3 Solid LORs
disappointing LSAT record (for my range)
Strong resume
Compelling PS and DS
lackluster UGPA

I'm pretty much done with my apps. I don't know how to feel. I'm confident in my application except for my LSAT scores (yes, multiple scores -- one being a cancelation). I submitted an addendum explaining the LSAT situation: family crisis which I'll keep private here to maintain anonymity.

I don't have much hope for the top schools on my list. I applied because I obtained a fee waiver. The other aspects of my application I feel are fairly strong though--PS, Resume, LORs--so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I was going to apply last year, but I wrapped up everything fairly late in the season, so I decided at the last minute to wait to apply this year. The process has been long, but I'm ready. Law school or bust!

10/17/11
First acceptance goes to Suffolk (they were quick!). It's a backup school for me, but nonetheless, it's nice to be loved--though no word on scholarships, and no action on my part is necessary until April 15th.

I don't know how many schools on my list will deliver an answer before christmas--I'm not expecting much action until after new years and into spring. Regardless, I'll keep everything posted as it comes.

Thanks be to the expeditious Suffolk!

U Miami: they updated my status today. I'm not sure how to interpret it, but it did mention I was qualified to be "placed in a hold category" where I'd be reconsidered prior to April 30th.

Now, I'm not going to assume that this means I've been wait-listed, since they said my application will be reconsidered before May. But if we're speculating here, I think it means I "passed" the first cut. Perhaps U Miami had an early action program (anyone with useful info out there?)--although I wasn't aware that my regular admission application would be considered under early-action circumstances.

I do know that U Miami aggressively recruits candidates they like--so much so that they fly out their Miami Scholar recipients in Feb or March.

Three years of law, sunshine, and beach does sounds nice--hence my motivation for the lone application in the Sunshine State.

11/11/11
Waitlisted at DePaul today. Notified via email. It was a good thing I read the whole email because there's a required form to fill out indicating continued interest in admissions to the school. If a candidate doesn't complete it within two weeks they will be dropped from the admissions process altogether.

It was a simple form: name, contact info, and preferred program (day, evening, both).

I wonder how many applicants just read the email subject--"DePaul Waitlist"--and archive the news without learning about the required form. Maybe this is a common practice in law admissions waitlisting--I'm a noob at this--and I should keep an eye out as other WLs may trickle in.

Rejected from Santa Clara. Accepted to New England. Wish I had better credentials...

12/15/11
This week has been an active one. The moment of truth is quickly approaching!

Rejected from George Mason--I was kind of expecting that because I really didn't want to rewrite my whole PS to fit their ridiculously specifications (seriously, this was the ONLY application in my giant laundry list of schools that asked for a personal statement to be fewer than 500 words--wasn't going to happen).

Rejected from Fordham. I can dream--I did, and got rejected.

Accepted to Chicago Kent. This came as a huge surprise after my Santa Clara rejection. I'm seriously considering this school. Supposedly an excellent legal writing program. And Chicago! Never been to the windy city, but I don't need to to know that it would be amazing.

Accepted to Catholic U (Columbus) in DC. I'd have to visit first. I know I'd really enjoy DC.

It's apparent in my blogging that the location of the school is probably the most crucial element in my decision making (up there with school ranking). I do hope to scrounge up some jetblue buddy passes to visit these schools in the spring. Stay tuned.

12/24/11
More action. WL'd at Hofstra. Rejected from BC. $$ for Columbus (catholic).

Chicago-Kent has been on my mind lately. Their info packet arrived boasting their July 2011 first-time Il Bar passage rate of 97% (when statewide is 90%). They claim it's the highest among the State's 9 schools. Impressive. I want to make a visit this spring.

Rejections are rolling in faster than I can update my profile! They weren't unexpected, but it's still not fun.

The lone hope out of all my recent rejection is the University of Illinois. I'm in a "hold" category--a pseudo WL of some sort. I'm not crazy about living in Champagne-Urbana, but I've never been so I really don't know--at this point, I would be ecstatic for an acceptance (or even a true WL) at UI. I would be eager to attend for internships and job prospects in nearby Chicago.

Northeastern

Hey- Does your status for Northeastern still say 'Incomplete file'? I submitted on September 15 and mine still says that. Driving me nuts! Thanks

Yeah, I'm still "Incomplete" with Northeastern. Nothing has happened since my submission date. And I imagine you'll hear before me since you submitted earlier than I did. Let me know when you get updated.

nice variety. I feel confident about getting in somewhere--just where exactly is the stressful question. Hope it's decently-ranked! You planning on applying ED to any particular school? Good luck blackpride! keep me updated.

fee waivers
Thursday, September 22 2011 at 08:00 PM

how did you get fee waivers for all those schools??

Re: fee waivers
Monday, September 26 2011 at 08:00 PM

Hi hyphy, lsac offers a need-based fee waiver for the LSAT. Most schools waiver their application fees for those who have an lsac fee waiver. it's very convenient if you qualify. So far, I've only encountered two schools that don't accept the lsac fee waiver: Stanford and Yale--they use their own system. check out this link for more info: http://www.lsac.org/JD/pdfs/USFeeWaiverInstructions.pdf

Good luck

You will definitely get into a decently ranked school because you cast such a wide net! It also helps that you are applying early! Good luck!

Monday, June 27 2011 at 08:00 PM

It was more culture shock than anything else. Hardly anybody in the area spoke English. The facilities weren't all that either to be honest. The school was one little courtyard which was attached to the main campus, just wasn't what I was looking for I guess

Congrats

on your first acceptance! Looking forward to seeing how you're cycle turns out.

Good Luck

I'm applying to some of the schools as you and am very interested in seeing how your cycle plays out. Best of luck!

I'm in that hold spot at Miami too, good luck broskie. I definitely would not mind heading down south!

Thursday, October 13 2011 at 08:00 PM

hey did you get any info from hofstra (status checker)? I know the deadline for eary decision was 11/15.

Tuesday, June 28 2011 at 08:00 PM

We're in at Suffolk! Do you know anything about the school? I've never visited or anything I just applied as a safety.

Same Schools
Wednesday, September 28 2011 at 08:00 PM

Looks like we have similar numbers and are applying to some of the same schools. I got wait listed at DePaul and in at Suffolk too. Best of luck! I feel your pain on the LSAT score... we still have the potential to get into some great schools though.

We are basically number twins! I hope your cycle goes well! Which school is your top choice?

kent
Saturday, December 10 2011 at 07:00 PM

FYI - beautiful campus. excellent facilities. TOP NOTCH LEGAL WRITING PROGRAM. Now, I'm from Chicago (grew up on the South Side), so I'm biased, but I hate Chicago - the city itself. Living in the city and visiting/working there are two entirely different things. I prefer the suburbs (where I live now). As far as job prospects, you'd have a good chance esp. since CHI is a hub for legal jobs (not saying that the market is brimming, but it's just better than other markets). Anyway, Kent is an excellent choice. Keep this in mind when making your decision. Good luck with the rest of your cycle and congratulations!!!

Congrats

Congrats on some of the new schools you updated.

Any word? Are you still on hold or did they place you on the wait list?

Say Hi
Monday, December 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Hi, we have same score and similar status. Hope we could get satisfying offers in the end. I was confident in my application untill last week when a dozen of rejection mails overwhelmed me. I felt a little frustrated. But I know I am going to hold on. Good luck to you and me.
