Additional info & updates

Don't have a number one choice, although i would prefer a school in a big city. I also love warm weather, but I realize all the best schools are up north which sucks.

Lookin like Georgetown and Duke are my top choices right now, but I also really want to hear back from NYU.

1/12/07 - Got accepted to George Washington via phone call

1/25/07 - I'll be in Georgetown for an offical vist

1/26/07 - The Georgetown visit was great. The campus is new and nice, all the faculty and students were excited to be there and DC seems like a great place to be when it comes to law. GULC is currently my top choice of all the schools I've gotten accepted to so far, with Duke close behind.

2/1/07 - Put on reserve at Columbia. Not what I was hoping for.

2/17/07 - Got waitlisted by UCLA. Very surprising, I thought I would get in there.

3/1/07 - Scholarship from Georgetown, $10,000 a year. Not bad. Helps solidify my final decision.

3/5/07 - Rejected from Berkeley

3/24/07 - Returned from my visit to Duke. I was impressed with the faculty and the campus, but the surronding area was sub par. I'm pretty certain I will accept my Georgetown offer within the week. It would be nice if I could hear back from NYU, considering i applied there 5 months ago.

3/29/07 - Offered $4,000 a year from Florida, but its pretty late in the cycle to be informing people of this dont you think?

4/1 - It's official - I'm going to Georgetown!

4/15 - Thanks for the acceptance Texas, but you're a little late.

5/30 - Ditto to UVA

i'm honestly not a huge fan of UF right now.

Uf - good luck

Hey, if GWU let me in, I'm sure you'll get in there! You'll have options and good luck As a Michigan grad, I'm sad about the Big Ten in bowl games, but I'll never cry about Ohio State getting hammered like that!

Congrats on the Duke scholarship! Do you think it could sway you to pick it over higher ranked schools?

PR?

I see you got into GWU with me, good stuff! I wanted to know about the PR hiring process b/c I need to pay rent for the next six months or so. We're still waiting to hear back from a lot of the same places, but you'll get into quite a few. What kind of law do you want to do???

yeah it seems you got into georgetown too... think about what kind of law, but both of those are very good schools. You'd be fine either place.

Sunday, July 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

I think that my numbers got me in the conversation and a combination of tough major/substantive leadership/and really good volunteer and work experience pushed me over the edge. I think your numbers give you a very good shot at NYU and CLS and already having money at Duke is a fantastic sign. Good luck!

Man, I could've sworn I saw your name in the accepteds for UCLA, doesn't look good for me if you're getting a waitlist letter.

Duke v. Georgetown
Monday, October 23 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'm leaning heavily towards Duke. It's a bit better school than GULC, prestige and rankings-wise, it's much smaller, and it just seems much more engaged than GULC (the non-SBA students I spoke with at their admitted students reception seemed kind of over the law school experience). It's also a good deal cheaper, if you factor in housing costs. That said the georgetown early admitted students reception was amazing. I've never seen any event run that efficiently. I haven't been to Duke's, but they give you a 250 dollar travel subsidy to attend (duke 1, GULC 0) so i'll definitely be there march 22. I guess you can't really make a poor choice, and if you've spent that past four years at florida, maybe you want to look beyond north carolina for law school. I'm originally from Tampa and have spent the past few years in New York, so I'm looking forward to the return south. Also, I don't know how risk averse you are or how keen you are to leave or stay in Florida, but I imagine that if you were at the bottom of your class at Duke, you'd find a better job in florida than you would be able to coming from GULC.

EDIT: obviously i mean better than the bottom of the class at GULC. Another thing to think about is that Raleigh and Durham combine for about 600,000 people. Washington, D.C. is about 500,000 people. So there isn't so much a "big city" v. "small town" decision as it is a "urban, cosmopolitan environment" vs. "suburban, more middle-america environment" decision. Oh. another point. Right now I assume you're from Florida and went to UF, right? perhaps there is an advantage to going to school in a major legal market (NY or DC) rather than durham, so as to have a better idea where you might want to be post-grad. Though, GULC hasn't given you any money. This means both that the school is less well endowed than duke and that you will have to pay a whole lot more. sorry for the rambling, but this is obviously something i need to think about too.anyway, goodluck. let me know what you're thinking.

go to gtown!!!

I'm really deciding between Georgetown, UVA, and U of Chicago right now. Georgetown was farther down my list but I've been talking to lawyers in VA and DC and they love GT. If your deciding between GT and Duke I would go GT no doubt.

withdrawing?
Monday, December 04 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the note. I sent back cards to schools who included one in the admissions packet, and for others (Virginia, Columbia), I emailed them. I just said 'thanks for the admit, but I'll be attending ___" or something along those lines. Good luck on your remaining apps!

Did you leverage another offer to get this, or did G'town just send it to you? Thanks!

Saturday, March 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

it's awesome you get to go to Georgetown... they rejected me but I get to go to a school I really really want to go to!
