Worked full-time for a non-profit for a year, and working full-time as a legal assistant/supoprt clerk at a mid-size (over 60 attorneys) law firm for 1.5 years. Slacked off first two years in college, upward trend in the last two years. Major GPA significantly higher than UGPA -- I'm definitely not a science or math person. Hoping good softs and a good PS can make up for one or two blemishes on my app.

Good luck to all! (Scholarship totals are per year).

Additional info & updates

11/3: Gearing up to get a majority of my applications out by Thanksgiving. Just made the 11/1 cut off for Santa Clara EA. I kind of feel like if I apply everywhere then at least I'll get in somewhere.

11/17: Almost all my applications are out. I sent fee waiver requests to almost everywhere I wanted to apply, and got almost all of them. Saved some $$.

11/23: Associate Dean at U Ark called to discuss my application today, wanted me to submit a supplemental "Why Arkansas" essay. Okay!

11/29: USC Status Checker updated to Decision Letter Sent.

12/1: Accepted at Akron via phone call. I'm counting my first decision as an acceptance, because I haven't gotten the USC letter yet! YAY!

12/2: DePaul Status Checker updated to Decision Rendered. Should hear from them in the next few hours. 12 HOURS LATER: In at DePaul via Status Checker!

12/3: Letter (small envelope) in the mail from South Carolina...I'm in!!

12/9: Decision Rendered and Letter Mailed at UK. It looks like (from TLS updates) I might be out. First rejection = harsh.

12/13: Decision rendered at Ole Miss, letter in the mail (according to an email I got this morning). LATER: I guess they sent it out last week, because I got the letter this afternoon. Dinged at Ole Miss and UK via snail mail.

12/14: AHHH!!! Still says "In Committee" on my SCU status checker, but I have a "Decision Letter Mailed" under my mailings. I'll be on pins and needles until it gets here!!!

12/16: My letter hasn't arrived yet, but...I'M IN AT SANTA CLARA! Yay, secret top choice!! (I didn't want to jinx it). Also, got an email today from Marquette saying that I should have received my acceptance by now. Well, that's good news. In at Marquette PT.

12/17: Sent my supplements to UArk, got an email from the dean saying my acceptance letter would be mailed out next week. In at UArk - Fayetteville. Also: got my letter and scholarship offer from SCU - $15,500!

12/20: Letter received from UArk. $4,000 per semester (weirdest way I've seen scholarships described).

12/23: Merry Christmas to me from Whittier! In via email today! Got a second email asking me to call them to discuss my interest in Whittier for consideration for a merit scholarship. Odd.

12/30: Didn't check any of my status checkers at all over the last week (how liberating). Checked today -- in at Phoenix as of 12/23.

12/31: Email from Whittier Financial Aid...$26k for the first year, with a weird tiered requirement for finaid for all following years (top 5% get full ride, top 10% get 3/4 etc.)

1/10: Haven't been checking status checkers at all in the last week. Dinged at Texas Tech (surprised) via small envelope, Case Western by email today.

1/16: Emailed just before midnight (PST) on a Sunday -- in at UALR.

1/20: Decision Rendered at Western State. Based on new "requirements" and "tuition deposit" sections, I'm pretty sure I'm in. LATER: IN at Western State via phone call.

1/21: In at Cal Western via small envelope. In at Dayton via phone call.

1/24: Waitlisted at Wake via email and status checker. "Hold for further Review" at Campbell, but they said specifically that it's not a WL, so I don't know how to qualify it. Scholarship offer(s) from UALR - In-State Tuition ($11.6k) PLUS an $18k merit scholarship...WOW!

1/31: In at SMU via status checker!!! According to TLS, people who called got news that admit packages will contain $$ info, and will come in next week.

2/4: Scholarship offer from Cal Western today via mail. $15k per year, contingent on keeping GPA above 80% (3.0). Scholarship offer from Thomas Jefferson, too...$20k per year, contingent on staying in top 30%.

2/6: Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Will probably withdraw from Marquette, Thomas Jefferson, Phoenix, Western State, and maybe one or two more in the upcoming week.

2/7: In at STCL via email. Also, withdrew my application at Penn State...whether I would have gotten in or not, I wouldn't have gone, so I decided just to take it out of the running.

2/9: Withdrew from Thomas Jefferson and Phoenix.

2/11: Got my scholarship offer from Dayton via mail. $11k/year. Withdrawing. Withdrew from Iowa. Also, decided to withdraw from Samford, but got dinged this morning via email (haha). ALSO: scholarship package from SMU came in today: $21,557/year!

2/14: Got a call from Western State saying I would get $20k/year contingent on maintaining a 2.6. Probably going to withdraw by March.

2/23: Withdrew from Western State today.

2/24: Scholarship of $17k/year (renewable), and stipend of $12k (non-renewable) from Akron.

2/25: Went "Decision Rendered 2/24" at USF today. Doesn't matter how many times that happens, I always get nervous.

2/28: Waitlisted at USF via small envelope. Will be withdrawing.

3/4: Decision Rendered for Baylor's summer start. Admitted via email hours later (but seat deposit due in 10 days). ALSO: Spent today at the Legal Scholars Day at McGeorge. Observations and thoughts are posted on my blog!

3/7: Withdrew from Marquette.

3/14: Withdrew from UArk, University of Memphis and Texas Wesleyan (hadn't gotten a decision yet, not a single status update since Nov. 2!).

3/15: Waitlisted at Southwestern via email -- will withdraw tomorrow. Accepted at McGeorge via personal email from Dean Barrett.

3/18: Rejected at Campbell after being held for further review. This has been the strangest cycle ever!

3/19: Went to the Santa Clara ASW this weekend. Observations and thoughts are posted on my blog! http://twentysomethinglaw.blogspot.com

3/23: Got my admit packet from McGeorge...$7,500 per year as long as I stay in the top 1/3.

3/24: Withdrew from STCL after receiving my scholarship offer two days ago.

3/25: Withdrew from Akron and DePaul.

3/26: Rejected from Irvine by snail mail (small envelope). Duh.

4/1: Attended the SMU Admitted Students Day, and made it official!!!!!! I submitted my first deposit to SMU and will OFFICIALLY be a Mustang in the Fall! YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

4/4: My blog entry on the SMU ASD is up on my blog for anyone who's interested!

4/6: Since my cycle has officially drawn to a close, I think I'll be doing most of my updating via my blog. Don't worry, I'll still check comments here, but you should stop by the blog to check it out! http://twentysomethinglaw.blogspot.com.

YAF Intern? Pretty cool. Great place from which to get speakers. I'll have to echo the math/science thing. Argh, damn distribs.

good luck!

Thanks for your note. I hope you get acceptances! Looks like you really want to stay in Cali. We may end up at the same school! Keep us posted.

Tuesday, October 05 2010 at 08:00 PM

Wow, you weren't kidding when you said we had virtually identical numbers! It's interesting that with our numbers, we both applied to UCI. I think our LSAT's are somewhere in the 25th%. It's probably my biggest reach, but I just had to. Good luck - I'll be keeping an eye on where you get in!

I'd like to stay in-state, mainly because I think it'd be easier to network. But, I'll pretty much go wherever financial aid takes me : ) How about you?

Marquette
Monday, August 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

I have also applied to the part time program at Marquette! Hopefully we will hear soon!

Congrats!
Sunday, October 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

On DePaul! I think Connecticut is my first choice, followed by Northeastern and perhaps St. John's. What's yours?

DePaul WL
Sunday, October 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

Think I'm going to ride it out for a little while, at least. Is Santa Clara your first choice?

Heard anything yet?? Im stillll waiting!!

Marquette
Monday, August 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

I am too. It seems as though everyone on LSN that went complete around the same time as us have already heard, good or bad.. so I dont know what to think at this point..maybe applying to the part time program has something to do with it?

Thursday, September 24 2009 at 08:00 PM

How did you not get into Kentucky or Miss? That's crazy, your LSAT is awesome!

Tuesday, October 05 2010 at 08:00 PM

That is awesome - congrats! I may see you there in the fall!

SCU
Sunday, October 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

Congrats! I noticed you got in earlier on TLS--so happy for you! The more I've learned about the school the more it's climbing up my list! Also, I work with an attorney here in Boston who went there-when he heard I applied he started telling me all about the school and area-nothing but good things-and told me he'd put in a good word for me. So I'm crossing my fingers. Wish I would have applied earlier. Maybe I'll see you in sunny Cali in the fall!

Marquette WL
Monday, August 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

That would be awesome! I appreciate you withdrawing if you are not interested, I know a lot of people hang on to acceptances and it is stressful for us on the waitlist!! Good luck with the rest of your cycle and congrats again on Marquette!!!

Congrats! See you next fall? :)

Congrats!
Wednesday, October 27 2010 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations! I saw you got into your "secret" top choice school. That's wonderful! I'm sure you will be attending there unless there is another choice that accepts you. I wish you the very best. Looking forward to hearing more good things for you! Best of luck.

Emery Merit
Thursday, June 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

The Emery Merit is renewable, but only if you place in the top 15-20% of the class. Don't think I need that added pressure to do well! Congrats and best of luck.

Just read your blog on calling schools. I feel your malaise... I called one of my top choices today after rehearsing how to politely ask WTF they have been doing with my application for 5 months??? I don't know what I expected, but I got what I deserved - the admissions secretary telling me to just keep checking my status checker... Thanks. That went well.

Saturday, February 28 2009 at 07:00 PM

love the blog! (yeah...waiting on schools has made me so crazy i'm reading any & everything that has to do with law school, including a copy of the "Alabama Law Review" that they sent me in the mail) good luck on your decision! i vote SMU, and as someone from a state where people "talk funny," it's wayyy better than you think living in the south.

Saturday, February 28 2009 at 07:00 PM

hey no problem! i thought about keeping one (i have one but it's mostly not law school-related). and i'm totally going crazy too. just want answers. Colossians 3:23 is going to be my theme verse in the fall...where are you thinking at this point?

Saturday, February 28 2009 at 07:00 PM

that's awesome! i almost applied to SMU, but i got into some more "southeastern" schools quickly and didn't need to. i might skip the bar movie for now. I don't need anything else to scare me ab law school quite yet! haha i'll have to read about the visit! i'm agonizing over UGA vs. Alabama right now (and waiting on Vandy. geeeez)

SMU ASD
Wednesday, December 22 2010 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your decision! The ASD really solidified it for me also. I think it was the combination of the contracts class and Hamburger Man that did me in. Although I must say it was intimidating being a minority in the sorta Aryan Nation setting.

Perhaps, there is a 50% chance it was me. There were only two Asian people. There is also a 50% chance we will be in the same group of 90 1Ls. And there is a 100% chance I will attend a pub crawl.

Probably...
Saturday, February 13 2010 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, I think STCL is probably where I will end up. I'm from Houston, and live here now, so the commute wouldn't be too bad. I see that you will be attending SMU in the fall. You are incredibly lucky as that is a phenomenal school and places well throughout the state. Great job :)

Hey Stranger!
Sunday, October 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

Looks like I'm going to be at Suffolk this fall - just haven't put the little "A" up yet. Congrats on SMU! I guess Santa Clara did quite work out for either of us. You should have applied to some Boston schools!

Sunday, October 17 2010 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, congrats to both of us! I've already found a new place close to Suffolk and cannot wait for the fall! Hit me up on FB--I probably won't be on here all that much in the near future.

P.S.
Saturday, February 13 2010 at 07:00 PM

Saturday, February 28 2009 at 07:00 PM

hey! just wanted to let you know...i think i'm headed to Austin (as long as I don't hate it when I visit). Not really logical from a financial standpoint, but sometimes you have to jump off a ledge, right? Woohoo for the state of Texas!

YES!
Saturday, February 13 2010 at 07:00 PM

It feels absolutely marvelous :) And good luck to you as well. I hope you have a very successful 3 years at SMU!!!
