Additional info & updates

First acceptances 12/5 - Yea!!!

Tulsa - Acceptance and full tuition scholarship via snail mail

OCU - Very nice phone call from assistant Dean of Admissions with acceptance and full tuition scholarship offer. I'm very impressed with the woman who called me, she was genuinely excited and happy for me. She even mentioned some of the other schools I've applied to in order to note how many great options she is sure I will have but that she hopes I will come to an event they're having for scholarship recipients in January to meet with faculty.

12/9 - Acceptance from OU. (Family was visiting for my daughter's birthday so this was a nice piece of good news to share with everyone)

12/11 - Acceptance from Houston with 8K per year scholarship and the offer of resident tuition.

12/16 - Scholarship info. from OU - Offered the Comfort scholarship which is 8k/6k/6k + an additional 2k per year. Must maintain B- to retain Comfort and a 2.9 to retain the 2K scholarship.

01/12 - Went to decision via online status checker at Michigan!! Keeping my fingers crossed and my breath held.

1/17 - Received acceptance packet from Michigan!!

1/19 - E/m acceptance from WUSTL with note that scholarship info will follow in February.

2/9 - Waitlisted at Duke. Will think about this for a couple of days but most likely not taking a seat on the waitlist.

2/26 - UVA acceptance in regular-sized letter envelope.

3/2 - Scholarship info from WUSL - 22K per year.

Good Luck on the LSAT. I also took the LSAT on the 30th and I don't think I have great patience...because I can hardly wait. Good luck on getting the school you want!

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the good luck wishes. Good luck to you too!

Congrats!

Hey, congrats on the acceptances, that's awesome! Tulsa is a nice university but gosh as far as your numbers go, you could do soooo much better. Don't go to law school in Oklahoma unless you're positive you want to spend the rest of your life here. Michigan will no doubt accept you, that's where I'd recommend you go of all the schools on your list. Well whatever you decide best of luck! You will no doubt do awesomely wherever you end up.

I am sure they will accept you; yours stats aren't so bad yourself! ;) Tulsa is a good school too. Go Hurricanes! Hehe. And congrats on the OU acceptance, nicely done.

Awesome job on the full ride! Are you going for sure? I'm thinking about attending, that is I am admitted. How's the city? Friendly?

Hey!

I am a huge fan of Tulsa - can't wait to go. Hope to see you there! What area of town do you live in? My favorite part of town is Swan Lake/Midtown/Florence Park. I hope to rent a little house near TU when I go. We'll see! Good luck on your other apps! K

Hey I just got an acceptance from Tulsa. Did they send your scholarship offer with your acceptance letter or did it come after?

Nice cycle

Congrats retake twin ! (or as close as I can find one with my crazy retakes). You've applied to an interesting assortment of schools - leaning towards any in particular?

Funny you should mention it, I just took mine off today, right before I read your comment :) What can I say? I've succumbed... I can't think of a way to explain why UIUC did not give me the full scholarship I really wanted, so I've taken some stuff down just in case. At the end of the cycle, I'll put everything back in, including my crazy retake saga. No idea about the school I'll end up at, though I'm expecting to at least narrow it down to three by mid-March.

TU

What is TU's reach outside of Tulsa (or OK even)? I got an e-mail last week from a Tulsa grad who is working in a firm somewhere in GA. Am I correct in assuming she is the exception to the rule that most TU grads stay in Tulsa?

Which school are you planning to attend?

Michigan? It would be cool to see you at TU, but your numbers are way too good to be at a T4.

I was hoping you could tell me a little about TU?

Hell, why NOT TU?
Sunday, December 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

Sounds like you've got everything in life most others dream of: Good family, kids, roots. Why not pick TU? Sure, you're not going to make $150k/year coming out of TU...but you're also not going to work 70-80 hours a week coming out of TU. You can't put in that kind of time even if you want to (and what sane person does?). I'd say take the full ride at TU and don't look back. You will do just fine. Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words. I actually withdrew my application from Tulsa today. My reasons were strictly financial. I'm an old man with $28k in undergrad debt. I just can't see incurring $100k+ more at Tulsa when I have a scholarship offer at a school right here in my hometown. At this point I have decided that, if FIU says no, I will be at Barry this fall. Good luck to you!

Tulsa

Tulsa called me today, trying to get me to reconsider! She even mentioned that there might be some money...but didn't give an amount. I e-mailed her tonight and asked, point blank, if they could offer what I'm getting from Barry. We'll see what happens. Have you made a firm decision?

uh what...
Wednesday, February 07 2007 at 07:00 PM

you got into UVA and you're gonna go to tulsa? wow.... yeah you'll incur more debt but you can also start out with 30 or 40 grand more a year in salary. that basically pays off the debt and you don't have to be #1 in your class to get that kind of job.
