*********************BIO*************************
Briefly, I'm an odd story. Began undergrad over 15 years ago as a NROTC student at Texas. Got injured, lost scholarship, left school, and became a pro musician. Played all over US and in Europe. Returned to school and have gotten a 4.0 since, while working full-time. I'd never have guessed I'd be doing this, but life is crazy.

*******************LSAT RANT***********************

IS IT JUST ME, OR HOW RIDICULOUS IS IT THAT LAW SCHOOLS ASK US NOT TO JUDGE THEM BY US NEWS RANKINGS, YET OUR ADMISSIONS ARE DETERMINED ALMOST COMPLETELY BY OUR LSAT SCORES?!?!?!

******************MY RANKINGS**********************
The REAL longshots - though I'm really looking for the $$$ I'd have to consider sucking up the debt at one of these - that would be a great problem to have!

Virginia
Duke
Boalt

William & Mary and Illinois are going to be really tough - I'd give my left leg for W&M.

At all of the others I feel I have at least a puncher's chance or better. Again, $$$ will be a primary consideration.

My rankings are just estimates and reflect my slight bias toward small schools on the east coast in rural areas. I feel lucky just to be going and won't be able to really decide until I've visited. I didn't apply to any schools I wouldn't go to.

***************EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER*************

Obviously, with $15k/yr UIUC has moved up bigtime!

Waitlisted @ Indiana-Bloomington after I'm in @ Wisconsin and offered $$$ @ Illinois. I don't get it - it's actually comical.

Offered in-state @ Kentucky, which basically is $10k per year - A very inexpensive legal education. Illinois still a better deal. I'm still waiting for my ship to come in...

Arizona offer intriguing... Tucson is one of my favorite towns and its dirt cheap. I wonder about establishing residency...WOW, RESIDENCY ISSUES ARE HUGE NOW!!!

Right now its between Illinois and Arizona - still haven't heard from ANY of my top picks. Very anxious...

Finally starting to hear from some top choices. In @ Wake, just need some $$$.

I'm not gonna get W&M. I can feel it.

Rumor has it (and I'll find out for sure) that UofA allows residency after the first year. That makes their offer totally sweet. Az is on top now!!!

San Diego is a great school and (i think) way underrated. But @ $36k/yr there's NO way.

Getting really frustrated with these schools that are stringing me on - if you're not going to admit me, fine! Just let me know. Same with Fin Aid. I can't afford to visit schools that don't offer $$$ and time is running short.

This shit is killing me...

THIS IS SO F*CKED UP!!!
So I'm @ work and I get an email that says :
"Greetings from Boalt Hall!I am writing to congratulate you once more on your recent admission to Boalt Hall and to cordially invite you to one more special event..." I freak out, call my parents and friends and then get this email...
"We apologize for the email you may have just received. There was a computer error made and you were sent the email in error. We ask that you disregard it. Thank you."
Damn their souls to hell...

Still hoping for a financial aid offer that will make my choice obvious. It's all about the W's - Wisc, Wake, W&L, Wash St. Louis, W&M...

Sent a couple of withdrawls - feels good to thin out the pack.

Starting to feel like the cycle is over - not getting in @ W&M, W&L, WUSTL, UVA, Duke and Boalt (again). Unless I get some Big $$$ @ Iowa, WISC or Wake, It'll be Illinois or Arizona. That's great - let's get it over with.

Got my first ding from Virginia - honestly, it feels good just to know @ this point. I wish the others could be as considerate.

Currently attempting to negotiate a better fin-aid deal for myself - I'll let everyone know how it goes.

IT"S ALL OVER!!! FULL-RIDE AT WISCONSIN!!! DONE DEAL!!! Withdrew from Pitt, Minn, Tenn, Kentucky and Richmond ASAP so y'all can get hooked up with the $$$. Will keep a few reaches open incase a miracle happens.

Not so fast!!! FULL-RIDE @ IOWA! My head hurts...

I'm sooo over all this stuff. At this point every ding is welcome. I just want it to be over.

Going to visit Iowa and Wisconsin 1st week of April. Its almost over...

Rejected @W&M. Sometimes you just know, you know?

Rejected @ W&L. Virginia hates me!

So long, St. Louis (Washington U).

Waitlisted @ UNC - Withdrew immediately.

Got a Fin-Aid letter from WF - and that's it. Didn't get offered Jack Shit which is odd considering how broke I am. Thank goodness for Iowa and Wisconsin!

NOW... it's really over. After visiting Iowa and Wisconsin, I have decided to attend Wisconsin. I can't express how pleased I am with this decision. I think it's the perfect school for me. I've tried to be as candid and detailed as possible so that others could learn from my experiences. I hope it helps someone down the road. My advice to anyone applying to law school is to apply to as many schools as possible. The one you don't apply to is the one which may be the best opportunity. That's how it happened for me. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

Update (4/12/06): Got calls from Kentucky and Arizona (I withdrew over a month ago) - there's lots of money floating around out there - don't be afraid to wheel and deal!

I finally hear from the last school - a rejection from Duke. No surprise, but I can't understand why it took so long,

I noticed we both applied to a lot of the same schools. Let's keep in touch about them when we start getting decisions. :)

You're right

everything you said about w&m is right on target. do you have any specific info. in mind? i'll emal whatever i can. did you send in the extra essay for the various fellowship opps? hopefully they'll let me stick around and i'll see you next year!

Con Law @ W&M
Wednesday, November 30 2005 at 07:00 PM

Me too! (IoBRL) how great would that be?! I'm such a longshot, but you def. have a good chance. w&m is def. a great place for conlaw and Wburg needs more WestCoasters so best of luck! Check out Prof. Van Alynsthe (sp) - one of the top con law scholars in the country, you can email him w/ questions, he's a super nice guy on top of being brilliant.

Thanks dude

Hi: Thanks for visiting my profile and offering info. Coincidentally, i had just been on your profile (for obvious similarities) before posting my own. I sent in my apps in early November and all of them are complete. Since we\\\'re applying a few of the same schools, i\\\'ll let you know how i fare. Best of luck.

Thanks for the post. I think you have a great shot at all your schools -- looks like you'll have a stand-out app. I'm in Pittsburgh right now so let me offer this advice: pack warm, your Long Beach wardrobe will do you no favors here . Best of luck!

Hey! Yeah, I'm very excited to get into a great school so early....no, I haven't had a chance to see W&L yet but hopefully I'll be going up in January when classes start up again so I can get a good feel for it. Let me know if you have any information/experiences with W&L that would be helpful. Take care and good luck with everything--you have nothing to worry about

Congrats on your Richmond acceptance! What an amazing way to start the cycle! (Sorry it took me so long to pass on my well-wishes!) I'm sure there's a lot more good news to come, but if Richmond is worse-case senario, that is a great place to be!!!

Arizona
Monday, June 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

I just found out today that I got into Arizona as well! Although I still have to wait to find out about UIUC. San Diego and W&L are next, I can feel it!

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

so much. It did sting but I honestly had no interest in that school even if I did get in , lol. Congrats on Arizona, I wish I had applied there.

On a Roll
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Wow! You are really on a roll lately. Concerning residency, each state is different and each school is different. I have not seen anything that compiles all the different schools/states (and it would be different for me anyway since I am active military). I recommend that you do a search at each schools website for residency criteria. If the school is private then move the the states website. Sorry I don't have more info. v/r

Arizona
Wednesday, October 05 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Arizona. I'm an undergrad there now and you'll love it. It's an awesome school :)

Boalt
Tuesday, February 14 2006 at 07:00 PM

That Boalt email was HARSH! They should bump you up the index just for that shiat.

re: Tenn
Sunday, January 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

Tennessee does say their financial aid CAN change if you change residency .... in fact they were the only school that really seemed like they were limiting their fin aid award, listing all the reasons it could be cancelled, i.e. outside scholarship, military tuition waiver, etc., seems a little shady to me

USD scholarship
Sunday, October 23 2005 at 08:00 PM

I was curious about how they notified you about the $18k renewable scholarship. Did they send the offer with your acceptance letter, or did you have to complete a financial aid form and return it after you got your acceptance? Also, if you don't mind me asking, is it a merit or need based scholarship? Thanks and best of luck to you!

Congrats
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

you are racking up the great acceptances!!!!! keep rocking on baby!!

yeah
Thursday, December 08 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'm just here tweedling my thumbs waiting for that UNC acceptance letter :) If they don't come through for me, then Vandy and Dookie won't either. In the end, i may just have to go to UPitt (which ain't too bad). By the way, Wake is awesome too--wish i had applied there. I don't know though, i'm looking to stay in NC; that just may be me.

One more thing
Thursday, December 08 2005 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, i just noticed that you and partyguy both received complete notices before i did (and i gave in my application a little before). Since i'm a NC resident now (though i'm originally from NYC) they had to confirm my residency status--that's what took sooo long. At a public university that's mandated to accept 75% in-state, it's a tedious process that's unfortunately very necessary. In the end, they confirmed that i was a resident--let's see if that has any sway. :)

very nice bio
Sunday, February 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

i dont get this admissions process b.s. you sound like you would contribute a ton to any law school. any vet is cool in my book. schools should throw out those old grades, people change in 15 years, and the over reliance on the LSAT sucks too, but you have some very solid options. see ya at illinois?

Wisconsin Congratulations!
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Way to go!!! Nothing beats free in my book! When did you submit the add't scholarship application? How'd they let you know? Again, congratulations!

Congrats
Monday, January 30 2006 at 07:00 PM

Wisconsin has a way of finding the most interesting students. Congratulations on the full ride. Ever go to San Pedro? I'm overdue for a pilgrimage to find Mike Watt.

Wisconsin
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

WTG!!! That is soooo awesome!! Congrats, I am so happy for you!!!

Thanks
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

I have a feeling you will also get into DUKE!!! so GL!!

Congrats on that ride to Wisconsin
Thursday, December 08 2005 at 07:00 PM

WOW on that scholarship--that's just amazing. How many people can say they went to law school for practically free--and at such a great institution?! I'm sure it's well earned and you'll do great things. Congrats!

Pitt
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

I would love to hear what you think about Pitt and how your visit went

wow
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

awesome awesome awesome. Iowa and Wisconsin really came through for you. Any idea which one you like best?? I have a friend at IOWA, who got the fullride as well, if you wanna chat to him let me know, he is still a 1L but he is in the top 10% and got 2 great job offers for his 1l summer. One with a BigLaw firm and one with a federal judge!!

Tough Choice
Monday, August 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Wow, Congratulations! You have a tough choice! Two great schools, have you visited both schools? I'd be a shame not to see you in Madison in the fall!

USD
Wednesday, February 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on USD! Did you apply for PT or FT?

Thanks!
Thursday, December 08 2005 at 07:00 PM

You know it man! I was so happy to see that acceptance letter! I see you haven't heard from them yet--but with your stats i'm sure you'll get an acceptance. Given the other equally impressive offers though, i'm sad to think that you'll probably not be joining me this Fall. But, i'm sure you'll do amazing wherever you go. Thanks for your support. All the best.

WI
Monday, February 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

Dude, you should go to Wisconsin, from a Wisconsinite's perspective that would be a great place to attend law school. The full ride is an amazing offer. Side note - I visited Pitt and thought it was pretty cool too. Good luck on W & M though.

So what is it?
Monday, June 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

Wisconsin, Illinois, or Iowa? LOL - You're definitely heading to Big 10 country. Good luck with your decision!

If I were an admissions officer..
Saturday, October 01 2005 at 08:00 PM

...I would be proud to have you come to my school. Though I'm sure we would share a number of ideological differences, I thought your comment on Cedarchick's board (College Republicans) was worth responding to. I think the attitude you demonstrated is exactly what law schools need to foster healthy debate and critical thinking. Numbers aside, I think you're one of the most well rounded candidates I've come across on LSN.

Waiting
Monday, June 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

Not even going to wait it out for W&M or Duke? I think it'd be in your best interest to do so, and if you get in, use the scholarship leverage from these other schools. Especially since those two are your #1 and 2 choices. Not to say Wisconsin/Iowa aren't good schools - just wondering why you're so antsy to make a decision before you hear from everybody. Good luck, and enjoy your trips!

Arizona & stuff...
Monday, June 27 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yes, I'm still favoring Arizona, but only ever so slightly. I visited USD and liked it a lot. The thing that's really making up my decision is the fact that Arizona will be so much cheaper, and its rank is a little higher (which is offset by the fact that it isn't in the state that I probably will practice in, but I have other personal factors that may not make that such a difficult obstacle). But anyways, I'm visiting Arizona in April, and unless they completely bomb the visit for me, I'll likely pick Arizona over USD. BUT, it'll depend on what happens with the rest of my applications. I think the wild card for me is Washington & Lee. If they accept me, I would really have to consider it. I've never gone to school on the east coast, so it will be a new experience, which seems sexy. Or it could be a potential disaster waiting to happen if I end up getting homesick or not liking living in a small community (I've lived in urban environments all my life). USC accepting me would probably make my whole process a done deal, and although I didn't particularly like my Hastings visit and its location, I still think I might just bite the bullet based on its prestige in this state alone. But anyways, what I'm basically saying is...I still have no idea. And I'm punishing myself with school deposits because of it. But yeah, good luck with your process. Let me know how it goes and where you end up.

wow
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

congrats on Wisconsin. I wish Iowa would give me the scholarship you turned down, lol. Thanks.

Thanks so much
Saturday, September 17 2005 at 08:00 PM

I think I just got your scholarship from IOWA. God Bless you!!! ;0)
