Additional info & updates

2/15/08 first answer came in. provisional acceptance to Nova's Aample program, but still not a no; so I am hopeful for some of the other applications.

2/20/08 in at St Thomas, there is hope! Got a call at work. Haven't recieved the letter yet but the admissions person said there was a scholarship included in the offer. Every little bit helps!

02/20/08 rejection from Arkansas, not overly concerned wasn't really planning on moving there. :)

02/27/08 Accepted to western new england with a very nice personal email wrtten by an associate professor who actually read and commented on my personal statement.
They invited me to reconsider and apply for full time, stating that I would most likely recieve a nice scholarship to do so. Wasn't really planning on moving unless I had to, but the personal touch is very nice!

02/29/08 Deferred at Miami. I am actually very happy with that as I didn't think I had a snowball's chance in hell at a tier 2 school.

03/05/08 Significant other recieved a job offer in KC Missouri. Sent app off today, way too late in the cycle to really be considered. Hoping they might waitlist me and maybe I can transfer next year. Does it help or hurt your chances to transfer if you have previously applied to the school in question???

3/18/08 follow up email from Western New England College offering me 20k per year if I switch to full time...I really don't want to move to New England but the idea of graduating with out any real debt is tempting...

3/28/08 Letter in the mail from FIU, deferred. I feel like it is late in the cycle for them to defer me.. I am expecting to be waitlisted or rejected there.. But I guess it is good to know I am still in the game. :)

3/31/08 Letter in the mail, waitlisted at Miami. Sent reply card asking for name to be kept on waitlist. Feel silly writing second LOCI, but not sure what else to do..

4/1/08 Withdrew from WNE today. A great offer, but a tier 4 school, 1 hour from Boston doesn't give it very high regional possibilites. Hoping to hear from FIU soon so that I can make my final decision. Oh and also withdrew from Nova. thanks to the feedback from a few fellow LSNers I decided that AAMPLE was a waste of $ for me.

04/07/08 In at Washburn out at STL. I kinda expected the STL rejection. I sent the lesser of the 2 personal statements there and I didn't add the low GPA addendum. You get out what you put in..

04-08-08 Waitlisted at USD.. a happy surprise! I was expecting a rejection at that school... It was a pretty big reach for me. So I guess I can be satisfied with that. :)

4/29/08 IN AT MIAMI!!! OFF THE WAITLIST!!!
5/07/08 Out at UMKC, not surprised, you can't apply the day of their deadline with low numbers and expect an admit. The KC move seems to have cooled for my significant other, and it is looking like I will be attending the "U".

5/17/08 Accepted at FIU. Waiting on Grad Plus loan information from Miami, if all goes well will withdraw from FIU. My cycle is over, went much better than I had expected.

Letters

Law school alumni letter are always good. I sent three letters in all, one from a Business reference and two Academic references. If you have already sent in your application and were deferred, I don't think you can add/change anything. But I may be wrong. GOOD LUCK!

I do not know a lot about the program, but the price is tremendous. I guess that if you really want to go to NOVA and you have the time and money that it would be worth it, but I just don't have the time or money to put into this. Also, what happens if you do the expensive program and you don't make it? You would have then wasted all that time and money for nothing. You have to remember that it is a competative program with a curve. Therefore, you are in competition with people who have the same desires which creates a huge risk. If you feel that it would be worth while then do it, but just remember that there are other options out there for you. I wish all the luck and thanks for your comments.

In addition to umkc, you might also look at KU and Washburn. They are both within commuting distance of the KC area.

KC area

email me if you have any questions about the KC area, I have lived here for ten years and my wife has lived her for almost her entire life. Also, I have been to Washburn a couple times if you have any questions about the school. My wife can answer questions about KU.

Hey congrats on Miami! - It gives me some hope for my reaches at Catholic and IU INDY. I agree that the low GPA can be forgiven, but in my experience it can also put you in the automatic reject pile right off of the bat. My rejects came FAST - and from FCSL and St. Thomas, where I supposedly had a 90% + chance of getting in. So I don't know about anything at this point. But good luck to you and especially good luck with the Miami waitlist -

I'm still waiting to hear from a couple of schools but I've paid the seat deposit at Washburn and will probably attend the student day. I work in a legal aid office and one of the attorneys there went to Washburn and really enjoyed it. She said the cost of living was reasonable and the school was challenging. I heard the school as a great reputation in the Midwest. I really haven't heard anything bad about the school to be honest. I'll be excited to go anywhere really! Good luck to you and maybe we'll be classmates come August.

Washburn

I'd be happy to update you on Washburn after I visit next month. They have been kinder than any other school and the cost of living is really low. Plus you can get in state by second semester and they're ranked among top 30 for writing and research and I think top 50 for litigation. Good luck and let me know if you decide to go there (better to start networking sooner than later)

Congrats

Thanks a lot. Congratulations to you too. Feels great to get off that waitlist. I actually grew up in Fort Lauderdale and work in the Miami area right now. I grew up a canes fan so I'm really excited to be going there. Hope to see you next fall. Where else are you considering?

FIU
Wednesday, January 16 2008 at 07:00 PM

Greg, I will withdraw from FIU as soon as all my loans get approved. :) Being accepted to Miami is one thing, paying for it is another; and FIU is a very inexpensive alternitive...sorry, but until all the numbers are in the game is still on..

Thanks for the post! I'm not sure why my board ended up being ground zero for the FIU/Miami debate but it seems to be a popular attraction. heh. Definitely excited for the U and I'll see you at orientation!
