I have a sinking feeling that I won't get in anywhere.

I'd love to go to Pepperdine, that would be a dream come true, but I would be *more* than happy to go to Chapman as well. Unfortunately, I'll probably be dinged at Pepperdine and waitlisted at Chapman if I'm *lucky*...Roger Williams University here I come....arrrrrrg. Rhode Island can't be that bad can it?

3-3-06: Acceptance to Calif Western (small envelope)
Acceptance to Roger Williams University (renewable scholarship)

3-29-06: Ok...Loyola online status check just went to "Decision"...gulp...should get that fat rejection in a few days.

Pepperdine...USD, Santa Clara, Wisconsin, Penn St., Fordham...I pray to thee oh mighty law school gods...please bestow upon me the priviledge of attending one of these schools!

The's driving me NUTS

April 20: scholarship $$ at Whittier

Yeah, I waited expectantly for a fin. aid letter. What I got was almost insulting. $1,200 need-based grant. Maybe they forgot a zero. Bye-bye Penn State. :-(

I was beginning to think that my waitlist status at Loyola was a mistake. Were you interviewd? I was I'm not quite sure where this is headed. I hope it works out for both of us. I am somewhat surprised that you were rejected at Hastings with URM status. Never know what they are thinking. I would have figured you would have goteen in to USF as well. If you get Southwestern, I'd take it. My brother is a first year evening and love it. He turned down UoP, Santa Clara and USF to go there as well as several others out of California. Keep you hopes up. You have places to go. We all know it's not the school that makes the lawyer.

Great job on the acceptances! I'm happy to find another procrastinator who waited to apply until after bombing the Feb test re-take. So what's the latest?

  • well...
  • Thursday, April 13 2006 at 07:32 AM

Well, at this point I think I will going to New York Law School. Unless by some miracle I am pulled off the waitlist at American, Loyola or Rutgers. Aside from Whittier and Southwestern, I think I would attend any of the schools still pending over NYLS. Hahah...yes, I'm definitely a procrastinator....although I wish I had just taken the Oct LSAT instead of pussing out...I think I would have done a lot better. The LSAT is not a test you can study for for 6 months. Who knows, maybe I would have gotten in to all my WL schools.

This is a little irrational, since I don't know you at all, but for some reason I really really want u to get in to Pepperdine. We'll see how much of a difference that makes :) keep us posted!

I would go to Rutgers, American or Loyola from my waitlist choices....and I would go to Penn State, Pepperdine, or UOP from my pending schools....all over my only option right now...which is NYLS. Though my #1 choice would be Loyola...then Pepperdine, then Rutgers/Penn St. How about you?

what are your thoughts b/w TJSL and Cal Western? Considering Whittier's problems concerning accredidation I'd drop them fast but unless you would be fine with relocating and staying in the RH area I think it sounds like you'd be happier staying in CA.

I hear Thomas Jefforson is a joke in San Diego...Cal Western is head and shoulders above TJ. I would definitely go to CW over TJ...and even Whittier considering their probation problems. I got a massive scholarship to Whittier, but I would still rather be in debt and go to a school that is not on probation. I think I would be happier staying in CA, although at this point my options are fairly limited. Unless I get off the waitlist at Loyola, or accepted to Pepperdine, I thnk I will be going to NYLS.

  • "expert" advice on choosing
  • Monday, May 08 2006 at 04:11 AM

hope u have more choices from ur waitlists & pending! but in any event, Law School Insider recommends: Pick "a school as close as possible to where you want to practice [law]. {But} Schools in the third and fourth U.S. News tiers have disproportionately less success in placing students in jobs than schools in the first two tiers, so ... opt to spend first year at the best-ranked school [in the first two tiers, if u can get admitted] ... regardless of location, work like crazy to earn way into the law school's top 10%, and then transfer to a top locally-respected ... school...." so, maybe a low-tier california law school makes more sense than ny law, unless they place well in the California locale u r interesed in practicing! good luck, my friend!

According to "The Legal Employment Market" (Ciolli, 45 Jurimetrics, Summer 2005), in the California Region your law schools ranked as follows for law firm placement: Loyola #30, Pepperdine #31, American #35, Southwestern #39, Chapman #45, Cal Western #47, Pacific #48, Jefferson #52. Whittier and the rest are also-rans. Hope this info helps in ur ultimate decision. later, ray
