Additional info & updates

11/24/08 I got my letter from DePaul. I don't know whether to be happy or sad. Happy because I still have a chance, sad because there is still a possiblity I could be denied. Any advice how I could get accepted off the wait list.

12/19/08 In at JMLS. I am so happy to be accepted somewhere. I am going to law school, what a dream come true!!! If I don't receive a response from Kent by 1/1/09, I will be starting at Marshall on 1/20/09.

Thanks. I really want to get into Howard. My choices after Howard is CUNY and Rutgers. Good Luck to you, when are you going to send in your apps?

Hello
Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

Wow, our numbers are really similar. Closest I've seen so far! I am hoping for a school that is a little closer to where I am at; my top choices are Washburn, UMKC and Oklahoma City. Yeah, I am glad that I got accepted at Cooley, that is a relief to know that someone wants me at their school. That makes me feel like no matter what happens I am going somewhere next fall, and that is a great feeling. Which one is your top school? Good luck on your applications, hope you get into a school you want!

Hey!
Wednesday, October 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

I feel like you should aim higher because of the URM status!

Higher
Wednesday, October 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yes, I feel like NW and UChicago should be on your list too!! I know, I think I am going overboard but hey I have to use those fee-waivers!

Tuesday, February 19 2008 at 07:00 PM

I'm glad I could inspire some hope. I really think you have a shot at some other schools as well. JMLS-Atlanta as well as NCCU would be good choices. Looks like you want to stay in the Chicago area. Any interest anywhere else?

Large Firm
Wednesday, July 23 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey, no they are not going to be helping me pay for it. I do however enjoy working there, some of the lawyers are happy some are not. It all depends on how they handle everything really.

Tuesday, June 17 2008 at 08:00 PM

top choice right now would be either NYU or columbia. i have my fingers crossed because i think i have a good chance, but i really dont want to assume anything. what's your top choice?

Thank you!
Friday, October 26 2007 at 08:00 PM

Best of luck to you in your cycle

I'd love to end up at Stanford or Berkley but we'll see.

Thank you!
Friday, January 11 2008 at 07:00 PM

Im sure you will do fine in your cycle! Good luck, and apply to more schools!

DePaul
Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

The letter did not really give a reason beyond the usual, we have 5,000 applications for 300 seats so it is very competitive. I expected a rejection from them honestly, i knew the median GPA is much higher than my score. I wish you luck though. If you do not mind my asking how did you get a fee waiver from John Marshall?

Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

Well thank you for the kind words. I only asked about John Marshall and the fee waiver because I was told that under no circumstances do they give fee waivers :( Anyway I applied for full-time with DePaul so maybe it will be different with part time. I also applied for their special section for family law, so that may have been part of it too. I have a friend who had similar qualifications and applied for the same section and he was also already rejected, so probably it is good that you havent heard. Anyway, I believe that things happen for a reason and I hope you get in to DePaul if that is where you want to go. Good Luck!

Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

I am also from Chicago by the way

Good Luck
Sunday, May 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks so much for the message! It was good to hear from you. I wish you the best of luck this app cycle. I think I'll hear back from BC and UCLA in next month (Dec)!

hey yeah i got my letter in a big heavy envelope... of all those schools i am going for IU is probably my top choice, its not the highest ranked one but i would get in state tuition..

Thursday, July 03 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! Looks like its Chicago or nothing for you haha. Ohio State is my top choice. I applied early decision, so hopefully that counts for something because my 160 is a tad below their median. If OSU doesn't pan out, I'm going to wait and see how my cycle turns out and then go on the "law school world tour" to find my best fit! I love Chicago, though so maybe ill see you at Kent or DePaul next fall!

Thursday, July 03 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! Ohio State is perfect for me, not in the least because it's very central to my family. I've resigned myself to the fact that a 160 is a bit below their median, so if they ding me, I'll understand. Hopefully they will give me a shot, though! If not, I could see myself in the Chi. It's such a great city, and both DePaul and Kent are solid schools with some great individual programs (Health Law for DePaul, IP and Writing for Kent). I'd be happy at either one!

Thursday, July 03 2008 at 08:00 PM

Let's hope so. I'm about 2 points below the median and that can make a difference. I'm Caucasian by race and Sephardic Jewish by ethnicity, though I hardly played that up on my apps. I mostly discussed life experience in my diversity statements.

Thanks
Thursday, March 27 2008 at 08:00 PM

DePaul came in a big white envelope. It is a huge relief getting that first one. Best of luck this cycle!

Wednesday, July 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

Good luck with DePaul. As for my top choice, that fluctuates every time someone asks, but for the moment it's Tulane.

Thanks
Monday, November 03 2008 at 07:00 PM

Ya I am very excited to know that I have somewhere to go next year. Hope you have some good news soon!

Thanks
Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the continued support, The only reason I applied to Cooley and not Northern or Southern is because I really want to start in January. I guess I will see how it works out though. Hope you get some great news soon.

DePaul
Thursday, September 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thank you. DePaul is my first choice and has been for a while. I applied at the other schools just to see what happens but I don't expect better offers. I don't think there was anything special about my PS other than I think it was well-written. For my DS, I mentioned by parents' modest backgrounds and how I have a genuine interest in helping the working poor, which is true. As far as race, I'm biracial: Causasian and Asian (Pakistani). Good luck to you; I really hope you make it. I think this year's applicant pool is going to be huge, hence the waitlist.

Congrats...
Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

On Depaul, I think the waitlist is a good thing. An email to the dean of admissions about your continued interest in Depaul and you specific reasons about it being your top choice are a good start. Also consider another letter of recommendation. I really think you will get off the waitlist. Good Luck

Wednesday, October 29 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hello. Good luck with the app process. I really think you should apply to other schools. Have you considered: Thomas Cooley and Florida Coasta. Their applications are free; the wait for my results are nerve wracking. Good luck again.

Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

No problem on the waitlist advice. I have a couple friends that were off the waitlist within an hour of the email to the Dean (not at Depaul though)so I hope it works. I didnt apply to Kent because I found it unlikely I would get in. I only took the chance at DePaul because I work for a 7 yr DePaul alum and because they have a great family law program and I have done a lot of famlaw stuff in the area. I own a business that is very related to famlaw and it has helped me network well. (not well enough for DePaul but cant win them all right?)Loyola also has a great Famlaw program but they arent as friendly with $ as DePaul.

I really wish you the best
Friday, October 26 2007 at 08:00 PM

I truly do. Did you only take the LSAT once? How much studying did you do? I understand law is a passion, but if you can hold off on applying until next cycle and boost your LSAT a little bit, you will be sitting pretty. Send me a private message if you want to discuss it some more. Again, best of luck to you and I hope you have a happy holiday season.

Thanks!
Thursday, August 28 2008 at 08:00 PM

Godd luck with your apps too! There's still hope with DePaul, have you thought of retaking? 5-10 points might make a world of difference. My fingers are crossed for you, Chicago-Kent looks like a great school!

Chicago Hope!
Thursday, August 07 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey I'm from Chicago too so I'm hoping to get into some schools there. Don't let the WL get you down. You should consider sending a Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI). Just a one page letter stating further interest. And if you do more volunteer work, take more courses or anything else of note send them updates to anything you do. Best of Luck!!!

Thanks a lot!
Thursday, October 30 2008 at 08:00 PM

I appreciate the well wishes. I wouldn't stress to much if I were you. I think your package should be pretty competitive at CKC and John Marshall. I can identify with having a family and a mortgage. It really adds a new dynamic to our application cycle, doesn't it. lol. Well best of luck to you!!

Thanks
Friday, November 14 2008 at 07:00 PM

I appreciate the congrats and hope you have a great cycle yourself.

Thanks
Saturday, October 18 2008 at 08:00 PM

I am hoping for Columbia or NYU because I am from New York and really want to stay in that area. Thanks for the congratulations and I hope you have a great cycle.

: )
Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

Your message made me smile. I think I was so negative because I really was surprised, like I did not even consider the possibility, ya know, but believe me I am getting much more used to the idea. Thanks for the support! I hope you get some good news soon too.

Thanks...even though I'm not sure how much I can support the DAWGs..lol

Thanks!
Monday, November 17 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for your nice comment :) My top choices are probably either Illinois (keeping my fingers crossed!)/Northern because of the price or Kent/DePaul because of the location. How about you? Looks like we both applied to the PT programs at Kent and DePaul, so maybe we'll be classmates in the fall! Good luck!

thanks!
Monday, February 11 2008 at 07:00 PM

thanks for the encouraging words. best of luck to you as well! i am really not sure what i am going to do but i think since there's no way of knowing if i'll get off the waitlist i will probably end up going to marquette because i liked the school a lot as well.

Wednesday, July 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I'm not really sure what my top choice is yet. I don't think I'll know until I have all my acceptance/rejection letters in hand, and can compare scholarship offers. But...if I had to pick today, it would be either Loyola or Vandy.

Good Luck
Friday, June 06 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thank you. My top choice is probably Northwestern...but I'd be happy at the schools I have gotten in to so far...Working for an entertainment lawyer was definitely an interesting experience. I got the internship through a friend of a lady I met while I worked at Starbucks. He was a sole practicioner and I learned a little about Pay/play rights and creating form contracts. Although, he had some high profile clients...it's not all about the glamor and glitz. If you know any lawyers don't be afraid to talk to them. In my experience they have been more than willing to help me along the way.

Friday, June 06 2008 at 08:00 PM

ET Law is hard to break into so it's definitely about who you know...make as many connections as possible...look into BESLA...and I bought a book called How to Get Into the Top Law Schools..they have pretty good info on writing LOCIs to get off the waitlist. Good Luck

DePaul
Sunday, March 09 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, they sent me a form I had to fax back to them if I wanted to remain on the waitlist. I feel I would tilt more towards a waitlist/in because of my GPA.

DePaul
Sunday, March 09 2008 at 08:00 PM

I only applied for the FT program, as I have no interest in the PT. The form gave me the option of being considered for the PT program as well, which I declined (I feel I would have been admitted to that one w/o being WL had I applied)

Tuesday, August 05 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hehe, thanks... but actually, I still have 10 schools left to hear from. I just set the applications as "hidden" on LSN until I hear back from them. Good luck with DePaul!

Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on John Marshall! :) I am very excited for you! And it gives me hope.

nicely done!
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on John Marshall. A close friend of mine is going to John Marshall as well. Nicely done on this cycle! I am very proud.

Hey congrats on John Marshall. I got a conditional acceptance sorta, they offered me a chance to come interview for a spot in their SCALES Program which goes on during the summer. So hopefully I will see in the fall if nothing else comes thru.

Congrats!
Sunday, November 09 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on John Marshall! I am still waiting to hear from them for the spring semester. Hopefully I will be joining you there!

HI
Friday, January 02 2009 at 07:00 PM

Wow, my background is very similar as well. I usually go by the name legal diva and have been for the past 7 yrs. This is crazy!!! I graduated from a Paralegal program back in 2003 and applied to all the same schools as you. Hopefully I'll get accepted this year. I've been at this for the past 3yrs. I was waitlist for Valparaiso but didn't get accepted.

Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on getting into John Marshall! I am so happy for you! Best of luck in the future.

Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

LOL I just realized that I had previously congratulated you towards the end of December with a different comment. As you can tell, I am really happy for you!

Thanks
Wednesday, October 29 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey Lady. Thank You. I am so excited about beginning LS this fall. I just got accepted by Thomas Cooley too. My top choice is George Washington Law School- It is a far reach but I am remaining hopeful!! Congrats on your acceptance to John Marshall. Keep me posted.

Sunday, October 19 2008 at 08:00 PM

Did you enroll?

Wednesday, May 14 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thats funny because I applied for spring admission and they offered the summer program for fall admission. I guess we both got opposite results..lol. How have they been about responding to emails and confirming they have received all your information. I ask because I fax my interest letter for the interview and I emailed them to make sure they received it and I havent received a response as of yet.

Thanks! SMU is my top pick, but I know it is a long shot. More than likely, I will end up at Texas Wesleyan University.
