS that people are complaining that you got in because you qualify as a URM. These are the same bastards that are using family connections to get into schools. I know I called my cousins and aunts to pull strings for me(didnt work at georgetown though... ) Its not like its your fault that standardized testing is racial biased. If it wasnt, you surely would have hit the high 170s without a problem with your strong work ethic. Im just pissed that they are trying to belittle your accomplishments... I hope you go on to great things after law school, and that these people have to come to you for a job. Also, Ill be working in DC and looking for employment, so keep me in mind when you make partner years before me :) quick question: did you use the phone, email, or letter to notify schools you were withdrawing your acceptance?

I agree. AA strictly based on race is troubling. However, I\\\'m not sure if I can be firmly againts \\\"AA\\\". I think when you just assert \\\"AA\\\", you fail to mention that there are people put there that deserve preferences (those who are poor). Now, I think you are right to suggest that it should not be based on race. For instance, imagine if a black student was presented with the same amount of educational resources (a sufficient amount which put him at an advantage) as a white or asian student, but just didn\\\'t work as hard. Then it would definitely seem unfair to give preference to the black student, and deny the others. However, in the case of Mr. Galt, we are unaware of his socio-economic standings. In fact, we are unaware of many things, and I think to quickly bring race-based AA into the discussion is unfair on his behalf. Truth, I agree with you on some points. You just have to be a bit more thorough in your explanations. Take care,

There are a host of factors that determine whether a student will do well. The LSAT score isn't 100 percent accurate in predictive validity. And, I think we all know that. There is probably much more to Mr. Galt than what we see, so any assumption that he was admitted on race would be problematic. Again, the problem that truth has it with race-based AA, where race is the sole factor. But, I suggest that he is committing a fallacy, in arguing against a position that isn't held by many. Most people, scholars and students, disagree with given someone preference based solely on race. I think this is the point that the defender is making. AA isn't just some policy that gives preference to any type of minority applicants. These are applicants that work REALLY hard to get where they are. So, to degrade their hardwork, I think, is unfair and idiotic. Take care

Sorry for contradicting myself. But, the implication that we should downgrade the achievments of whites was never made. Simply because a white student doesn't get in (based on numbers) does not necessarily imply that: 1. An underqualified "minority" was selected over him/her and 2. that her/his achievements are being downplayed. Simple logic would suggest that there are many factors that could possibly play a role in deciding who gets admitted, and who gets rejected. You probably already know this, but an overwhelming amount of "white" applicants apply to law schools. Only about 8,000 blacks (that number might be too high) apply to law school. So, at a higher rate, white applicants are going to be rejected than blacks. Not because of race, but because of the numbers. However, there may be cases where some black students with lower numbers are admitted. But, I'm certain that it might be that way among whites. Every white student at Yale does not score above 170, so I think it is safe to suggest that some whites have below a 170. Meaning, that there scores are equal to Mr. Galt's score. Personally, I think you have become to reliant on this test. There is much more to a person than numbers. Also, you make it seem as if Mr. Galt's numbers weren't good enough. Again, this conversation is incredibly fruitless, and I think that you already have your opinions set. We are never going to get anywhere, if we come into a discussion with pre-conceived notions. Take care Mr. Trouble Maker, I hope that you continue your assault one LSN's account at a time. I'm not sure what your motivation is, but perhaps you will gain something from it. Good luck in life. Also, don't assume that all the blacks at your school benefited from AA, you might offend some people and be grossly in err. Goodbye for now

a little info
Tuesday, March 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

During undergrad I did a study on AA and it was noted that the minority group that has profitted the most from AA since its beginning has been white females. I only point this out to show that many people make racist and hurtful remarks that stem from their upbringing, close mindedness, and thier willingness to remain ignorant. No TOP law school is going to drive down their numbers to admit people simply because of their economic standing, race, or gender. These individuals are still in the school's range. In addition, I do remeber all of the law school applications I filled out mention that they look at the total student. You never know what else was in that person's file-and what the admissions committe was looking for. No one should use these boards to look at other people's numbers and say "I got better numbers then them, why didn't I get in?" because you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure out something that only the admissions teams knows. They saw something in the class they chose that they didn't see in you. There are a few schools that I didn't get accepted to and that people with lower numbers than mine did get accepted to. The immature thing for me to say is of course they got in because they are white or because they are a man. But really me not getting accepted is because of MY application. The scary thing about this entire discussion is that we, as future lawyers, are supposed to be the educated elite. The forward thinkers. However there are some out there brimming with racism and still believing that only they can obtain this privilage- that they are the superior race. Did you mention your dislike for black people in your public statement or are you waiting to present that part of yourself when you actually get into law school? I only hope that this racism has not become so deeply rooted in you that it can not be changed before you actually become a lawyer.

Wednesday, August 24 2005 at 08:00 PM

Am I missing something? Are you assuming that JG was given such generous awards based solely on his numbers? If so, what's your opinion re: my FinAid package? Hopefully you were just trying to demonstrate that there's still a possibility that JG could receive such generous awards even if he had rich parents. If so, watch your wording next time. On a side note, it's funny how Montauk has inspired so many fledgling admissions "experts". Montauk said it so it MUST be true! :)

Thank you

You are my steady and constant defender. I know that, no matter how rational the argument, it seems impossible for some to recognize my accomplishments for what they are. I suppose there will always be those who seek to undermine our achievements. At at end of the day, I will always be grateful for people like you. Thank you for always encouraging me, supporting me and challenging me to be better.
