Additional info & updates

GPA low because of first two years.

All apps complete before mid-Jan (except USD - they didn't say anything) ... just waiting on my rejection letters...

I feel like something is wrong.. I applied a really long time ago to not have heard anything yet...

Update 03/06/07: An email from USF has advised me that my application is still being reviewed and that I will receive word in the next few weeks... what the deal? Anyone else get one of these? It quite literally scared the pants off of me. After 4 months of silence it seems they found my app hidden behind a dumpster. The email looks personalized, since there are typos, maybe that's a positive?

03/22/07: Finally, good news. In at GGU. 35k total, 17.5k first year, 17.5k split 2nd and third. Let's hope this gets the ball rolling..

03/30/07: !! In at USF. Wow that took a long time. Let's see if we can carry some momentum for the rest of the schools..

04/14/07: I'm pretty bummed about the WL at USD. I wanted an excuse to go visit and I'm not sure WL is enough to get me down there. I'm going to write them a letter expressing my interest in the school and attach an addendum from my boss who wrote one of my letters of rec. I'm annoyed that I have to keep waiting...

04/20/07: WL at both GM and American. I'm sending in the WL forms with hopes that I get in... The sooner the better, I guess. Still haven't heard from SCU or U of A.

04/23/07: WL at U of A. It seems they sent this to an incorrect address (not my fault) on the 4th, it was returned to them, and then sent back to me. So... SCU is the only one still out. LOTS of WLs. What am I to do?

05/09/07: In at SCU.. about freaking time. 5 months later?! Seat deposit is due VERY soon... SCU v. USF.. anyone have some input?

06/06/07: Call from U of A! IN! That'll take a lot of stress off the money situation. Way to go public school tuition being 'a down payment on a house' less than private school tuition. But I LOVE san francisco... So what do I do now? I live in SF and have an awesome and cheap house near USF.. but U of A has a better ranking and is much cheaper. I'd like to work in the bay area after law school, will this be difficult coming from Tuscon? Any thoughts?

07/06/07: I chose USF over U of A simply based on location and where I'd like to work after I graduate. The people at U of A were so great that I feel like I'm letting them down, but I think this was the best choice for me. I'm still interested in USD and GM however..

07/18/07: Email acceptance to USD. Just as I was settled in for USF. Anyone have any input?

Just thought I would let you know that there are folks out here with fingers crossed for you. I have similar stats, and was accepted to U of WI, so it is possible to land a sweet spot. Keep us posted on your situation.

post more info

I was thinking about your situation, and the timing does seem a little off. However, it's hard to tell without knowing when you were complete, etc. You should post the rest of your dates, and perhaps the situation will be more revealing of what is happening behind the scenes.

You still haven't heard anything? You must be crawling out of your skin. I have reached a psychotic level of impatience and I've heard from some schools at least, so I definitely feel for you. I think it's actually kind of silly how long they make us wait, just because they can. I mean, we have lives to plan! Anyway, thanks for the congrats. You have a great LSAT, these schools would be ridiculous to reject a 165. I'm rooting for you!

HOLD OUT
Saturday, January 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

You got this! your lsat is killer and you should be in at all four - i bet they are holding onto your app to try to admit you the first round, rather than waitlist you and have to review your app again...? I haven't heard from 3/4 of the schools you applied to either.. and i'm starting to go nuts! best of luck!

congrats

Well, at least now you know you are going to law school. It's only a matter of where, now. That should take some of the stress out the equation. Good luck on the rest of your app's.

Good luck!

Congrats on the solid LSAT score, you'll def. hear some positive responses soon. ...Van Koppen helped ruined my gpa too ;-)

USD
Saturday, January 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

did you apply FT only or FT/PT?

re: USD
Thursday, December 21 2006 at 07:00 PM

found out i was accepted off the WL through the mail, got a packet saying i was in. six days later came a grant offer. i didnt do anything to get in, but what i would suggest to you is if its your #1, make the trip down, make an appt for a tour. talk to them. find out if the WL is ranked. express your interest. make it hard for them to ignore you

scu vs. usf
Friday, December 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

i have to say you should try to check out both schools if you can and just pick which one appeals to you more.. i've seen usf but not scu.. i personally would like to think scu would be a better choice but i love sf weather and overall feel of the city so then maybe usf would be a better choice.. i recommend visiting both schools

gm
Friday, December 29 2006 at 07:00 PM

where is gm located? if you live near usf and your happy with where you live I mite suggest going there.. it depends on what you want after law school.. I feel as if sf is a huge market for law firms so yes there is stanford berkeley and hastings but usf is still there.. where i belive scu would be 5th or 6th choice since its not in sf.. know what i mean?

SCU Scholarships
Friday, March 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

I wrote to SCU and told them that I would really like to go there but I have been offered 30k in scholarships from UoP. Then I faxed the letter with a copy of the UoP scholarship, they called me the same day with an offer of their own.

Did you send in anything to ua? Any info would be helpful. Thanks and congrats!

Residency

I am pretty sure if you work in arizona for the summer after your first year, you become a resident for your 2nd and 3rd years.

UA -> Cali
Wednesday, September 13 2006 at 08:00 PM

At the ASD for UofA in April, there were about 30 current students, about 1/3 of whom were 3Ls. Several of these had jobs lined up in California. They said that it took slightly more leg-work getting interviews at California firms, but that the career services people were very helpful. Good luck making your decision.

UA vs USF
Tuesday, June 12 2007 at 08:00 PM

I too am hoping to work in the bay area post-graduation from UA. From what I've heard, it seems like you can do that, California firms *do* visit the school, you may just have to work a little harder to get noticed. As for which school to go to, where would you rather live for 3 years? Tucson is a nice city but I completely understand your love for SF. Go with what works best for you.

congrats on acceptances

It seems to me that you're down to USF v USD. Basically, decide where you want to live/work. If you want to do tech law..go to USF. Otherwise make the choice based on your post-grad life. It's unlikely you're going to do much surfing or Bay Area stuff in 1L. Incredible that USD let you in so late in the cycle.
