I am also going to do public interest work. Poverty/civil rights route for me. Good for you also on the death penalty stuff. I hate the death penalty.

woot, VISTA! I wonder how many of us are applying to law school -- you're the first VISTA (and even AmeriCorps member) I've come across on LSN. Best of luck to you!

Huzzah for AmeriCorps VISTA. I was plain vanilla AmeriCorps for 2 terms...I'm looking to do something in the order of public service, but I'm not as sure what. Good luck with the three remaining schools.

WCL scholarship

I got an email and a letter in the mail at my permanent address. I figure that they probably don't wait to tell people until they've done all the applications but rather inform along the way. Good luck!

Hey! NYU passed on me, too. Of course I gave them better cause than you did. I also want to pursue the public defender route. Good luck with scholarship $$.

I definitely want to do something in the service of the public. I'm not sure what exactly yet. Government & non-profit work appeals to me. I originally thought public defender was high on my list but after getting to know a neighbor of mine who was a full-time defender I'm a little more cautious. His mantra is that once you get onto that track it's hard to get the "stink" of criminal law (especially defense) off. I think he now feels constrained by his career choices. Fortunately I know some people in the Seattle Public Defender's office and may be able to swing an internship/externship there in order to give it a try.

PIPS Scholarship

Have you heard anything from WCL about the PIPS scholarship? I visited the school a couple weeks ago and was very impressed with the extent of PI programs, and the culture more generally - feel free to email me if you'd like to know more, and best of luck with schools/scholarships/career!
