Additional info & updates

08/09/11 I'm officially moved in in Austin. Looks like my cycle is over...HOOK EM HORNS! I'm unbelievably grateful for the opportunity to attend such an incredible school. With my numbers & out-of-state status, there's NO WAY I got into UT on my own. Trying now to get settled & get ready to go in a couple of weeks!

07/27/2012 Still haven't signed a lease in Austin. Roommate is back. (Vanderbilt, that little update is for you. No seriously.)

06/12/11 Officially a Lawhorn :) Can't wait to move to Austin!!!

06/09/11 Just withdrew from UGA. Can't believe this is really happening!

06/07/11 Withdrawing other acceptances this week.

05/02/11 I just woke up and felt okay about everything. Unless I hate it on my visit or get off the waitlist at Vanderbilt, it's looking like Austin in the fall!

05/01/11 Seat deposits paid all around. Deposits due at Vandy tomorrow, so should see SOME WL movement in the next couple of weeks. Can't decide is an understatement.

04/20/11 Gameplan: Buying time with seat deposits, planning visits to Vanderbilt & Texas, and then ignoring the decision until the middle of May. Maybe the right decision will come when I revisit it after a mental break. Trip to DC=perfect distraction!

04/12/11 Waitlisted at Vanderbilt. Sent the letter to my house. Not happy about that. Vandy admissions, meet your new best friend.

04/11/11 IN AT TEXAS. HOLY CRAP. !!!!!!! I'm still shaking. I didn't even think this was a remote possibility. Game-changer.

04/07/11 Decision mailed at Vandy. FREAKING. OUT.

03/30/11 REALLY confused between UGA & Alabama. Full visit to Athens this coming week. Should probably start doing my current work in the meantime.

03/24/11 Decided to go to ASD at Alabama also, so 2 days of back-to-back law school comparison. Excited! Still no word from Nashville. Come onnnnn Vandy!

03/22/11 Alabama just upped my scholarship...more than full tuition now. Free law school? Tough to pass up.

03/21/11 Scholarship increase from UGA! Now I'm even more excited for ASD on Saturday. Stillll waiting on Vandy (and Texas).

03/19/11 Awkward convo w/Vandy admissions...noncommittal on when I'll hear something.

03/01/11 Withdrew from DePaul. Someone really wants that spot.

02/28/11 Out at UVA. Got a really considerate e-mail from the Dean of Admissions. Just FYI--7500 out of state apps, 650 in-state apps, & 350 spots. Honestly, not that disappointed.

02/27/11 My file still isn't complete at Texas, even though they've had everything for 3 weeks.

02/23/11 Acceptance letter & "Tuition Equalizing Scholarship" at UGA...means I only pay in-state. Lady said this is "negotiable." Don't worry, we'll be negotiating :) Hoping for SOMETHING from UVA, Vandy, and/or Texas soon. I want to start making decisions.

02/19/11 I may be done with apps. I want to stay Southeast/Texas, and I've applied to all the best schools in that area that also interest me. Any Top 20 school that isn't a T14 isn't in the south, so it's looking like more of a waiting game with those 3. There's no point in applying anywhere "less good" than UGA (28)/Alabama (38). Slimmer app pool than expected but I'm okay with that.

02/18/11 In at UGA! Don't know if I got money yet. In fact, I'm not even sure I've received the official "Acceptance e-mail," but I got one linking me to the Class of 2014 website and congratulating me in a "we've already told you you're in; here's more info" kind of way (which they haven't, but whatever.)

01/11 Sent UGA and Texas apps. Now we've heard from Alabama and DePaul, waiting on UGA, UVA, UT, and Vandy.

01/11 In at Alabama! With basically a full ride. Still have a few apps to send though.

01/11 Interview with Vandy alum went well. Great salesman for the school, and he seemed to think I would fit in. Dear Admissions: Please agree.

01/11 Sent Alabama, Vandy, and Virginia Apps. Probably will get into Alabama, but denials are legitimately possible at the other two. Here's to praying otherwise.

01/11 In at DePaul! With $75,000 over 3 years. First acceptance is always good.

12/21/10 Sent my first app!!! It's to DePaul in Chicago. I had a fee waiver, and I'm not getting in anywhere else in Chicago, so why not? Seriously, can we get a "Top 50-but-not-Top-14" law school in Chicago? Thanks.

Early 2010--Decided to stay at my UG institution for Grad School. Wanted another football season, some more expertise in my major. Here's to the 2011 cycle!

11/03/09 Working on applications. Some of them are killing me- 600 word personal statement limits do NOT make me want to apply to your law school. And neither do "Why (Insert School Here)?" essays. I'm applying to your school, so why do you want an extra essay from me? Two recommendations are in the mail to LSAC and personal statement is (finally!) finished. Third rec requested; hopefully it will be completed by next week.

10/22/09 After coming out of my severe depression over my new LSAT score (my average is the same), I've come to terms with where I can legitimately apply. A lot of people would love to be in my position so I guess I can't complain. Fee Waivers at Notre Dame, Minnesota, Cincinnati, South Carolina, UHouston, etc. My inbox is exploding! (Note to some T3 & 4 schools- please make sure your auto-formatting works correctly before sending e-mails. It doesn't help the credibility of your school when what should be apostrophes turn out to be "?"s in the e-mail. Not professional.)

Hey. there are a number of reasons why I think Northwestern waitlisted me. First, I applied early. Second, I spent at least 5 months working on my personal statement and I had various people tweak it (i.e. recent law grads, my cousins who are law professors that have previously been adcomms, and my dad who went to HBS). Third, I had great LORs, spefically from professors, who went to top law schools, who could attest my ability to be successful in law school. Lastly, I had a great 1st interview with an alumnus, who like me, was originally from SoCal and wanted to move to Chicago for Northwestern. She was really impressed by all of the law related classes that I had taken and my understanding of the material. I also had an internship with an entertainment lawyer. My advice to you is to dig deep and find something that separates you from other applicants because everyone who applies to law school is smart and most likely hard working. They want to see that you are a leader and someone who will represent the school well as an alumnus. Take the time volunteer if you can. Good luck. I can e-mail you my LOCI if you want.

I'd go to Illinois over Depaul in a heart beat. I love that Depaul is in city (even if it is very close to boys town) but if you want to work in Chicago U. of I is a lot better plus you get to watch the Illini kick butt! Also it's not that far from Chicago. I've made that trip many times on a Friday for a weekend back home. Plus it's only 12 dollars why limit yourself?

Thanks for reading!

I'm glad you like my blog. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me sane on the law school front. I hope you hear back from Texas soon! Where are you leaning? PS - Colossians 3:23 is one of my very favorite verses!

Probably SMU

I'll probably be at SMU in the fall. Flying to Dallas on Wednesday to visit and check out the area. I just wrote a review on a documentary I watched. You should check out the movie, it's on Netflix. It's called "A Lawyer Walks Into a Bar..." -- a word to the wise, it will probably make you panic a little about the bar exam, though! :)

Twin!

You are my twin!! Congrats on Texas- I'm still in shock too :) Where do you think you'll go??

UT

Agreed! I'm in the same position- sticker price really is extremely high and I need to do some serious catch up work learning about the school and the area. Again, it's in a different league from the rest of my options so it would be rough to turn down. What are your thoughts? Are you going to visit?

Congrats on UT!!! I can't believe I got in either. I had totally given up and they called me out of the blue. I think I finally found a reason to pass on the BAMA scholarship

CONGRATS!!

Congrats on UT! That's so exciting! I'm a huge believer in taking the chance on something you weren't expecting...everything happens for a reason! I'm sure you'll love it and it will turn out great. Def excited to be moving to the lone star state!
