Extra Curricular Information

I graduated from undergrad cum laude in 2004. After that I got married and have worked in publishing for nearly three years with one promotion under my belt. I've also been involved heavily in a few volunteer writing/editing opportunities since graduating.

Undergrad Activities:
Treasurer for English Honorary (two years)
Very active member in women's student activist group
Member of two honor societies
Wrote for student newspaper

Awards, Publications, etc.:
Published a book (I don't want to get specific here)
Winner of upperclass writing award
Dean's List student
Women's Studies minor

Steps I took after sending my applications:

UGA: I wrote two letters of continued interest for UGA. I visited the school, talked to the admissions director in person and later e-mailed the assistant admissions director. I was rejected two days after sending that e-mail.

GSU: I initially applied for FT but later submitted a letter asking to be considered for PT as well. I wrote a letter of continued interest and included two additional essays. I also had an extra LOR written and visited the school.

UC: I went the other route and did nothing.

Case: Same as with UC.

Maybe this information will help somebody in the future. Good luck.

I'd like to trade e-mail addresses with anyone else who will be part of the class of 2010 at Mercer's Walter F. George School of Law.

Are they your #1 choice right now? I've been deferred and we have kindof similar numbers...I wonder if applying from out of state is hurting me?? ugh...this is just getting very frustrating!

I hope you get good news, too! I notice that you are accepted at JM. Are you sending a deposit? It's due Tues and since I'm now not sure of what GSU will do, I guess I'll go ahead and send mine. Good luck!

good luck...

Sorry to see your denial from UGA. I was in the same position. Just letting you know I feel your pain. Good luck with GA State.

Yep, I got mine on friday, and it had transfer information in it as well.

No...

It's not getting any easier. I feel like my life is on hold right now, waiting for their decision. If they had 280 applications on hold still last wednesday--I wonder how long it will take them to review those? I called yesterday and she said no decisions were made on Friday but they were hoping to make some yesterday (monday)....we have to be right on the line ya know? I wish they'd just give us a shot! I want to know if I'm starting law school in the fall or not!?!?! GOOD LUCK!

Yeah, I was suprised when I was told that a decision was made. I figured I'd get the same shpeal that you and a few others have gotten. I hope we all get in!

yeah...

They told me thurs. or fri. too. Even though they are my #1 choice right now...it kinda makes me wary that they are so unorganized with this whole process. They haven't been updating the website and they made no effort to send us letters saying that our decisions were deferred and that they would make a decision at a later date. It just seems a little unprofessional for them to say April 30th, April 30th...and then nothing, still...on may 10th? ugh Maybe this is just the frustration in me coming out...but I went to a big state university and even applying for undergrad they made a lot more effort keeping us up-to-date with the application process. Oh well, I guess they are really thinking good and hard about our applications...which is a good thing! GOOD LUCK!!! this week may be the one???

that's

scary...we've started dreaming about it! Think positively-positve thoughts equal positive outcomes...I keep telling myself that. They weren't answering the phones yesterday in admissions...they probably hate us, or they could have been updating the status checker? Hopefully we will all get accepted and this agony will be Over!!!!!

hmmm....
Wednesday, February 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

That makes me very nervous...I don't know why?? I guess I've just gotten so used to checking the mailbox-no answer...checking the status checker-complete ready for review....calling Admissions-still on hold...AHHH I get nervous when I think about an actual decision being made about my law school career, finally! Try to remember what the 3:00 was...I talked to her (should know 'her' name by now) and she said some decisions had "come down" this morning and that they were hoping for more today. I also asked if there was another date by which they were trying to finish by...the answer-'no'...ok, well I'm glad I'm making friends on lawschoolnumbers.com-lets hope we all get in and can be friends in person too!!!! CROSS YOUR FINGERS (can you tell I'm at the point of almost going off the deep end?) haha

The online status checker doesn't specify which program, but I sent an addendum stating that I could do either one. Hopefully, I'll get more info by email or snail and I will post then. Good luck to you too!

so...
Wednesday, February 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

I called and they said a decision has been made and I should be getting correspondence (spelling?) in the mail soon. This is absolutely killing me. I called her back and asked if it will be updated on the status checker and she said the lady is working on it today......cross your fingers for me!!!!!!!!!!!

i know...
Wednesday, February 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

Isn't this terrible! I hate the fact that they can't tell us over the phone. It's like everyone's in on a secret and you can't find out. My heart drops everytime I check the status checker/mailbox. This really is horrible....just think, either way, it's almost OVER! thank goodness...my nerves cant take it anymore!!!

Where did you go for undergrad? I went to UGA (graduated last saturday), and I hate that I cant get 3 more years in Athens. I saw that you were waitlisted there as well. I really don't if I could handle living in Atlanta but the cost of GSU is just too bad to pass up if I get in. Good Luck!!

Why Mercer?
Tuesday, January 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

After visiting Mercer, I was sure that this was were I wanted to spend three years learning law. The legal writing program and the focus on ethics and professionalism were very impressive, as well as the accessability of the professors to students. Simply put, this was the right law school for me.

yeah...

i agree that its really frusterating how they dont update the status checker regularly. has your letter come in yet?

don't give up!
Sunday, March 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

if you look at ilikeanimals' page, it has a lot of info about his acceptance letter. apparently it arrived 6 days after the letter was dated, and the status online still read "complete ready for review." i think its extremely frusterating that it takes this long to get the information, but at least it doesnt necessarily reflect the committee's decision!

i dont believe this...
Sunday, March 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

i just checked my status and beneath "complete ready for review" it says waitlisted. seriously---they wait until May 16th to tell me i'm waitlisted??? that just doesnt make sense

Checked my mail today and no letter from GSU. This is getting a little absurd. Also, status checker is the same. I almost don't want to go there simply because of how slow they have been.

well...
Wednesday, February 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

I called on thursday and spoke with the director of admissions...she told me that a decision was made last friday and that was an "unfavorable one"....took everything in me not to absolutely GO OFF on her for how unprofessional georgia state law school is and how completely ridiculous it is that it has taken them almost 5 months to make a decision on my file. I would rather not go to law school than to go there....seems like a big JOKE to me. I went to a top public institution for undergrad and there's no way I will settle for Georgia state....no way.

Saw your update.

I am not that upset about it. i knew it would be a stretch considering my LSAT. I think it is crazy how 3 hrs on a saturday morning can have so much influence, but o well. Yeah, I will be at Mercer unless I decide not to go this year. I feel like I need to go ahead and go and get the first year over with.Feel free to email me too.
