---
- Sent "Why Notre Dame?", "Why Duke?", and "Why Michigan?" essays with apps.
- No diversity statements anywhere, because my PS is all about diversity. Don't want to hammer it too hard.
- Sent four-page edited personal statement to Berkeley.

10-24-08: FIRST ACCEPTANCE! Professor from the University of Oklahoma called me today (we talked for half an hour!) to admit me to their class. He also said I'd receive a call offering a "substantial scholarship" from the head of the Admissions Committee. I hate to say it, but his call put OU on my "we'll see how things go" list. If it's free, and if I get few financial offers elsewhere, it sounds like a fun place. Though a bit too close to home!

10-29-08: Complete at Cornell, in time for their Early Action deadline. C'mon, acceptances!

10-30-08: Sent NYU, with AnBryce and RTK essays. Got an extra LOR to go with the RTK application. Two left...

10-31-08: Sent Stanford. One of my very top choices... whew.

Email from Harvard -- phone interview -- I'm so excited!

11-3-08: Sent off Yale. That was hard . Now my part of the cycle is over -- I just have to wait.

11-4-08: Toby Stock interview. I think it went OK. Waiting game.

11-10-08: Got OU scholarship offer. $17k/year, which is a little more than full tuition (at today's rates). Very generous.

11-22-08: In at DUKE! Email from Bill Hoye at around 3 PM on Saturday. Non-priority track.

11-25-08: BEST DAY EVER! First, call from HARVARD at 11:30 AM. Then, at 7:20 PM, call from BERKELEY.

11-26-08: Mordecai invite from Duke -- so now I need to schedule an interview. If I get it, it would be full tuition over three years... nice. I can see that working for me. :)

11-28-08: Decision at Michigan. Used the TLS link to hack in and figure out I've been admitted.

12-5-08: Decision at Cornell. Still haven't received Michigan's packet, which makes me wonder if it got lost in the mail. Or if someone stole it for the memory stick, which in our neighborhood, is a possibility.

12-6-08: Got Michigan's packet, with the very nice video.

12-8-08: In at Cornell. Invite to apply for Dean's Scholarship, which is $35k/year. Nice. We'll have to plan a trip to Ithaca to investigate.

12-11-08: Picked up my Harvard "packet" at the post office. It was originally delivered yesterday, but didn't fit in our box. Boy, didn't it! It's a two-inch binder full of information. Very snazzy.

12-12-08: In at Wash. U. Mentioned that I'm being considered for Scholars in Law award, but I don't know how many $$$ that is.

12-13-08: In at Notre Dame, w/$22k/year scholarship. Small envelope -- thought I was getting WLed. :)

12-18-08: Received the NICEST call from Liesa Richter at OU. I had a scholarship deadline of December 19, but I know I'm not headed to OU, so I withdrew. Hopefully this frees up the money for other folks -- and I tell you, those headed to OU Law are lucky people. It sounds like a great place.

12-22-08: Darrow invite from Michigan. Need to write an essay for that!
Accepted to NYU -- large purple envelope.

1-6-09: Sent my Darrow essay. Should hear back in a couple of weeks. I'm starting to hear crickets chirping around here -- where are the rest of the decisions?

1-7-09: Ask and you shall receive. In at Virginia, via email asking me to call the director of admissions. Please, sir, may I have another?

1-8-09: Decision pending at Chicago. I'm tempted to think that's a "yes," but one never knows. LATER: In via phone call! I love Chicago. I'm tempted to ask for one more...

1-23-09: After no news for a while, a big one. In at STANFORD! Got a voicemail from Faye Deal and a follow-up email.

1-26-09: FULL DARROW AT MICHIGAN. Got a voicemail from Dean Zearfoss and called her back. I'm sort of in shock. Free law school? Really?

2-21-09: Held at Columbia. Kind of surprised. I'll be annoyed if they screw up my cycle -- but I'm sitting on Harvard/Stanford acceptances, as well as a Darrow. I'll probably just withdraw.

2-24-09: Withdrew from several schools. I'm holding out to see what sort of financial aid I get from other schools.

Got an invite to interview for NYU's AnBryce Scholarship. Shoot. I was all set on Michigan, and then this. Don't know what to think, but I'm going to enjoy the all-expenses-paid trip to NYC after the interview at Justice Thomas' chambers at SCOTUS.

Later got an invite to interview for the RTK Scholarship at NYU. So off to NYC for me.

3-9-09: WashU was like "hey, want a full scholarship for Indian kids?" I withdrew. I never was "awarded" the scholarship, so I'm not listing it.

Can I say that NYU is killing me? I was set on Michigan. Now this. Of course, if awarded the scholarship, I'd have to seriously think about/pray about/discuss it. Crazy.

3-19-09: Withdrew from Berkeley -- my dad can breathe. Also Virginia. Just visited HLS -- loved it!

4-6-09: No dice on the RTK and AnBryce. Withdrew from NYU. Visited Michigan -- loved it too! Now I have to ask myself if I love both HLS and Michigan, why should I spend $110k on one when the other is free?

4-15-09: WL at Yale via email. I actually (to my own surprise) don't care. Visiting Stanford now -- it's a wonderful place.

4-27-09: Cycle over. Visited HLS one more time last night, and it didn't overcome the difference in finaid between HLS and SLS. I'm headed to Stanford.

I didn't apply official ED anywhere, just early action or very very early regular decision... are you leaning towards HLS? I am!

HLS
Friday, January 11 2008 at 07:00 PM

I know but I hear the LRAP is very decent... I feel the same way about the loans- however a 1L told me once I visit during ASW I won't be able to turn it down.

Wednesday, August 08 2007 at 08:00 PM

Actually, I'm not leaning towards either of them - I really like Minnesota and their new focus on indigenous law. Unless Berkeley comes through, we're heading to the frozen North. You set on Cambridge at this point?

Thx...

Good for you man! I can't help but be at little bit jealous, but hell, you earned every one of those acceptances. I predict that Yale will realize your extraordinary potential as well! Best of luck making a decision, as I'm sure it will be one of the hardest you've ever made.
