Additional info & updates

Baylor offered me admission to their Spring class, so I didn't know what to put for status except Def, Accepted. Basically it was a rejection, since I am only interested in starting this year.

Case Western never gave me a decision, so I just withdrew. I don't know what they were waiting for... unless I gave it to them.

The die is cast. After visiting Toledo, Akron, and Willamette, I will be attending Toledo in August. Their current students, faculty, and facilities are very impressive. Most of all there is an obvious passion for teaching and dedication to students there that outdistances the competition. I am really excited about moving there and getting started in August. Most people seem apoplectically negative about the Toledo area in general, but I like it. What many people describe as "boring" and "nothing to do" I call quiet, open, calm, and relaxing. The recreation center is freaking outstanding, and I can play basketball to my heart's content, so I will be good to go. I am fully aware how very difficult it will be for me to retain my scholarship, but that is just more inspiration for me to do my best. Well, those are really the last of my comments on this site I suppose. Good luck to all who brave the harsh waters of law school.

Scholarships

My scholarship amounts are reported as annual figures. I noticed some multiply by 3, while others list this way. Since only the first year is certain, I think it should be recorded appropriately.

Last LOR
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Finally, my last LOR has been sent! I had to remind him to do it. My applications were going complete, and I e-mailed several schools telling them to hold off their evaluation until the last LOR arrived. It is important because it's my only one from academe. What a relief!

Transcript Update
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Also sent for updated transcripts as soon as my autumn grades posted. Iowa specifically directed that I send them to LSDAS as soon as possible. I guess they want to see if I fell off a cliff. Unfortunately, my GPA didn't change, but at least I demonstrated some consistency.

Cooley Scholarship
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Cooley doesn't award specific amounts, rather I automatically qualify for 75% of tuition, which I estimate will be about $19,500 in the first year. Not that I will ever attend there, just wanted inquiring minds to know.

Dayton Scholarship
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Received information packet from Dayton today. President's Scholarship, $15,000 annually. Good deal! My fall transcript was posted on LSDAS today as well. Of course I am still anxiously awaiting other admission decisions along with everyone else.

Toledo Merit Scholarship
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Toledo came strong today with acceptance and a Merit Scholarship that pays all tuition, renewable for all 3 years! Woohoo! But the pressure is on, I must accept by January 25, 2008. I have some research and soul-searching to do... Come on, other schools, bring it on!

Dickinson
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Accepted to Penn State Dickinson with $10,000 scholarship. Small potatoes compared to Toledo, which is also of higher rank. Always good to be loved, though.

First Rejection
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Rejected at George Mason. Bummer! It was a long reach anyway.

DePaul
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Accepted at DePaul, but no mention of a scholarship.

Similar Numbers...
Thursday, October 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Seems that we have very similar numbers... And being that I'm an Ohio-an, it's interesting to see all of your Ohio acceptance letters coming in. Congratulations thus-far, espeically for Toledo! I wish you luck with the remainder of your apps :)

Indiana - Indianapolis
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Received an e-mail notifying me of acceptance to Indianapolis. No details and no word of scholarships, more info to come via mail. littlemissmeeba, thanks for the encouragement. Our numbers are practically identical! I was thinking of applying to Colorado too, but thought my chances were too slim. I'm really hoping for Iowa or UW, but both are a mighty stretch. Best of luck to you!

Congrats!

Congrats on the acceptances so far. We have quite similar number. What do you think about IUPUI and U of P? I'm interested in U of P, it seems like a cool place.

Iowa WL

what did your iowa WL say?

Akron Scholarship
Monday, December 24 2007 at 07:00 PM

Akron stepped-up to the plate with a full tuition scholarship yesterday. I eloquently replied that it wouldn't be enough considering the higher-ranked Toledo gave me one too. It will be interesting to see how that flies. I don't know what these other 5 schools are waiting for... why doesn't Texas just go ahead and reject me? I don't understand.

Case?
Thursday, October 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

STILL no word from Case? I thought for-sure you'd have an acceptance and scholly offer by now.

Not to worry, anon

The rankings don't scare me. I don't necessarily agree it is in decline, and at any rate I am not a BigLaw aspirant. My "better options" are all regional schools also, where I would acquire more debt and not necessarily a better education. For my public service and political goals, I think Toledo suits just fine. Of course, anon may be right, I may end up in the gutter along the Maumee River, but life is full of choices and I am comfortable with mine. I do appreciate the food for thought.

Good idea not to worry about ranking cha

I'm a current UT student who got bored studying for finals, so I thought I'd check out what was going on with UT on this site. The consensus is that career services changed their survey question on employment, causing a bit of confusion, and changing the 9-month employment number from 97% to 92%, which was sufficient to drop down. Basically, it's all a big game, so good idea not to pay too much attention. So yeah, congrats on the scholarship and see you on campus next year. And, enjoy your summer!

I appreciate the comments. I look forward to seeing you on campus in August as well. It amuses me that anyone would actually think a school's quality would vary with changes in the rather arbitrary US News rankings. It was very apparent from my visit that Toledo is dedicated to its law school and especially the students, and I am truly anxious to get started.
