Fee waivers from SMU, Houston, Texas Tech, and Baylor
(I have lots from other schools but I wont apply to them so I wont list them.
However, my top two choices - ND and Texas - gave me no fee waiver. I hope thats not a sign of rejection.
The schools listed are the only ones I will applyto unless i get rejected by all of them before march and I have enough time to apply to a school with a march 15 deadline. I hope this isnt the case.
o and the city and state i have listed are where i live, not where i went to school. i attended saint louis U.
so i got an email today (2/3/06) saying that SMU had reviewed my profile and my resume was missing. I remember i faxed it to them on january 17 and i even called them to see if they got it. anyways, i emailed them another copy. I hope this doesnt mean that i have to wait an extra few weeks to see my decision. but its scary to think that as i am typing these people are probably deciding my future in some small office in Dallas, Texas. pretty weird huh?
i checked with SMU today (2/6/06) to see if they got my email with my resume and they confirmed it. hopefully they'll come to a decision soon.
(2/7/06) nothing new except that houston has received my LSDAS report. I wonder how fast they make decisions as soon as the LSDAS report is in. UT should be getting the LSDAS report soon, for it was requested last wednesday.
(2/10/06) another silent week. cant take this anymore. its gonna be more intense as the weeks go by. the more time passes, the closer my decisions are coming. im still very pissed about my LSAT score. Why couldnt i have cracked 160??? i suck.
(2/14/06) well even though UT doesnt tell you when they get your LSDAS report i am going to assume i went complete there yesterday. They requested the LSDAS on feb 1 so it should be there by now. On another note, my file is now "in review" according to the University of Houston status checker. Thats both nerve-racking and awesome at the same time. UH has been really fast with this process. Kudos to them even if they dont accept me. Hopefully I'll have a decision by Friday, woo-hoo!
(2/16/06) strange that i havent gotten an email from Tech saying they received my application. maybe i should call.
im just hoping ill hear some good news either today or tomorrow from somebody. the quiet weeks are killing me.
(2/19/06) IN AT UT!!! THE EYES OF TEXAS ARE UPON ME!!! HOOK EM HORNS!!! btw it was a small white envelope with the letter dated feb 15 2006.
(2/21/06) Still enjoying having gotten into UT and waiting for scholarship info. UH status checker stills says "in review" (damn). Nothing from SMU, ND, or Baylor. Tech still seems to have not received my file. Dont know the story there. O well, I am still happy about UT and getting in there will make me less anxious about other places. Cant wait to receive a bigger packet with more info about the program.
(2/22/06) Whew, so Tech received my application afterall. They said since I applied near the deadline it took a while to process. Thats understandable. The email was very polite. Very good sign of a quality institution.
(2/22/06) Woo-hoo!!! In at SMU!!! Really excited!! I have been admitted into 2 of my three #1s. This feels real good! btw it was a phone call from Jill. (packet to be mailed 2/23/06).
(2/23/06) Received letter from ND saying I have been placed on the "Provisional List". I take that to mean waitlisted. Im bummed but not too bummed. At least this makes my selection easier and guarantees that I will be in Texas for law school.
(2/25/06) Packet from SMU arrived today. Pretty nice and very informative. The letter was also very personalized, noting my achievements at St. Louis U. That was pretty cool.
(2/26/06) After thinking all weekend long about my decision, I am this close to committing to UT. I will visit the campus this week, and if everything goes well I may just put down my deposit while I am in Austin. However, there is nothing set in stone just yet (but I am darn close).
(3/2/06) Just got back from Austin today. I loved it up there. I will be a Longhorn!
I also received a $5K/Year Scholarship as well. Money is good, very good.
(3/4/06) Received $15K/Year Scholarship from SMU. I appreciate this offer but my heart is set on UT.
(3/8/06) UH status checker still says "file in review". This does not matter because I am going to UT, but I am updating it for others who also applied to UH. Baylor status checker also says that they have not made a decision on my file. I have been complete there since Jan 28. Tech still has not even requested my LSDAS report.
(3/10/06) Well, everything is official. I just mailed my enrollment deposit to UT and accepted the scholarship offer. I am now a LONGHORN (officially). Woo-hoo!
(3/14/06) Amazing, UH status checker still says "in review". It has been this way for exactly a month. I am now convinced that "in review" means nothing more than having your application go from a HUMONGOUS pile to a "smaller" pile. Seriously, how could an application be in review for a month? The term "rolling admissions" is used way too liberally by far too many law schools. Furthermore, why do I even care? I am already committed to UT. I think this website has made me insane. Also, Baylor status checker still says "no decision has been made."
(3-17-06) Email from Baylor saying I am on the waitlist. I was offered admission to the Summer 2006 entering class though. Not bummed at all. I am a Longhorn.
(3-21-06) Today, I just withdrew from Tech and SMU as well as telling Baylor to take me off their waitlist and informing ND to keep me on theirs. No word yet from UH. I will probably be withdrawing, but I want to see if I get money to see if UT matches the offer. Not likely though. Besides, I am very satisfied with getting $5K from UT with my low LSAT.
(3-24-06) Checked UT Freshlaw. My enrollment deposit has been received. It is now officially official.
(3-28-06) Withdrew from UH. They were taking way too long for a decision. About 6 weeks since my file was in review. I decided to withdraw because I am set on UT.
(4-18-06) Got my financial aid award from UT. Got lots more money in the form of grants and loans. I am all set for now.
I was suprised at how quickly ND responded as well. They didn't notify me of anything before the acceptance-- I was actually considering calling to make sure they had gotten everything! I got an email with the scholarship offer and the acceptance- they said a formal letter would follow. I have yet to receive it, but this is not abnormal-- things take about a 100 times longer to get to me because I'm overseas at the moment. One of my friends is still waiting to hear back from ND and she applied in early November. For some reason they just decided to tell me early I guess. Best of luck with everything and thanks for the comment!
