Extra Curricular Information

Scholarships are projected over all three years, to make me look more impressive.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm pretty much set on Iowa now, great school and great city so this should be excellent for me.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how my cycle worked out, and if you have any questions/anything to say (at all!), feel free to leave a message!

Good luck to everyone, hope all of your cycles end well!!

Additional info & updates

19oct07 - Disappointed in LSAT. Applying to some schools now. Retaking in December.

28oct07 - And we're off! (finally)

5nov07 - Accepted to Ave Maria with a full-tuition scholarship. Applying there was more a karma-motivated decision, as they were the first school to send me a fee waiver.

08dec07 - In at Penn State. Standard-sized envelope sent to permanent address. $15,000/yr provided I stay in the top half of the class. I'm going to law school!

13dec07 - My roommate called and told me that she saw an ad for Rock of Love 2 (with Bret Michaels) and that I got a big envelope that says "Welcome to DePaul." These two pieces of news are equally exciting to me. Yay Chicago-land admit, and yay Bret Michaels finding love...again.

14dec07 - In at Rutgers-Camden via an e-mail from an alumnus saying they were impressed with my personal statement. Admissions packet and Rutgers Law t-shirt are being mailed soon. I love free stuff. Well played, Rutgers.

21dec07 - So what happens when you don't study for September and then wait a couple months, not studying, and retake in December? You end up with a 167.

03jan08 - In at UPitt via an e-mail from a Prof. Chew. Happy New Year! I've been in Shanghai for a few weeks now, so I have no idea what's happening on the snail mail front.

11jan08 - Came back to my apartment to find an acceptance to Villanova, which came in a thin, white envelope. Letter dated December 12. Also received a BUNCH of letters from UPitt and Rutgers (and an awesome, bright red t-shirt), and both schools offered scholarships. Also looked at my DePaul packet, which had scholarship information. All scholarships are renewable.
(later that day...) Got an odd e-mail from the Dean of Chicago-Kent saying that he "just learned from the admissions office that [I] should be receiving an acceptance letter soon." So...I guess I got in. What a strange, strange way to inform someone of their acceptance.
(Letter from Kent came 18jan. $20,000/yr if I keep a 3.25. Excellentness. Kent just shot up in the personal rankings of sunshinedust. I do heart Chicago.)

15jan08 - Acceptance from Seton Hall with $20,000/yr. Regular envelope with 5 pages inside (letter dated 11 Jan). You know, I don't know how serious I was about Seton Hall before this came, but the scholarship definitely put it in the running. Who said money can't buy love.

17jan08 - E-mail from someone at Rutgers-Newark saying that "the Admissions Committee has voted to admit you to Rutgers School of Law - Newark for the fall 2008 entering class." That sounded less like I was accepted and more like I was being declared the winner of Survivor: Newark. At any rate, letter and packages are being mailed tomorrow.
(later that day...) E-mail from the assistant dean at Baylor. For some reason (which I doubt I'll ever figure out), I was awarded a full tuition scholarship, renewable all three years as long as I maintain a 2.00. Interesting. I just wish I didn't dislike warm weather so much.

17jan08 - In at SLU via a large envelope. Awesome (though oddly small) silver SLU Law pen as well. Excellent. Packets from Rutgers-Newark (offering $6,000/yr) and Baylor also came today.

24jan08 - Call from the assistant dean at Loyola, I'm in! Hoorah. LUC has been one of my top choices all along. Letter is being mailed today. If anyone is wondering, I did write the "Why Loyola?" optional essay. (Letter from Loyola came a week and a half later, $15,000/yr if I keep a 3.00)

18jan08 - Acceptance packed from Temple came in the mail, letter date 24jan. $15,000/yr if I keep a 2.50. Damn you, Temple, as if I wasn't confused enough already. These great offers shall make for a tough decision.

14feb08 - Got some Valentine's Day love from Case. Actually, I never got a "complete" notice, so I e-mailed them, and a few hours later I got an e-mail saying I was accepted. Odd...

12mar08 - With an e-mail acceptance from San Diego, my cycle is pretty much done. Decisions, decisions.

26mar08 - IN AT IOWA (by e-mail, letter to be mailed soon)!! Hoorah!

22apr08 - After I withdrew, DePaul increased my scholarship amount to $20,000/yr. Not quite enough to tempt me away from Iowa.

20jun08 - Seton Hall increased their offer to $30,000/yr, still not enough to sway me from going to Iowa.

Nope, my personal statement has all the factors that they suggest discussing in the optional, so i figured it would be redundant of me. I hope/plan to do international law

Yeah, I know, I'm very hopeful. If hell freezes over, I'd go to UIUC in a heartbeat, but more practically, i'd be up for Penn State/Depaul/University of San Fran

I'd really love to get into BC though it's a bit of a reach! What's your top choice?

Good luck

Jeez, congrats to you on cleaning house! And whats a LOCI? Do I need to send this somewhere?

not sure
Wednesday, July 04 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm not sure which way I'm leaning. Temple is close to home, but Pitt is a little cheaper. If I don't hear back from any other schools soon I might just go get a job. heh

Congrats

on such a great cycle so far! You're going to have some hard choices to make - any top picks? Sorry to hear about the WI wl - it's one of my top choices but I'm uber nervous because it's such a reach for me. Are you going to try and visit - see if you can woo them in person?

Top Choice
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

is definitely Wisconsin/WUSTL (and this is sooo much easier said than done), but I'd give major bodily organs to attend either... I hope they see something they like that makes up for my numbers. I was reading on Deloggio (which is debatable) but they don't list WI as one of the schools that "locks" their list, which to me would indicate that you could do things to positively improve your status. Did the letter address that? Given that I'm out of school, my LOCIs are a bit more limited (no awards, updated grades, etc) and for either school I think I'd camp outside the offices til they let me in! (but probably not til it got warmer :)) Good luck with your LOCI - I hope it gets you off the list!

Congrats

on San Diego! Looks like you've narrowed it down a bit - are you going to hold out on Wisconsin or make more definite plans?

Iowa
Tuesday, December 18 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Iowa...were you notified via email or regular mail?

You're a stud...
Thursday, October 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

Seriously, LOOK at all those acceptances, go you! Are you thinking Iowa then? For me, it's between UOregon and Case Western, but I'm leaning quite heavily towards Case. I'm visiting in 2 weeks, and then I'll make my choice

CONGRATS!!!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

on Iowa! That is such great news - I'm so excited for you!

IOWA!
Thursday, October 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations to you on making a decision!!! I'm sure you'll be doing great at Iowa!

Go Hawkeyes!

Wow, that's awesome about Iowa! Can't wait to see you. If you want to find me, I'll be the starry-eyed guy in the lecture hall still pinching himself because he can't believe he's really there. P.S. I remained on Wisconsin's waiting list just for kicks too.
