I'd go to Illinois over Depaul in a heart beat. I love that Depaul is in city (even if it is very close to boys town) but if you want to work in Chicago U. of I is a lot better plus you get to watch the Illini kick butt! Also it's not that far from Chicago. I've made that trip many times on a Friday for a weekend back home. Plus it's only 12 dollars why limit yourself?
I'm glad you like my blog. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me sane on the law school front. I hope you hear back from Texas soon! Where are you leaning? PS - Colossians 3:23 is one of my very favorite verses!
I'll probably be at SMU in the fall. Flying to Dallas on Wednesday to visit and check out the area. I just wrote a review on a documentary I watched. You should check out the movie, it's on Netflix. It's called "A Lawyer Walks Into a Bar..." -- a word to the wise, it will probably make you panic a little about the bar exam, though! :)
You are my twin!! Congrats on Texas- I'm still in shock too :) Where do you think you'll go??
Agreed! I'm in the same position- sticker price really is extremely high and I need to do some serious catch up work learning about the school and the area. Again, it's in a different league from the rest of my options so it would be rough to turn down. What are your thoughts? Are you going to visit?
Congrats on UT!!! I can't believe I got in either. I had totally given up and they called me out of the blue. I think I finally found a reason to pass on the BAMA scholarship
Congrats on UT! That's so exciting! I'm a huge believer in taking the chance on something you weren't expecting...everything happens for a reason! I'm sure you'll love it and it will turn out great. Def excited to be moving to the lone star state!
Hey. there are a number of reasons why I think Northwestern waitlisted me. First, I applied early. Second, I spent at least 5 months working on my personal statement and I had various people tweak it (i.e. recent law grads, my cousins who are law professors that have previously been adcomms, and my dad who went to HBS). Third, I had great LORs, spefically from professors, who went to top law schools, who could attest my ability to be successful in law school. Lastly, I had a great 1st interview with an alumnus, who like me, was originally from SoCal and wanted to move to Chicago for Northwestern. She was really impressed by all of the law related classes that I had taken and my understanding of the material. I also had an internship with an entertainment lawyer. My advice to you is to dig deep and find something that separates you from other applicants because everyone who applies to law school is smart and most likely hard working. They want to see that you are a leader and someone who will represent the school well as an alumnus. Take the time volunteer if you can. Good luck. I can e-mail you my LOCI if you want.
