Additional info & updates

FSU acceptance in letter-sized envelope, follow-up phone call a few days later. Was invited to fill out a separate scholarship application and received $4000 non-renewable for the first year.

IU acceptance by email, Dean's scholarship- $14,100 per year. Acceptance letter through Priority Mail several days later with hand-written congratulations letter from dean.

Stetson acceptance in big envelope. Full scholarship offer came in March.

GW acceptance- email from Dean Stanek.

Notre Dame acceptance by email. I never received a complete notice, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Fordham deferral by mail. I did not send in the letter of continuing interest, so I thought I thought that meant that they would withdraw me. I got a rejection instead, which isn't surprising since I showed no continued interest.

Emory acceptance in big white envelope with confetti/streamer design on it.

Duke Waitlist came by mail. I applied for for the dual JD/LLM starting in June. It took them a full 6-7 weeks to realize that I asked to stay on the waitlist for summer session only.

WUSTL waitlist came by mail, but I am not staying on.

Cornell deferral by mail. Letter says I should expect to hear more news by late May, at which point they'll either reject, WL, or accept me. Update- put onto the waitlist in Mid-June, withdrew immediately.

W&M waitlist by mail. I am withdrawing.

Got email from Harvard on 4/4 saying my dean's certification was still not in- wtf?

Vandy WL by mail, withdrew ASAP.

Why law?

Just curious why you are pursuing law with your Education degree. I am trying to convince my SO to do the same (with his art degree).

Still better than my last name

No one can pronounce it, even though it looks EXACTLY like it sounds. Yep, hooked on phonics worked for me.

Congratulations

on George Washington!! Whats your top choice?

Top Choices

Duke and Cornell are my top choices right now, but I am not holding my breath.

any money

from FSU?

FSU
Saturday, November 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

FSU requires a separate scholarship application which I was invited to fill out after being accepted. I still haven't heard back yet, but it seems like the only people eligible were invited and had to turn in the app by January 3.

good luck!

I just wanted to say good luck. you and I have almost identical numbers and degrees. We also have the same top choices. I hope to have the same good luck you seem to be having!

My Cornell interview
Sunday, January 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the good wish on my profile. To answer your question, the person with whom I interviewed did call me back, although she only left a voicemail. Basically she said that she had talked to the rest of the committee and pointed out the strong parts of my application, although she didn't give any hints about whether that meant acceptance, waitlist, or whatever. I guess I just lucked out with someone who look an interest in my application. Good luck to you, I hope you get in too!

GW

You were right about GW. I'm really glad to have choices. I didn't apply to the dual program at Duke because I didn't have time to do the additional essay. I hope to hear good news from Cornell and/or Duke at some point. *fingers crossed*. in regards to the supplemental materials--I didn't have any extra transcripts or anything, but they said to send anything you thought would help your application. I had my mentor at Harvard write an additional letter of rec and I wrote a letter of continued interest explaining what I've been doing in my time off. Good luck! I"m pulling for both of us :)

Cornell/ND

I think you have a great shot at Cornell! We have similar numbers and I got in. :) I'll be going there next so I'll give you a heads up. I withdrew from a bunch of schools already but ND, Cornell and BU are my current picks. Of course, Penn could just admit me and make it easier. :P

Stetson Scholarship
Saturday, November 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

Stetson gives out scholarships based on the pool as a whole, so PT students have an equal chance of getting full scholarships. It's tuition only over the course of the full 4 years.

Re: ND

i agree that everyone at ND is very welcoming. i think at the moment i'm 60/40 in favor of bc, but one of the ND alumni has been very effective in promoting ND law. i wonder if it's a sign that everyone is promoting ND to me... i don't know what's up with vandy and w&m, and usc, too. but i don't think i have a prayer of getting into any of them, so i haven't been really keeping track. good luck with the rest of your decisions!

yup

Looks like Vandy and Harvard are both holding out on us. I just called Harvard and was told my file had been "reviewed" but a decision hadn't been made yet. I dunno what that means, but I'm bettin' rejection based on my numbers. No reply to my email to Vandy yet. Anyway. I guess I'll just settle for being excited about Wake. Congrats on ND, btw! :o)

Vandy WL?!

Oy. Dummies. But no matter, you've got a lovely waiting in the wings. :o) At least you've had contact. Hmph.
