Extra Curricular Information

i don't know if there is anything in my application that screams out "great future law student", but I think my resume makes me look like a pretty cool person at least. not the president of anything. no publications. no national scholarships. lots of interesting activities though.

Additional info & updates

Decision dates are the dates on the letters, not the day they arrived in my mailbox

I got the famous Toby Stock phone call on 12/18/05 ( a sunday). I don't know if I'll get in or not. so keep your fingers crossed for me.

William and mary just offered in-state tuition plus $4000/year. not going to take it, but it is a nice feeling to be deired

In at Chicago by email. No call. A letter came by US mail a few days later

Rejected at Stanford. first (and hopefully only) one of the season. Not cool.

Defered at Harvard. It seems like they're doing this to everyone who's not an autoadmit, so i think i'm ok with it. I am going to write the best "please let me in" essay that they will ever read.

In at USC by mail with a mention that I have been chosen as a "scholarship nominee". They seem pretty serious about wanting to make sure I'm really interested before making a concrete offer about the money.

Columbia by mail. big envelope. Sent on 1/23. but recieved on 1/28 because apparnetly mail takes a long time to get to me. I'm pretty excited about this one. It'll probably be my top choice unless Harvard comes though for me.

rejected at yale by mail. letter dated 2/2 but arrived on 2/6. thats what i get for sending them a pretty bad 250. i'm really just waiting on harvard now.

also on 2/6, a big box from Columbia. these guys are great for sending me so much stuff. i know everyone gets it, but its nice to feel like a school wants you.

3/3/06 scholarship offer from BYU. its $4100/yr which is half tuition. it's a little lame though because you have to stay in the top 1/3 of the class to keep it. i'm not sure if i'm that smart and would hate having that to worry about.

3/6/06 just offered 75k over three years at northwestern. pretty sweet. it really complicates things though because i was basically set on choosing between CCN and now there's this to think about. not sure what i'll do, but its a great offer and i'm obviously bery happy about it.

3/10/06 rejected at boalt. i didn't want to go there, but it's still sad to be rejected. looks like i now have almost no choice about leaving california.

3/13/06 scholarship offer at uchicago. 33,000 over the course of three years. i was pretty excited to get in at all, so this is pretty nice. letter was dated 3/9/06.

3/20/06 waitlisted at duke. i'm not going to take the spot on the list. i think i was WL'd because of the personal statement i sent. they asked that the ps specifically mention why duke and why law school (neither of which was mentioned in the ps i wrote for everyone else), so i wrote up one kinda quickly. it was pretty bogus, but i thought i'd get in just on the numbers. guess i was wrong, but i'm not upset about it at this point.

4-19-06 i guess i'm just waiting on harvard now. its been that way for a little while. if that doesn't go my way then i'll be at columbia in the fall which i'm pretty excited about.

4-21-06 scholarship from columbia came. 25000 total, split 10, 10, 5. pretty sweet considering that i was going to go there anyway.

5/2/06 I sent my deposit to Columbia a few days ago. I think that I have probably been withrawn by the adcomms everywhere else for missing their deadlines. i'm still waiting on harvard, but of course that is (and always was) a long shot. now that their deadline has passed maybe they will find room in their class for a few more people.

5/31/06 I am sick of thinking about all this stuff. too long of a wait Mr. Stock, too long.

Did you get a letter or a phone call? Congratulations! Good Luck with T. Stock!

withdraws?
Monday, December 05 2005 at 07:00 PM

yeah, i've definitely thought about withdrawing from a few schools. I could use the karma points. I'm just not sure where to withdraw from. So far, I'm only really interested in Chicago, Michigan, Virginia, NYU, and of course the ones I'm still waiting on. I want to withdraw from the others, but those are the ones that have offered me money and I want to keep those options around. I may withdraw from Georgetown and W&M pretty soon though.

congrats from a fellow Berkeleyite!

Well I guess Im just assuming you're from the school, but I'm rooting for you with HLS anyway. Congrats on CLS! It'd be swell to have more of a Cal presence in NYC.

come to Columbia

You'll like it! Are you coming to admitted students day? (that's what sold me...)

Since you're probably going to Columbia, it would be VERY helpful if you withdrew from BYU to open up room for the rest of us :)

yeah, i sent in a new letter of rec and a letter outlining what i;ve been doing since submmitting the app and saying i really want to go. i also sent in my last transcript, (which in restrospect might not have been the best thing to do). we'll see how it goes.

UCLA

Man I don\\\'t know what kind of show they\\\'re running down at UCLA but I can\\\'t believe you got waitlisted there. 3.5 in biochem is impressive at any school let alone Cal. I applied like 7 months ago and still no word.

HLS

yah, maybe a little. i can't help but wonder if i would be in right now if i had checked it. But i know i would feel bad if I took someone's spot. i'm not really disadvantaged and would rather have gotten in on my own rather than taking advantage of an unfair policy.
