It seems that everyone is very focused on the numbers alone in their application to law school. While the numbers are important it is important to keep in mind that they review SEVERAL aspects of the applicant's profile before making a decision. Just because you have low numbers doesn't necessarily mean that you will be rejected, or that you deserve to be waitlisted. I choose to view myself as competitive despite their other applicants. I mean, how many other people did two majors and a minor and held down a full time job, and became fluent in two foriegn languagees while in college? I can speak one of the hardest languages on earth, Arabic, and I studied at the Arabic Language Institute in Morocco. I chose to highlight what made me different from other applicants and why I would be make a valuable contribution to their student body. I hope you guys did the same. Good luck to all and I seriously hope everyone gets into their top choice.
Good luck to you as well! We are applying to many of the same schools. I did not receive an email from Stetson, only a letter. I am more than happy to accept a spot on the waitlist because it's certainly better than a rejection.
Ok, so now it is obvious that this mystery poster is someone with a high GPA that BOMBED on the LSAT and had terrible soft factors,, got deferred or waitlisted, and now wants to make everyone else's life hell. to you I have this to say: grow up! Maybe more mediocre students, as you say, are getting in because they actually took part in their education and did tons of work outside the classroom. It counts more than you know. And FYI, I spoke with the admissions director, Alma Miro, at FIU, and she informed me that all applicants are automatically considered for the PT program if the are just below their current selection for the FT program. So get a life!
Congrats on Florida Coastal. As of now, what is your first choice?
I think you have to stay positive b/c this process is equally stressful for everyone (at least I think) and remaining positive allows me not to lose my sanity! It wasn't that hard for me to apply (not speaking financially) b/c when you open up the online apps alot of the info is prefilled. I think I might have applied to about 80 something school (crazy i know!) But I just wanted options and I didn't know where I would be competative or not. You can't win if you don't play the game right! Best of luck with you and your process......... p.s. I might add a few more schools to your list b/c you are about a hit or miss threshold at alot of places with regards to your numbers. Who knows you just might slip into a a really good school.......
Congrats on your acceptance to Florida Coastal! Hopefully this will be the beginning of a string of acceptances. Right now I'm considering both Rutgers (which is in NJ, btw :)) and UB. I'm thinking about Pace too, but it's awfully expensive, more expensive for me as a in-state resident than at Rutgers as a non-resident. We'll see though.
I recieved the email in mid January about the status checker and I was listed as File complete for about 3-4 weeks and then it switched to decision mailed. Good luck, my odds haven't been that good this cycle, I was over confident in my application and not enough safety schools. My fingers are crossed still with 4 left that I'll be in law school this fall.
Thanks for the email, good luck this cycle!
I noticed the 'Decision Mailed' early this past week (17th). However the status tracker says the state changed on the 14th. Currently, I live in Texas and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be attending Stetson. I plan to withdraw this early this week. Good Luck!
I'm holding out hope for the Texas schools that I applied. I have to balance work, family, and school. Texas will work the best. A few options like SeattleU, DenverU and Santa Clara, I have family nearby that could assist. Florida however, I don't. So I will be withdrawing. The irony is the schools that best fit my life requirements, are the ones stringing me along. ;)
Not sure if I'm heading there or not. I sent in my seat deposit. But am waiting on some waitlists and the proverbial delay from FIU. Who knows what's going on there. But it's local for me and I have a lot to consider from a home/marriage/job/real estate perspective. Best of luck to you. Hopefully we hear from FIU before memorial day!
I appreciate the kind words. Congrats on your acceptance to Stetson. I would have loved to go there if given the opportunity. You will shine there becuase it sounds like you are a really smart guy thta has an imperfection with BIG test taking. Good luck and remember to just enjoy the 3 or 4 years. P.S. I had a friend that attended Stetson and he said that you can move into the FT program after your first year with no problem.
For the info, I've been to Stetson for a mock trial thing, it's gorgeous. Good luck with FIU!
Thank you for the heads up, the article was pretty interesting, and trust me it was troubling reading it. You never want to hear that kind of scrutiny towards the law school that you are attending. But even after reading that, I will still stick to my decision. The deadline for FAMU's push for full accreditation is still 15 months away, and if things still dont improve up there by next spring, I would bust my butt, obtain solid grades, and consider transfering to another state institution. At this point, I'm not thinking of graduation really, right now I'm just concerned about having a successful first year. Yea I do have a lot of opportunities elsewhere, but most of those other choices will also bring me unbearable amount of debt later in life. I'm trying very hard to limit that. Although I want to go to law school, and become a successful attorney, I'm not willing to give up the entire bank for that dream at this young of an age. University of Akron was another possible option for me, but it seems like a pretty risky pick for me due to their stiff scholarship standards and steep 1L grading curve. Trust me, FAMU is by no stretch my "dream" pick. But it truly is my "safest" pick for at least the first year when I weigh in all the factors. This hasn't been an easy decision at all, just thinking about it causes me great stress.
Yea man with the recent developments with Duquesne, I have to say that FAMU is moving down my list. I am more confused now than I ever have been, but Duquesne is a really good school. They are highly regarded in the Pittsburgh area, and their scholarship renewal standards arent as high as Akron\'s. As of now, it has jumped up to my top pick, but I\'m not quite ready to commit yet, still got some more thinking to do.
Hey Man, Congrats on Stetson. Looks like I\'ll be there this fall too. I noticed that you attended the admitted students day. I was wondering if I missed anything, also, feel free to email me. It would be good to know atleast one future classmate!
Good luck at Stetson.
Did you go for part or full time?
