Thanks. I was accepted to the fulltime program. I'm not sure its between Stetson and FIU right now but i'm still waiting to hear from FSU and Miami. I'm gonna visit the FIU campus this month though.

I applied to full-time, but I would consider part-time if that were the only way for me to get in. Good luck!

No they didn't tell me why they deferred me. But to me its obvious. Statistically, I don't have high enough credentials for them. They have a very competitive field, i'm very fortunate that they have waitlisted me. Based on their applicant pool i should be a downright rejection. By the way, i applied to full-time.

thanks! I became friends with a tutor at princeton review. She became my private tutor on the side and we used TestMasters material... it should've been a higher score, but test day is always so unpredictable!

Admissions

It seems that everyone is very focused on the numbers alone in their application to law school. While the numbers are important it is important to keep in mind that they review SEVERAL aspects of the applicant's profile before making a decision. Just because you have low numbers doesn't necessarily mean that you will be rejected, or that you deserve to be waitlisted. I choose to view myself as competitive despite their other applicants. I mean, how many other people did two majors and a minor and held down a full time job, and became fluent in two foriegn languagees while in college? I can speak one of the hardest languages on earth, Arabic, and I studied at the Arabic Language Institute in Morocco. I chose to highlight what made me different from other applicants and why I would be make a valuable contribution to their student body. I hope you guys did the same. Good luck to all and I seriously hope everyone gets into their top choice.

i applied FT. it was a late decision to apply there... and I know they are a selective school. Right now Stetson is looking like my most realistic choice... that is unless one of these state schools open their doors.

deferred:

my apps are on hold. unlike being waitlisted, where I would be on a list to be accepted when others opt out, they are holding my application for review later on, like in April/May. so in a sense, they are trying to make this as agonizing as possible.

all my apps are full time. i have not heard back yet from FIU, but yes, deferred at UF, FSU and UM. UF hurt the most.

FIU Call
Thursday, February 07 2008 at 07:00 PM

I actually called them today about the PT/FT thing and they told me if I wanted to try for PT that I would need to send them a fax saying that is what I wanted to be considered for. I really would like to go FT or not at all down south there so I am not sure that I will end up doing it. Hope you got good news today.

Yeah man
Saturday, February 16 2008 at 07:00 PM

I kinda figured that out once I checked your profile. I'm not going to let myself be discouraged by something some random person posts to my profile. I think the person that posted that is trying to get people to call and request the PT program to free up spaces in the FT program so he/she will have a better chance of getting in. It may be someone that was deferred or waitlisted. Anyway not my problem and I have no intention of changin my application. Another thing this mystery poster doesn't know is that I spoke with the admissions director at FIU, Alma Miro, and she informed me that all applications to the FT program are considered for the PT program as well. She said that usually the people that are just below what they are accepting for the FT program are offered the PT program. So in the end that person is wasting his/her time... Anyway, best of luck man. I know how stressful this entire process is. Take care...

I have a master's in public administration. The waiting is indeed the worst part of this process. Sorry to hear about your deferral. What are your plans if you don't get into FIU?

Still waiting for a decision. I really like FIU. I really can't say where I will attend yet. I'm still waiting to hear from a few schools. I didn't apply to any school that I would not attend nor did I apply to any school I would not want to graduate from. Are you applying to other schools or just FIU? How close are we in numbers?

No I did full time...and really late, its sort of a crap shoot, if I dont get anywhere this year I'm just gonna retake the lsat and reapply. I'm almost considering withdrawing and restarting...

Hey man, long time no talk. I spoke to FIU last week and they said that I should have a decision sometime this week or early next week, so since they are so close to making the decision I would like to at least see what they say and potentially if they (out of the blue) decided to give me any bit of money, which I highly doubt. I do feel for you as you are waiting to hear a final decision, and I assure you I will act on their decision promptly. I really can't see myself going anywhere else besides Stetson unless some school gives me a ridiculous offer and that isn't going to happen and Stetson (like FIU for you) is really where I want to be. I'll let you know when I hear word. Good luck between now and then though.

deferrals
Wednesday, January 16 2008 at 07:00 PM

In the same boat as you deferred from FIU, I was wondering if you had submitted any additonal material. A LOCI, or another LOR? The letter they sent really didn't give any information other than, "congrats you get to wait some more." :) Anyhow good luck to you I like to think a deferral means there is someone on the committee that really likes you and won't let them put you in the reject file..

FIU & Akron
Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

Ur exactly right, there isnt any way us low LSAT people will get money from FIU. But I am a resident of the state of Florida, so my tuition over there will be about 10k a year. Akron's scholarship only covers tuition, which means that I will have to pay for housing and living expenses. The way I calculated it, the living expenses over there in Akron will cost me about 10k a year. So in the end, Akron and FIU will be just about the same price for me, because if I stay in Miami and go to FIU, I wouldnt have to worry about housing and living expenses. I would just continue living at home with my parents. At this point its very simple for me, if FIU says yeah, I would gladly attend there and stay my behind home. If they say NO, then I'll be forced to head up to Ohio. Either way, they are both good schools, and I'll be okay in either environment. Good luck!!
