congrats on mcgeorge!
Congratulations with your McGeorge acceptance! and good luck with the rest of your apps!
I got the letter from UOP in the mail the next day. I haven't filed FAFSA and won't until my taxes are done which will be the middle of February. Best of luck!
so do you plan to withdraw fro any schools now?
well if i stay in sd i will go to usd hands down. waiting for a tjsl letter would take away somebody else's chance of getting in, i empthasuzed with us low 150s ppl, we want as good of a chance we can get and we dont need ppl who dont plan to go there hogging spaces! lol, but its always nice getting a letter to feel wanted. money is only going to play a factor if it is a significant amount, say half tuition, and it has to be relatively close to usd in ranking. so the only schools un play for me would be loyola, pepperdine ucd (but no way im getting in) UoP and unlv. if i were to whittle it down i want to get into loyola bad, and hopefully, come august we'll be classmates together there!
I've already mailed out a lot of W's USC included, I'm pulling for you.
Im rooting for you!
is my first choice because I grew up on the East coast and I hate it here. Especially Northeast.
going to miss CA. I've actually lived in CA for most of my life, despite what my profile says ;) Congrats on your acceptances. Good luck on your pendings!
congrats on toledo! i got in too! the only thing i knew about toledo was that it was in ohio. since i got my accept i have been doing some researching. every thing i find or hear about this school is positive, from the faculty to the low cost of living. i am really starting to get excited about this school. :) any way, good luck with the rest of your apps.
No word yet on money...hopefully soon. I'm goin down on the 10th, let me know how it goes!
Goodluck on your apps!
Yeah dude! Im going to Hastings for sure...With a LSAT score as low as hours Hastings seems like a pretty darn good school... Of course I got in with a little help from LEOP. I see the extra work as an extra boost towards succeeding in law school. I dont mind taking mock tests and having my papers revised before turning them in...I think is great!
First, I want to wish you the best of luck and I truly hope you get into your dream school. But your policy of getting everyone to withdraw from USC is a little off base. Schools admit more people than they have slots for a reason -- they KNOW people will deny spots there. Lots of schools plan on only admitting a certain # of people because they know, generally, if they admit that many people they will get the results they need. That doesn't mean if someone withdraw's their application that there all of a sudden becomes an open spot - they basically already had factored those withdraws into their decision. Like I said, best of luck, and I'm totally rooting for you, but you might want to pursue a different strategy then getting everyone and their moms to withdraw.
but i concur, asking everyone to withdraw might not be the most effective way to get that spot...I think they accept X number of people knowing that of those X, say 50% will not accept, so they have the rest to fill out their class. By withdrawing, a spot does not open for someone they havent considered to get a spot. This is coming from someone in the same situation as you. BUT prove me wrong and get the last laugh, which is proven to be the most satisfying laugh you will ever have :)
god i hate this whole process lol. best of luck though, something good is bound to happen. and whats the deal with no mail on presodents day!? i want my mail everyday now, even sunday, this waiting is killing me.
I wish i wrote it. It its kinda old, if i remember right it was written in 1990 and was originally titled, 'An ideal perosnal statement' by some kid who submitted it to a literary magazine and got into Columbia. I switched the last word of the essay though, it was riginally college but i put law school. It works for any kind of school though! thats all they want to hear, that we are some kind of god.
hey thanks for the message, congrats on your acceptances so far, it's nice to have many to choose from. I am sure there are many more on the way. I did not apply to Hastings thru LEOP because I didn't think I would honestly be able to qualify that way (but maybe I should have!)
Thanks for the congrats. No worries about taking down the info. I only did that like 3 days ago because I was paranoid. My numbers are a bit deceiving...I have multipe lsat scores and Hofstra takes the highest (156) so I think that's what helped me. Good luck, I'll continue to pray for you and everyone else on this board that God places you where he wants you to be.
it took from Jan 30 (application acknowledgement) until Feb 15th...i checked the status online
yep, called loyola, they said i would recieve a decision in 2 weeks....3 weeks ago. my file is complete though, nothing has changed on the online app check thing since early december though. maddening isnt it?
i thought you meant hearing back from schools in general. well UoP...as long as they dont send me anything, it means they havent rejected me...which is a nice thought. still waiting on loyola and davis though1 theyre taking forever and a day.
Maybe with our similar lsat's I have a chance there too. Feel free to contact, Best Wishes!
yea i read the same thing. i think it bodes well for those ppl, getting a decision this early should be good news right? i'm still at 'complete' though, and have been since december. its crazy. last i heard form lmu was some financial aid card that mad eit very clear getting the card was no indication of acceptence. they dont mince words do they?
my best friend went to ucla undergrad and UOP for law school. I hate the waiting game: go to mailbox=hopes up, nothing there=hopes dashed
from ucla and uop is doing intellectual property law in slc. he just finished a judicial clerkship. he is a sharp guy, top 10% at uop
Yes, I am also shocked Pepperdine responded so quickly. California schools are normally SOOO freaking slow. In any event, hang in there; i'm sure good news will be coming your way soon.
oops, I forgot to log in. That last comment was from me. Good luck with your apps!! :)
I'm waiting for USC, Hastings and Loyola as well. Good luck!
I'm going to visit April 21. How did you like it when you went out there? What was the agenda like for the Legal Scholar's Day?
Ya screw USC, who needs them anyway, with their outrageous tuition fee. plus, I never really liked the school. Im a Bruin for life. good luck with the rest of your apps
Sorry to hear about USC's rejection. I assume you got the little envelope too? I don't think I've heard of anyone being emailed a rejection.
Nah, I didnt apply through LEOP. I looked at all the questions, and honestly...I probably would have had to lie on all of them. I was not disadvantaged at all....but I am seriously kicking myself for not doing LEOP...good luck bro...you have a shot!!! GO BRUINS>>>final four baby
Yeah, my 'dream' ended just two days prior to you. But congrats again on McGeorge! Def. go there, unless you hear from Hastings or Loyola/Pepperdine!
thanks for the nice words! i know we're all pulling for each other. this whole process has left me so apathetic. i think this late in the game i should not be expecting any more acceptences. davis will not pan out for sure, my numbers dont match and who are we kidding....#'s are everything. lmu though...i dont think lighting can strike twice, i used all my karma reseerves for usd and not am just running on fumes lol. but who knows, if i luck out, lmu you come calling. sorry again about usc, but they dont know what theyre missing out on! (i honestly mean that, not in the empty hollow way everyone else does lol )
it looks like we got the same deal from toledo! how insane is that! free school, free school, free school! i have no idea what i'm going to do now. what about you?
that's my e-mail up there.
They must really want you as a graduate! That's truly great--I wish you the best, and I certainly understand you picking them over UoP. Have you considered where you want to practice? Good luck with the rest of your apps!!!
would understandably be tough. I've lived in the MidWest my whole life and am finally ready to move to CA. But if I were offered into a top-ranked school like Toledo, I'd have to really consider it. Free ride, heck yeah--you don't want to be too far in debt post-ls. But, then again, you do have some $ at McGeorge, so maybe reconsider that one. If you're planning on practicing in CA, esp. LA, you may want to consider staying in state, and I can see how Loyola and Pepp rank highly for you. But it's all relative... and personal. Good luck at the local schools! Thanks for the congrats re: SW. I'm sure if I got in you will, too. I only hope I have some $$ coming!!! Hey, if you're from LA, could you give me some advice concerning living in the area, in case I do attend SW? My email addy is posted for you. (And, actually, I would perceive USD and McGeorge to be a tie for me, as I think I'd rather live/practice in NorCal, even though USD is more highly ranked.) Best!
congrats! now lets hope lmu pulls through!
Hey, TOledo seems so random compared to all your cali schools...what's up with that ??
haha yea i saw the amt of money...70k is quite A LOT if I have to say! haha...are you from Ohio originally I'm wondering, because what led you to apply there before you received word of the money and their acceptance?? Oh, and where does Southwestern lie in your plans? I see they didn't give you any money...I'm actually still waiting on them...but I think Northeastern would be the better idea, we'll see lol Ciao.
and yea it is strange to go to a law school that's not top 10 or 12 or whatever like Northwestern is as an undergraduate school, although I have to admit I am a bit lucky to get into Northeastern because I did kinda slog through college lol, but I really want to transfer after one year (that's the plan at least)...the thing that's weird is that I think schools often put wayy too much emphasis on the LSAT from what I can gather whch sucks, as opposed to your undergraduate school and how well you did...for ex. I know of someone who went to Arkansas State (after going to another college and a community college) and they're now going to Northwestern School of Law here in Chicago...so who knows...but pacific in sacramento is rather good, and I went down to Southwestern and this girl who I talked to said she chose it over USC for its part-time entertainment program.
They are most definitely taking their sweet time. Loyola would have to make a pretty sweet offer to sway me from going to U of Oregon, but at this point in the cycle I don't expect anything beyond an acceptance. If Hastings accepts me, and I feel like that's a pretty big if, then I think I'll jump ship and go there. I don't mean to sound negative, but the reality is we could be waiting a long time to hear back from these schools (especially Hastings). A friend of a friend, who is a 2L at Hastings, didn't get off the waitlist at Hastings until August. He had already put a deposit down on an apartment in St. Louis and was ready to go to Washington University. That's a pretty extreme example, but it's pretty eye-opening to know that some people have to wait that long. I'm just proceeding as if I have been rejected from both schools, and if I get in then I'll adjust my plans. My stress level has gone way down since I've settled on going to U of O, and I'm actually starting to get excited about it. Of the schools that you've been accepted to, which one are you leaning toward? I hope that you get acceptances soon from Loyola, Pepperdine, and Hastings, but if not you've already got some great options.
now that i'm done with the cycle, i think i came out only half satisfied. i sincerely hope you have better luck than me, and get into hastings or loyola. best of luck!
Hey don't worry about Hastings, you have great acceptances. Good luck at loyola and pepperdine!
no kidding. I really hope it's worth the wait, cuz it's been killing me for 6 long months now. Congrats on such a successful cycle, and thanks for the good wishes! Holly
i'm going to withdraw from loyola as soon as i get my packet from hastings.. good luck!
thanks for the nice words. im sorry hastings fell through. hopefully lmu or pepperdine will follow through, better yet, follow through with soem $$$! i am in the process of hounding lmu or davis until they accept me. if i cant shimmy my way into those schools, than i guess im off to usd.
i don't know about crazy, but it just seems that it would not take much to transfer from toledo back home to southwestern. that one year in toledo would save you some serious doe. and the big question: what happens if you do poorly 1L and are not able to transfer? you could get bad grades anywhere. what happens if your grades are good? you will likely have a good shot at all the top schools on your list. note: it is easier to transfer w/in tiers than up tiers. both toledo and loyola are tier 2. i bet top half of the class will give you a chance. aouthwestern? probably top 25%.
If it's any help to you, weirdly I am wailisted at McGeorge. However, I wouln't go there over SW. Sorry to hear that Pepperdine didn't come through for you. I, too, have no hopes for Loyola. Once again, I don't think you'd go wrong with SW. My brother just finished his first year PT and loves the school.
I was invited to a part-time information session where I was able to meet with the faculty, including two members of the admissions committee. Basically, they invited about 25 applicants who applied for full time, but who were willing to do evening based on the original application. During the information session, I basically spoke with every single member of the faculty and expressed my desire to attend the school. They obviously liked me, but I think they felt that my career goals and personality fit would best be suited in the full time day program.
As far as additional information, I had a very influential Loyola grad write an additional letter of recommendation after I was waitlisted. I also faxed and mailed a letter of continued interest to the admissions office. When I went into the admission office, I took a quick peek at my file and EVERYTHING was there including random emails that I sent to the assistant dean of admissions, thanking her for meeting with me. If you\\\'re REALLY set on getting a shot at Loyola, I recommend calling the office and asking that you change your seat preference to evening program because the day program was quite literally filled up with only a handful of evening seats remaining. My case was almost a fluke as a student notified them last minute that he no longer wanted to attend. Last year, a handful of seats opened up a couple of weeks before classes commenced... and I literally mean a handful... as in 5 seats. Do the math, 5 seats open for over 200 waitlisted applicants and its really a LOOOONG shot. I highly recommend that you try to shoot for the evening program.
I'm still trying to decide, but it looks like I'm leaning that way. Will I be seeing you there too?
I'll be in the part-time evening program. What about you? If you're deciding over Loyola v. SW, what are your pros/cons towards/against each?
Yeah, I erased the mess. I was tired of looking at it. My acceptance to Loyola was for PT. I'm really more of a day person and I'd like to finish in 3 years. Right now, my first choice is Pepperdine. I withdrew from the night program at Loyola. I didn't think I had a shot at the day. URM status may help you, but you've not listed your scores or grades. If it's any help, if you want to stay in L.A.,Southwestern is great. My brother is very happy there.
I can't believe that I got waitlisted at UoP and Santa Clara. I really expected to get in to both and not to Pepperdine or Loyola day or night. I had a pretty good run considering my LSAT and being an ORM.
My brother just received a mailing from Southwestern. Out of 261 seeking employment last year, 254 are employed. He is going there part time eve and has done very weill. He could transfer to Loyola in a snap. I don't think he will even apply. He is very happy and is getting a great education. If you want to go full time, then I'd pick Southwestern. Anyway, I released my PT spot at Loyola. I hope you get it.
I'm in the Day Division, so I guess taht's full time.
have you checked the loyola page lately? seems as though last week a lot of ppl got taken off the wl and accepted. lucky bastards eh?
dude we all want to go so badly! I kept it full time, i don't want to go to law school for four years! But, at this point it looks like I'm going to be attending SW in the fall! btw, I'm also at UCLA - maybe that's how they choose the waitlist kids..
are you applying PT to loyola? PT is 3.5 years? ..hmm.. i would have to think about it, and I'd have to consider the time that school would be done in relation to when the BAR is offered... I can't believe I'm talking about the bar exam already! anyways.. UCLA law has made it hard for me to focus, cuz it's my dream school and I have a small glimmer of hope, so everything in my mind is either UCLA or NOT UCLA.. GOOD LUCK!!
I'm not sure what happened with me. I got WL at Loyola. I was kind of surprised, because I thought I would get in easily. A week later, I sent an updated copy of my resume and a letter telling them I'm open to the PT program. Then, bam! Acceptance to day, 2 weeks later. I'm happy, but baffled.
Thanks for the kind words. I got in full-time. I've decided against it, though. Maybe you'll grab my spot...? Good luck.
Hey congrats on your acceptances, I still can't bring myself to apply.
Sorry for the lack of updates, but looks like I may be seeing you around mid-wilshire in the fall. I'm doing the evening program, though.
hey I'm in section A too! I didn't even know those papers had a due date, I'll try and send them out today!
Yeah, I'm in Section A. From other comments, I assume you're in Section A also so I bet I'll be seeing you in class. By the way, I am willing to trade my loans for your newly acquired scholarship. Deal or no deal?
yup, Hastings for sure. I withdrew from W&L today after almost submitting deposit. Officially enrolle at Hastings. I withdrew from LLS too, so good luck with that if you're still waiting!
aaah! I'm getting so nervous.. we have some sort of classes all next week, have you bought books yet? or the reading pack for week 0?
Thanks. I think you have a good shot at all the schools, especially pepperdine (of your top choices). Being an under represented minority should increase your chances as well. I know you don't want to leave CA, but you have a great chance as Hofstra. What is your undergrad major?
