Additional info & updates

Have been working at non-profit African-American oral history archive for over a year. Concentrated on African-American literature and culture within major. Wrote honors thesis about feminism in 1920s blues music.

More law school related background: my LSAT (Oct 2005) is a good 4-6 points lower than what I consistently scored in practice (typical), but I was in an honors program at Northwestern, got great recs and wrote a great statement--so I decided to give it a whirl.

01/23: Had a phone interview with a Cornell admissions committee member today--sounds like I'm on the fence there but she wants to push me over to the good side. This may involve an evaluative interivew with the dean of admissions. Yikes.

01/30: Offered a Dean's scholarship at Cardozo--looks like it covers half tuition and requires a 3.3 GPA

02/09: Accepted to Cornell! Got an e-mail saying envelope will arrive in the next 10 days.

02/11: Rejected from Columbia. At least I think I am. They said they were "unable to take favorable action" on my application, This could just mean they failed to make an origami crane out of it. But I'm assuming rejection.

02/13: Rejected from Michigan. Thin envelope. Not inscrutably worded a la Columbia.

02/14: Accepted to Fordham...found out via e-mail; envelope is on its way. I'd be more excited if I weren't already in at Cornell.

02/18: Accepted to Minnesota; snail mail. Won't be able to visit by late April, and by then I will probably have already decided.

02/24: Received my Georgetown rejection letter in the mail. I sort of shot off that app at the last minute, so I'm not surprised. After looking at the graphs I'm a bit miffed that I wasn't waitlisted or deferred, but I guess that's what happens when you don't apply early. Only 2 more sure rejections to go...wonder what's taking so long at NYU?

02/25; Rejected at NYU...so goes my unrealistic hope. It's going to be Cornell unless I really don't like my visit, which is not likely considering I was born and raised in Ithaca.

03/04: Rejected at Harvard...no surprise.

Next step is visits. I'll be at Cornell for the March 10th day.

03/10-03/11: Visited Cornell and loved it. It's my solid #1 choice, but I'm waiting on committing until I visit everywhere.

03/23-03/29: Visited Cardozo, GW, and Fordham. I liked them all, but Cornell is still tops. Should be making my decision soon...

04/03: Dropped my first seat deposit for Cornell in the mail. In the process of withdrawing everywhere except for Northwestern...I think I'd still like to have that option if possible.

I've yet to hear from 8 schools, so I really have no idea where I'll end up! Guess I might as well put those other ones up there...

on the acceptance at Cornell, I can only hope that the same thing happens to me. Our numbers are different, but our we both are a 3.3 index.... my fingers are crossed!

Congrats on Cornell. Did anything happen between the phone call and the acceptance or was that the last you heard?

how did you happen to have a phone interview with Cornell? Is that something one can do, or did you have a contact?
