I AM SO DESPERATE. WHERE CAN I GO?

First Generation College Graduate

Okay now I just want to go somewhere
Chickened out on Feb LSAT after learning my choice schools will take June score for Fall admission. Needed more time to study.

But I am still struggling............. any advice?

5/11/2006 FAMU Big Envelope, turningme down initally but offered me an interview to their summer program L.E.A.P. I am so excited, it is mandatory that you interview so I am on my way to meet with the Asst. Dean Witherspoon on May 26.

It cost $1000.00 but well worth it if my interview goes well. I should recieve some notice about 1-2 weeks after the interview if I have been accepted. Once the program has been completed I am automatically guaranteed a seat in the Fall. God truly is good. There is no competition for the seats, but there is for the spots in the class.

The program sounds awesome, 6 weeks 4 nights a week from 6-9 and I can even work parti-time while I am there. Everybody please pray for me and wish me luck.

6/2/2006..............Okay Everybody, FAMU took me. I am so happy. I got the letter last week, Big Envelope asking me to interview for their summer LEAP program, I drove all night last Thursday to get there by Friday at noon, and Tuesday I got the phone call, yep they liked me......... So I am moving kids, dog and all to Orlando for the next three years. The program is not conditional, once you pass the LEAP Program you are automatically guaranteed a seat in the Fall.

From what I understand, the LEAP Program is a head start on first year classes. But only Six weeks long and only 3 assignments the entire time, they actually hone in on writing and reading skills. Good Luck to everyone else and thanks for all of the advice.

Hey, I think our numbers are similar. I had a low LSAT score and a pretty good GPA. It's crazy that they just go by the LSAT. How come you did not apply to Texas Southern?

I plan to apply to Texas Southern, just went to a CLEO luncheon ere in Atl, over the weekend. It was great, however I am leaning more towards Southern Univ. I am retesting in Oct, what about you?

You never know what might happen, but with our numbers, I don't presume much, but keep the faith a door WILL open, even if it is in Guam(LOL).

Stay Positive

We have similar numbers...LSAT 140 and GPA 2.5...I am also limited where I can apply...I live in NY and I am married with a baby...So Cooley and other schools are not an option...I am so frustrated and anxious...I only applied to one school knowing my chances were low...Touro! As of July 11, 2005 it was in committee....Outrageous LORs and WE...I guess I am hoping foir a miracle...Good Luck! Maybe we can be of support to each other...I am the first college graduate in my family...Yeah! I am very proud of that...Stay strong!

Thank you for those kind words, I am going to do just that, stay positive. I am determined to practie law so that I can help women who are indignet and in need of defense counsel that is not a public defender. I cannot steer away from my goals just because of the LSAT. What is even more disappointing is that I went back over my test and answered so many correct that it would have given me a 161. But I will continue to practice and this time take Powerscore. Good Luck to you and thank you for the support.

Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

I would love to go to Thomas Jefferson in Diego. I think that I will apply, I am a bit discouraged because of my low LSAT score. I just wish that schools did not count on it as much as they do. My EC's are good, and so is my GPA. I am studying alot more now than before, and I still feel that I need some real intervention. (Powerscore, Testmasters, etc.,) I cannot get pass the logic games. they really piss me off, does anyone out there have an easier strategy? Pleae share it if you do.

Just applied to Thomas Jefferson online. Now nothing else to do but wait and watch. Incidentally, has anyone ever heard of a person with a score as bad as mine getting into an ABA approved school? Please let me know.

I am not surprised
Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

Dinged by Florida Coastal. (07/28/2005) But I am not surprised, came in a thin white envelope 2 very short sentences, brief but to the point. Nonetheless, I will continue to study and then reapply after the Oct. test. Better luck next time!

December LSAT
Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am going to switch my test date to Dec. I just started a new job, too much pressure to study and work. Wish me luck! Some say that it is harder then Oct. Is that true?

How are things going??
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Are you going to reapply for next year?? I retook the LSAT in october. It still sucked. I got a monster of a school list. Let me know how things are going. Good luck this time around.

DEC TEST
Sunday, August 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Also don't pay too much attention to what people say about the dec test being harder. I took the October test and people said it was Harder than the June test, but it had a better grading scale to make up for it. So either way harder test = better grading scale and vis versa. Good luck though.

somthing in common

My "mother of 3" is actually 1 girl, 1 boy, and 1 on the way due in April. It's nice to see that I am not the only expectanat mother with the added stresss of law school apps. Good luck!

Ok, another thing in common
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Okay, I just read your EC and realized we have one more thing in common. I also work with AIDS patients. I am in the clinical research field and my main project is a multi-center international AIDS trial. I am routing for you to get a great score on the Feb LSAT. If you score high enough perhaps you will apply to Howard and come up this way.

Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am so nervous, Feb. test is coming up., I am so nervous. I cannot begin to tell you but I must do as Mariah says and "Shake it Off" because after all the show must go on. Plus I know my anxiety can make the difference between my passing and failing. Any advice out there I will gladly take it, please, please, please. I did buy the Powerscore Bible, but I still need tutoring.......... Thanks Higherlearning for your support. Anymore suggestions?

Get the logic games bible!! This is the section where you can expect the most improvement. I bought the LG Bible and was able to answer at least 2.5 LG questions with no problem. That left me plenty of time to stare and droll at the other 1.5. Buy it and maybe even the Arguments bible. It wasn't as helpful but if it adds a few points it is worth it. They are about $45 each, well worth the loot. I will say you have to be committed and really use them, study, do the exercises, practice practice practice. You'll be much more at ease on test day if you have done all you can do to prepare.

Those haters gave me a 3.0 cum gpa. That sucks. I am so mad about that. But anyway I will have to build on my June score and hopefully get an acceptable score. I am having a baby in about a month, I can sit on my buttocks all day and study while she naps........ if she naps. Stay tuned for the details.

Christylove, I just wanted to drop a few lines of encouragement your way. This is my second time around. So, I know exactly what you are going through. I too had a poor 1st score and gained 6 points on my second try. It may seem so impossible to improve, but it is. I am a prime example of that. Heck, you may do better than I did on your second try. I said that to say this. Don't give up. I could not take a course, but I studied at home using the LSAC's old tests. I admit, I didn't have much time to devote to it considering my responsibilities. However, I can only image what the increase would have been if I had the time. Practice and you'll see that you too can do it. Also, depsite the low scores I am among those who scored high and will be going to law school this Fall. As Kirk Franklin would say "Be encouraged BOO" Oh, best wishes with your new baby on the way.

hey
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

i just wanted to encourage you and let you know that there are people out here in real world who believe you can do it, even if we can't see you. why? because we have faith. when you sit for that test in june remember these words and believe that ALL things are possible for those who believe. if you need anything, let me know.

your head up. Everything is going to work out fine. I am applying next cycle because I am going into a M.Ed program at Texas Wes. then I will apply for law school for the 2007-2008 school year. I know what it is like to be first generation college graduate. Did you do a study course for the LSAT? My advice for test is to study the format and become familiar with the type of questions. Stay encouraged!!

paid off for Latinlord, and I'm sure it will for you too! We know you can do it especially since you seem determined to win. I hope all goes well...no, I know all will go well. Oh, and best wishes on the baby! May God bless you with a healthy baby and a good sleeper at that... :-)

Study Guides

you thought about retaking the LSAT? Did you take a prep course?

Everything
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

will work out fine. Did you want to go to law school in the fall of 2006 or 2007 because of the LSAT. If you decide to wait a year, just take your time and study and take the October or December LSAT. Do you have your Master's yet? If not, then while studying to take the LSAT again, a Master's would be a nice addition to your personal statement. However, "all things work to the good of them that are called according to His purpose." It is not a question of "if" you are going to law school, but when. Remember that everything happens in God's timing and not out, but the test comes when it is time for us to birth the fruit of patience. I believe that you will go to law school no doubt, but when. Just pray with me for God to reveal this to you. Also, read the book of Hebrews the 11th chapter and I Samuel 30 about David and his men coming to Ziglag. Remember that Ziglag mean temporary holding place. Read and study that so that you will have that Word to stand upon. Blessings and keep your head up because when we cannot see our way out, God is working it out! Keep your head up and continue walking in the continual blessings!! Blessings!! Feel free to email me at anytime.

test anxiety
Wednesday, March 01 2006 at 07:00 PM

don't be so nervous girl! i think it helps to NOT think of the test as the end-all and be-all of your chances to attend law school. If you treat it as though its not that important, you will not be as nervous, and will also get a better score. i've heard good things about the logic games bible/logic reasoning bible that you can get in bookstores. If you retake the test and get in the 140s you should be able to get into most of those schools next cycle! good luck with everything!!

Hello

I
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

will email you that scripture. However, remember if you put it in then God will pull it out. So practice, practice, practice. Study the format of the test and the type of questions that are asked. If needed, take a prep course. Personally, for any test I have taken, I have take a prep course. What study materials do you have? Powerscore is a very good prep course. Are you looking to take the test in June for this cycle or will you apply again next cycle? If you are applying next cycle, you can take the test at the end of September and use this time to take your time a study. Keep your head up and we will pray through this test. It is only a small obsticle that will be conquered. Stop stressing because everything is going to work out in your favor. Stay Blessed!!

UPDATE.......
Thursday, August 11 2005 at 08:00 PM

Okay everyone I had a beautiful baby girl on March 24, 2006. Chloie Elizabeth Greene. She does not sleep much but I am able to study some. I am very excited about law school, however I have not been able to get my score above 144. I need some serious help. I have the LGB and LRB; but I am simply lost, I need to figure out how to identify the questions and the games oh God the games.... need I say more? Any hints would be so appreciated. Thank you all for your kind words thus far.

Hi!!

I was looking for that particular scripture in the Book of Proverbs, but I could not find it. However, the book itself is the book of wisdom. You can read chapters 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 about wisdom.
