Working as an engineer. The gray walls of my cubicle are constricting my air supply. There must be something more...

6-Mar-2006
Recv'd solicitations from WUSTL, UMNTC, UST. Full time seems better and better. WM has offered a scholarship.

14-Mar-2006
Cricket. Cricket. Cricket.

20-Mar-2006
St. Thomas has confirmed that they recv'd my app. Since UST and WUSTL are taking so long to process, I will most likely withdraw from those.

22-Mar-2006
St. Thomas acceptance and $$$'s, thick white env.
Discussion with UMNTC as to why I have no status yet - they later sent an email confirming complete application.

23-Mar-2006
Not a peep from WUSTL. I guess I'm studying in the tundra.

25-Mar-2006
Small thick white envelope from UMNTC. Very few $$$'s, and now the question of whether to attend a fully-funded T4 or get debt-ridden going to a T1. I'm just doing patent law locally, so I'm not sure it's worth the extra debt. Opinions (other than "withdraw and give me your slot")???

30-Mar-2006
E-mail acceptance from WUSTL, letter to follow.
I am going to withdraw from WM and UST to give someone else a shot.

1-Apr-2006
Headed to MN. No foolin'. I snail-mailed an acceptance letter, then went out to get the mail and recv'd the tuition deposit forms. Uhgggg! Have to mail those in too.

6-Apr-2006
Note to UMN admissions folks who lurk around Law School Numbers - I see a lot of UMN withdrawls and they had scholarship $$$'s. This must mean that there is more money in the kitty. Please send some to us loyal students.

24-Apr-2006
Still waiting for additional love from UMN due to my loyalty...I think this tendency has gotten me into trouble working as an engineer. Something about "never hold your hand out for deferred compensation."

18-May-2006
1200+ views. Of course, 1197 of them are from me viewing my own profile. If you're coming to Minnesota, give a shout.

29-Jul-2006
Did I mention how much I love the U, especially the admissions staff? (seriously)

Thanks everyone, see you all soon at orientation.

Question: how did MN notify you of complete status? I applied 2/22, and still haven't received ANYTHING from them...not even a "thanks for applying" email. Seems like a good sign for you...not so good for me ;o) Good luck!

UMNTC - complete?

I just used the report processed date on LSDAS. I also called the director of admissions to ask some questions, but this was prior to submitting the application. The interim director was very receptive and helpful. Assuming that the decision dates on LSN are real, it's looking like the review process is running about a month between complete and decision dates.

Congrats on your hefty scholarship! at WM! Did it come with your letter of admission or separately?

Thanks

I may just call them. I think they may have run out at this point, considering how recently I applied. Perhaps if you end up at the U, yours will be thrown back in the pool! I'm sure you'll get in. If no money at UMN, where do you think you'll go?

Minn - thanks for the feedback. I've chatted w/ the interim admissions director, staff and have visited the campus. No budging on the $$$'s, but at this point I'm strongly leaning there based on reputation and the fact that I already live there. If you don't mind divulging, where did you attend?

Give it time

WUSTL made me a scholarship offer a month after acceptance. Then again, seat deposits arecoming up..

Go to MN. The quality of a legal education is inversely related to the number of students playing solitaire in the class I visit while touring the campus. In my analysis MN is better than Notre Dame is better than William Mitchell is better than St. Thomas. This study is limited by the consideration of only those four school and the assumption that the students were not so well prepared for class that they were bored.

There are a couple TC firms that start 1st year associates at 125k (130 for IP at Dorsey). That is pretty high for MN. I doubt WM or ST students are going to be nailing those positions.

Admit Day
Friday, March 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

I went to the one last weekend. Nothing is scheduled Friday evening, you just talk to current students and a few faculty. They have information sessions and a mock class on Saturday. Also a student liaison will give you a tour of the premises. I tried unsuccessfully to locate a current student who had prepared for law school. It may be noteworthy that none of those who did not prepare were on Law Review. It was a good weekend but I would not recommend going Friday night unless you have so many questions you wont be able to have them all answered on Saturday.

yup.

i'll be coming to admit day. did WUSTL ever offer you money? i'd be very surprised if they didn't.

you're in-state
Wednesday, January 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

that's already better than most scholarships. that said, your numbers are so solid for UMN that i'd expect they'd STILL show you some love. but i'm not surprised they haven't.

I'm thinking about moving to the Roseville area. Now in Woodbury.

Thanks and congrats to you as well. I'm definitely not sad to be leaving the engineering world though. Are you considering IP?

I agree, I hate being railroaded to a conclusion. I think I'll go into health law.
