Additional info & updates

PERIODIC UPDATES -

2008.10.30 - Scrambling to finish up my applications!

2008.10.30 - added my HUGE list of schools, odds are I wont be applying to all of these, its just my "first glance" list.

2008.11.17 - Sent out the first 7 applications last night, and am going to send out the remainder tonight. I have cut down my list slightly. I kept a very lofty list of schools, but took out schools that were perhaps likely acceptances, but that I wouldn't end up choosing to attend over other "likelies" or safety schools.

2008.11.18 - Sent out 6 more applications. Only UB and St. John's left to send out. Submitting those via paper application due to Merit-Based Fee Waivers requiring paper application.

2008.11.18 - UB is sent in (I am a UB alum). Only St. John's left! Already have received "received" emails from a few of the schools. After St. John's it is just a matter of waiting it out, and letting the cards fall as they will.

2008.12.01 - Starting to get notices about "completed" applications. Still have to send out St. John's application, which I am considering a "safety" school (though there are never any guarantees). Will be interviewing at Vanderbilt on 2008.12.15! Hope to hear back from a school or two soon, maybe Fordham or George Mason?

2008.12.05 - Waiting is the hardest part.... would really just like to hear from somewhere soon, preferably with an acceptance! I feel like this will be a slow cycle because of the huge number of applicants this year. Who knows though!

2008.12.15 - Waiting...... I think I will hear from American and perhaps Fordham in the next week or two. Interview at Vanderbilt (long-shot) on Monday! No matter what happens it will be a good experience.

2008.12.26 - First response from a law school, and its a rejection to GMU. I applied there full and part time, so I was a little surprised, and disappointed. But, I hear they do some strange things with admissions practices with applicants in my range.

EDIT: In at Buffalo (safety, my alma mater) with a 16,200 dollar scholarship over 3 years (half tuition).

2009.01.04 - Happy New Year! I decided to add a few more "target/reach" type schools. One big reach, a couple reachy targets? Reach - Wash U, Target-like Reaches - OSU, Wisconsin

2009.01.12 - Called Case Western just to see if they had my app, since I hadn't heard anything. They said they were "completing" my app and I should hear soon. At least I know they have it!

2009.01.14 - IN AT CATHOLIC! This was an important (albeit a safety school) acceptance for me, as the opportunity for me to return to my firm is available if I do very well at Catholic. I really love the DC area, so depending on what happens the rest of the cycle, Catholic has definite potential.

2009.01.15 - Deferred to RD at GW. I wasn't expecting to get in ED, and I am a long-shot to begin with, so I view this deferral from my DREAM SCHOOL, as a positive!

2009.01.17 - $15,000 from Catholic. Rejected at Boston College.

2009.01.23 - Waitlisted at Fordham (reach), decision mailed at Vanderbilt (super reach), and under review at Brooklyn.

2009.01.22 - Rejected at Vanderbilt. Big reach, so not surprised. But on my birthday!? Ouch.

2009.01.29 - Waitlisted at Cardozo with an invite to apply for the May program. Considering it... nothing to lose!

2009.02.02 - Rejected to the dream school, Georgetown (applied for part time)

2009.02.09 - Accepted at Maryland. Rejected at BU.

2009.02.13 - In at Case Western w/ 13,000/yr. scholarship.

2009.02.17 - In at St. John's w/ 25,000/yr scholarship.

2009.02.20 - Rejected at the other dream school... GW.

2009.03.30 - Haven't updated in awhile, a few waitlists, WISCONSIN is the PREFERRED (deferred option) waitlist. Likely putting deposit in at Maryland. Still thinking things through.

Hey there, I also applied ED to GWU. Do you know much about their acceptance stats? How many and at what numbers? I have no idea if I even stand a chance. Anyway, best of luck!

Sorry bout GMU. How did they notify you?

Sorry about Mason

I think the only reason they deferred me is bc I'm a VA resident. Don't let it get to you- I'm sure you'll get into a school that will be an even better fit.

Yes, it does feel like American is taking forever. I would think people with our numbers would be pretty safe.

GW
Thursday, January 15 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, I applied for full-time, so I knew there wasn't a serious chance unless they made an error or loved my personal statement for some reason. Oh well. But now American is my first choice, and mid-March seems very far away. Good luck with GW part time

Sorry about the waitlist at American. I got the same letter today. I definitely didn't expect that at the start of this cycle.

Thursday, November 27 2008 at 07:00 PM

I am sending you my very best and most positive thoughts, to get you speedily off those waitlists at American and Fordham. This cycle is warping my mind, too... Visit, if you haven't already! NYC is beckoning you!

Thursday, November 27 2008 at 07:00 PM

Oh, I'm hoping like crazy that you get American, then! I still have to hear that LSAT story! I'm just embarrassed about mine. The cycle is far from over...

Ehh, I'm not sure yet. I haven't confirmed. I am thinking If this happened a month ago, I definitely would have, but I am considering just concentrating on Cardozo and W & L (for a long shot) and let American go. Waiting this long has just put a bad taste in my mouth. You planning to stick it out?

Thursday, November 27 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hoff, I'm having insane decision paralysis! I hope your cycle is giving you an easier time than mine is...

Wash U indeed

Thanks for the congrats. I am very happy and excited. I can't say I expected it, but I'll definitely take it. I'm not sure if its possible, but you should try and visit the school to talk to someone. You never know.
