Additional info & updates

GULC: Checked both FT and PT boxes.

Not sure when W&L, GW, UCLA went complete so I list when LSDAS reports went out.

GULC--12/2: Reg white envelope with single page, Preferred Waiting List. Says nothing about FT or PT. I'll assume PT with my #s.
TEXAS--12/5: Online Status Check, then reg white envelope, single page, ding!
CORNELL--12/19: Reg white envelope with one page & reply post card, deferred.
GW--12/20: Reg creamy envelope with single page.
MICH--12/27: Reg white envelope with single page, deferred.
KENT--1/7: Email from the Dean, letter on the wing.
KENT--1/9: Reg white envelope, official offer and $.
WUSTL--1/17: Reg white envelope, three pages.
VANDY--2/24: Reg white envelope, single page letter & reply form.
HASTINGS--3/17: Email. WTF, I'm the waitlist king.
W&L--4/3: Reg white, two pages. This is pretty funny.
MICH--4/10: Regular white, single page. Ding and...
CORNELL--4/10: ding. Regular white, single page.
UCLA--4/17: Called to check status: waitlisted. Bit of a surprise. That's six.
W&L, HASTINGS--4/19: Withdrew by email.
UIUC--4/27: Call from Paul Pless.
UIUC--5/1: Big white packet from UIUC.
UCLA--5/6: Reg envelope. Waitlist letter and reply page.
GULC--5/10: Email saying WL is slow this year and they'll have a better idea after June 1 deposit deadline, do I want to wait. I said sure.
USC--5/20: Yeah. Regular Envelope. W/drawing on Monday, USC's timeline is too damn late.
WUSTL--5/31: Paid 2nd deposit so it's WUSTL unless GULC, Vandy, UCLA comes thru.
VANDY--6/6: Called their waitlist guy, several hundred people on the WL. Doesn't look promising.
GULC--6/7: Email saying they aren't able to take from the WL yet. They'll give another update in early July.
GW--6/19: Received letter saying they won't be able to pull any more studs from the WL this year. Not too interested in GW anyway, in fact I'd forgot them.
GULC--7/6: Not able to take any off the WL yet. Another update August 1.
UCLA--7/14: Learned via email that they've gone to the WL twice already for about 10 people each time. They may or may not take another dip after some 7/28 deposit deadline.
GULC--8/1: Email from Cornblatt saying they are shutting down part of their PWL. I assumed that meant me.
VANDY--8/1: Call from Vandy offering a spot in the class. Accepted on the spot.
GULC--8/4: Email saying that I was not on the part of the PWL that was shut down and am still under consideration if a spot opens. At this point I'm committed to Vandy.
UCLA--8/28: Rejected from WL by mail.

Are you applying anywhere else? I was thinking about submitting a few more "reach" apps although it's getting late in the cycle...

teddymoney cannot follow directions.

No, I\\\'m done. And anyway, I feel like I\\\'m reaching at most of these schools. If I were you I\\\'d shoot a couple apps to the 10-18 range, Vandy, etc. My motto is like lotto, you got to be in it to win it!

Do you know what the preferred wait list means exactly compared to the regular wait list? GL with the rest of your apps.

preferred WL

According to the letter, it sounds like a small group (unranked) above the regular waitlist (ranked) that "we would like to include in our first year class." I should hear again in May, once they get a better idea of the class size. I don't know, it sounds somewhat promising, you just have to wait a few months.

sorry about UT

It is probably better than being strung along on false hope like me. I hope USC beats those fools down.

good luck with G-town

number twins

We are number twins (what a weird term!), though with very different areas of interest! Good luck! I left you a message regarding EA reserve on my profile.

Re: Cornell

When I talked to the admissions office they made it sound like EA Reserve decisions would be handed out before decisions for regular applicants. However, I don't know if this means I'll be compared to RD applicants or not.

Cornell interview
Sunday, January 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

They contacted me. One of the committee members found my app. intriguing, and I suppose was able to convince her that my LSAT was lower than it should be (that was the first thing she asked about). Someone who went through the 03-04 cycle told me that Cornell randomly interviews about 10% of people they are likely to accept anyway, to make sure they'll actually come to Ithaca. Not a problem for me, since I'm a townie.

Tks!

For the advice. Yeah, I agree that reputation wise they are very similar, though not identical. The only factors influencing me now are personal since my SO is in Ohio.

Smart...

I wish I would have applied as early as you! Congrats on your acceptances and I'm sure some of those waitlists will come through for you.

On Vandy WL
Wednesday, March 08 2006 at 07:00 PM

They didn't tell me anything about what motivated them to accept me. I hadn't even sent them my letter of continued interest yet! I'm just as surprised as you are. If you get off the WL will you go there over Washington?
