Additional info & updates

3/19/2009 I am halfway through my first semester at John Marshall in the evening program. I like it a lot. Feel free to ask questions. I will be happy to respond.

12/8/08 So i guess I have to retract my statement about JMLS. my friend with the much higher lsat was also offered the part time evening program. So I guess the day program is full.

12/3/2008 Received decision from JMLS, accepted but letter said the full time day program for Jan is full so I am accepted to the part time evening program. I am on a waitlist to be admitted to full time day. Not too happy with that. I have a friend who applied for Jan and went complete this week with a much higher LSAT score, it will be interesting to see if they find a full time day slot for him. I am a bit bitter. I expected a rejection or being accepted, the middle ground never really occurred to me.My question though: I went complete before the original deadline for Jan applications, why extend the deadline if the program was already full? I really would have preferred they had said we thought you weren't qualified for the day program if that is the case.

11/25/08 Decided to add another January application. Washburn. Looks like they have a good family law program and cheaper than anywhere else I have applied. I would miss Chicago but who knows maybe Topeka is nice too. They also requested my report within an hour of my application and were very nice on the phone which puts them two steps up on JMLS.

11/24/08 Called JM still no decision. I wonder if they will make any decisions this week, being the Holiday week and all. A friend just received his January schedule, so I assume they will be kinda of busy with complaints about the schedule this week. Who knows. I am trying to stay positive but it seems the earliest I will know is first week of December and that isnt much time to prepare to start in January. Good luck to those also playing the waiting game.

11/20/08 I was worried about JMLS taking so long and what their decision may be, so I applied to Cooley too. Both applications are for January.

11/18/08
Applying for January 2009 at John Marshall. Applied 10 weeks ago. 6 weeks complete and still no decision. Congrats to all those who have gotten in so far, hope to join you. I guess this is a good lesson in learning patience though. Waiting for results of the bar will not be easy either.

Thanks! 'Twas for the Spring 09 semester, though I've withdrawn and decided to try for next fall. Best of luck!

If you don't mind me asking why did DePaul say they rejected you (if they gave any reason at all).

Thanks for Response

I have a fee wavier through the LSAC, meaning I didn't have to pay for the LSAT, the LSDAS service, etc. So I called John Marshall and asked how can I qualify for a fee waiver and they told me to mail my approval letter from the LSAC and so I did. I don't know if my app is complete so I don't know how far it will go but their admission office told me that was all I needed. I kinda got depress when I seen DePaul rejected you, because my score is way worse then yours and they are my top choice. But I am praying for you on Marshall. I am almost sure you be ok. Do you live in Chicago as well?

Thank You

Thank you for your kind words as well. Call John Marshall Admissions Office and ask them about the fee waiver. Its always best to hear from the horse's mouth, itself.

Hey, if you are willing to go to Cooley, what about trying Southern IL and Northern IL. Their tutition rates are cheap as ever (because they are State Schools) and for Northern your commute is only about an hour and the half if that (only if you wanted to stay close to the city.) Check it out and let me know what you think of the two.

Oh but I still think your shot at JMLS is very promising (I just wanted to add)

...still no word?

Thank you so much for your support. I am going to do all what you suggest. I still have my fingers crossed for you as well. One other thing, why not Chicago-Kent?

Wednesday, October 08 2008 at 08:00 PM

If you are able to get a fee waiver to these schools (Kent & Loyola) I think you should try them. Law schools can be so unpredictable with their admissions process from time to time.

They reconsidered me for the Spring and decided I was only good enough for a 1/2 tuition summer-starting scholarship. Adcoms are so strange..

I am nervously waiting the JM reply too! I applied for the Jan 09 as well as you did. Do you recommend I call to check the status of my application? Good luck!

Congrats!

Congratulations! I know it may not be exactly what you were expecting, but that's not always a bad thing, right? Besides, I hear JMLS is very, very liberal about transferring from one division to another.

I am happy if you are happy
Wednesday, October 08 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hooray, you are in at law school and you get to stay in Chicago. Please look at it in a more positive way. You can always change divisions. "My girl is in law school and she gets to stay in Chicago", woo hoo:-).!!! Smile, girl.

thank you, congrats on your acceptance to JMLS as well! I do plan to attend.

Hey, I had a question and it's kind of intrusive, so if you don't want to share that's fine. But I noticed that we have the same numbers, 151 LSAT and my GPA is 3.54 and you got rejected from Washburn? That makes me really nervous because I've applied there and it was my backup plan to UMKC. I've been waitlisted at UMKC and thought I would for-sure get into Washburn. Do you have any idea why you weren't accepted? Thanks

Hello, I was accepted into the fall full-time program at John Marshall. I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about the school and surrounding area. Does it seem too expensive in the long run (tuition + room/board) Also, how difficult was it to find an apt. if living in Chicago??
