3/20/06: Offered 10K/yr Dean's Merit Scholarship
4/19/06: Turned down for Public Interest Scholarship, but Dean's Merit Scholarship increased to 15K/yr
4/20/06: Told I may still receive the Public Interest Scholarship due to new funding

WF: Notification 02/04/06, large envelope
03/21/06: Offered full-tuition "Law Alumni Council's Annual Fund" scholarship

NYU: Notification 02/09/06, large envelope

Fordham: Notification 02/14/06, email from John Chalmers
03/31/06: offered 10K/yr merit scholarship

Duke: Notification 02/22/06, large envelope
03/10/06: Offered $42,000 over three years

Brooklyn: Notification 02/27/06, email from Henry W. Haverstick III

Rutgers: Offer of admission and full-tuition scholarship via mail 03/10/06

Columbia: Put on "hold" status via email 3/28; will receive decision by April 30. I must say that I made a very embarrassing mistake by accidentally attaching the PS I had tailored to another school to my Columbia application, and that this mistake probably contributed significantly to their reluctance to admit me.
4/19/06: Now I'm in the "reserve" category, although I'm not sure I understand what that is. I think I'll withdraw.

that's awesome -- although i'm a bit nervous that you're not applying to law school there...may i ask why not? :)

great visit

i\\\'m sure you\\\'ll have better options than UT, but I had a wonderful visit and liked it a lot more than Wake or UNC. Hopefully next year will be better for Phil and Co.

yes, that's true, i'm exagerrating...although i'm not sure what you mean about "too bad!" 5-6 is better than 4-7, as far as i can tell... anyways, thanks for the feedback and best of luck to you!

Hey, just wondering whether you were seriously considering UTK still ... especially with the Legal Scholar offer. I've been trying to make up my mind between them and Wake Forest, where I just got a bad vibe.

congrats again

Thanks for the comment ... it's kind of funny, I've been waiting all this time for UNC to accept me and now I think I'm going to Wake, esp because of the money. Congrats on your scholarship !!!!

Duke vs. Penn
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

First off, congrats! What an awesome cycle.. even with the Columbia fiasco! In any event, I faced the same decision as you with Duke and Penn, so I thought I'd let you into my thought process, as it seems you are looking for advice. First off, Duke is fine school. Though I never got to visit (I was going to the ASW until I found out my aid offer -- a day before). In any event, everyone I dealt with was great. Even one of their hot-shot professors took the time to answer a few of my emails, usually within the same day. It seemed like a very close-nit school. My biggest problem with Duke, though (aside from the money they offered me) was the location in Durham. Although I am looking for a tight-nit law community, I would like there to be plenty of social options outside of the school. The kind of options offered by a city. I realize the research triangle is great, but I won't have a car, and besides, everything is so spread out there, I kind of like the compactness of a city. Also, I like Penn's academic freedom and grading curve. By academic freedom, I mean the ability to take 4 classes outside of the law school (either to get a certificate or just for fun), and, as far as the grading curve, I like that there is no GPA. I won't make this post any longer. Either choice is great!
