2 years of full-time work...applied late last year (as in deadline missing late), so I decided to try again this year.

For the record, in the 04-05 cycle I got into Ohio State and GW, was waitlisted at Georgetown and UNC, and was shot-down by UVA and Duke. I took the December LSAT and thus didn't send out apps until last December/early January. I also had a problem getting my second LOR in and it didn't arrive at LSAC until early Feb, so I didn't go complete at Duke, UNC, UVA, or OSU until mid Feb. I was thiiiis close to going to GW, but decided to take a new job instead and give the application process another, more informed try.

Additional info & updates

12-1 - In at OSU per a phone call from admissions. Pretty quick decision, probably due to having applied and been admitted last year. Now for those others...

12-7 - In at GW for the second straight year. Received word via email. My Georgetown status changed to "decision" last Thursday, so it may be in the mailbox tonight. The status change was on my birthday, so if that's not a good omen, I don't know what is. But we shall see...

12-9 - My UVA status went to "decision" last night. From most accounts, it seems that I should pray for a phone call today. Still waiting on the Georgetown letter to arrive (thank you Brooklyn postal system). Not sure what to expect, though I'm realistic, having been WL'd at Georgetown and shot down at UVA last year.

12-12 - Got the Georgetown rejection letter Friday. The letter was dated 12-2 but post-marked 12-7, so apologies to the Brooklyn postal system for my earlier comment. The UVA deferral arrived Saturday, putting me into application purgatory. I'm guessing this is a sign of a future WL or rejection letter, but here's to hoping I'm wrong.

12-28 - $6500/year from OSU, meaning that, barring more money, I probably won't be going there. (As a clarifying note, I grew up and attended college in Ohio, but haven't lived there in a few years and thus am no longer a resident).

1-13 - Waitlisted at NW via email. I'm viewing this as a victory of sorts. Much better than a rejection. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, i.e., when people start getting accepted. Also, all of you who know you're going elsewhere, feel free to withdraw as soon as possible. Gracias.

2-14 - My UVA status has again changed to decision. Considering the current breakdown of admits to rejections here on LSN, I'm thinking that I'm in trouble. A lot of trouble. At this point, the hope is that I land on the waitlist. Also, it seems that Vandy admits are starting to pour out, so hopefully I can score one of those soon. I'm really, really hoping for an affirmative from them.

2-14 - In at Vandy, WOOHOO!!! (Letter, dated 2-10). Very excited. Ask and you shall receive.

2-16 - Tonight I received a rejection letter from UVA for the second straight year. I hope they make good use of the $135 I've sent their way over the past two years. But, honestly, I didn't expect to get in and the Vandy acceptence made my week anyway.

3-5 - Visited Northwestern this weekend. Sat in on a Con Law class, took a tour (the guide dropped an f-bomb at one point, which was awesome), and met with Courtney Desai from admissions. As far as the waitlist goes, she said that after they get deposits in April, they'll trim the waitlist, accepting a few, rejecting some, and shortened summer waitlisting the rest. She also added that it's possible they could admit a few before then. Overall, the visit was excellent, and I even met a fellow LSN/LSD addict. We spread the word about these sites to a fellow waitlister, so she'll probably be hooked to this neurotic world before long.

3-16 - After inquiring last week and then again today, I received an email offering a $12,000/year need-based grant from Vandy. This is a good thing, especially since I got my NeedAccess in late.

3-17 - The GW NYC admitted students reception was last night. Met a lot of quality people, admits and alums alike. Free booze and the ridiculous view from the Rainbow Room atop Rockafeller Center made it all the more enjoyable. However, having been pretty much set on Vandy (or the Northwestern waitlist, but who am I kidding?), last night made the decision a bit tougher again.

3-18 - Withdrew from Ohio State. Best of luck to those of you who go, you'll love it there. Undergrad was phenomenal. Go Bucks!

4-5 - I can hardly contain my excitement for visiting Vandy this weekend. My expectations are probably waaaay too high, but whatever. And what's the deal with USC? Not that it matters anymore.

4-9 - Count me in at Vandy. Somehow, the visit managed to exceed my ridiculously high expectations. To paraphase another LSNer, if you visit, you'd be nuts not to go. Almost everyone I met - prospectives, currents students, faculty, and staff - was awesome, the nightlife was a lot of fun, and the facility was tremendous. If I get into Northwestern, I'm going to have a quandry on my hands. But that would be a good problem.

5-20 - Waitlisted at USC and immediately withdrew. An ego hit; nothing more, nothing less.

6-15 - Shortened summer waitlist at Northwestern via email (LSN needs to add a "Waitlisted, Waitlisted" status) . Avoided the axe, good; may never get in, bad.

9-19 - In case anyone reads this anymore, Vandy Law is absolutely incredible. Better than I ever imagined.

They actually called me on my cell phone, leaving a message that said they wanted to "discuss my application." When I called back the guy (I forget his title) said "Congratulations" and ran me through the next steps. He also said that I'd get a snail mail acceptance too.

Waitlists
Wednesday, March 01 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm going to ride out the Duke waitlist... I don't think I'll stay on at Mich or NW since I think a degree from Vandy is gonna be better for practicing in the South. Maybe I'll go to Duke if they call but I doubt it.

Yep
Wednesday, March 01 2006 at 07:00 PM

That was me... yeah, I don't think I'd want to go to Michigan to be honest. Duke's t14, so I guess it's better than Vandy, but I still don't really think I'd pick going there over Vandy at this point. I figure if Duke really wanted me there they wouldn't have put me on the wait list.

Hey there old buddy

You know I want to study with you in cold and windy Chi-Town!!! But again those $$ and Vandys rep will be just fine for you if we don't. :-) I am really excited for "early june" So all b.s aside, would you drop Vandy for NU? I would be sad to leave the Bay Area b/c I know I'd be happier here, but I'd also be happier knowing that a top job would be easier to secure in three years :-) Let's keep in touch!
