:-(

04/24 - I got calls from Penn State and Mayland today. No formal offer of admission from either one. They both said they would let me know later this week, but it looked like I would be admitted to both schools. STILL waiting on SMU and the rest pending. SMU said they were mailing off all the letters on the 30th....which is a Sunday. I hope they mail them all Friday, so I receive it Saturday.

04/25 - Maryland called me today and offered me a seat in the Evening program. (I only applied to the evening program). They said a packet would be mailed today with all of the information.

04/26 - Penn State accepted via e-mail. Program is reduced load. One less class fall and sping semesters and then two in the first summer. The next two years will be completed as usual. Should be good for class rank, but I am still undecided if I will accept the offer.

05/01 - Deferred and then WAITLISTED at SMU!! ??!!! Cannot believe this.

05/01 - Rejected at MN. Why did they contact me and ask me to apply there after the admissions deadline and then reject me. So frustrating, but not suprising. Enjoy the $65!!!

05/01 - Excellent day...rejected from UNC as well.

Too bad I did not get a high LSAT score.

Oh the similarities...

Howdy fellow white girl from Dallas! I grew up there before moving on to places that have never been as good. You and I have similar numbers and belong to similar organizations. Just thought I'd drop you a "howdy." I hope things start looking up for you soon. I agree, I didn't think that the LSAT would matter so much more than a stellar GPA...these places just don't know what they're missing! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

Did you ever consider applying to University of Vermont? Very into environmental law and not so focused on the LSAT (which I agree is the key ingredient..:( Good luck!

Thanks for checking in on me, I feel so special! I have vien some thought to transferring into a 'better' school once I have spent a year in law school, Yale was recommending that to me, that way they can see whether or not the person can hack it in law school and the risk is removed for them. Are you thinking similar things? I just hate the thought of having to move my household twice!!:P I have a good feeling about Penn for you! Just a hunch... Are you thinking of putting in more applications anywhere? If so where? You and I seem to have had our eyes on similar schools (I thought about Minnesota, but at the last minute decided against it). What sort of law are you interested in? Feel free to write me anytime... Still keeping those fingers crossed for you.

Lnhutchi- Thanks for the advice. I will check out that place if I do not get in anywhere this year. It depresses and angers me to no end that it is the one score that matters instead of 4 years of hard work in class (that I completed while working full-time). System is not going to change anytime soon, though.

Idmat- I have given a lot of thought of trying the transfer-up routine as well. It is 100% political it seems for first year acceptancesas it affects the rankings. However with the transfers it wont matter. I asked Yale specifically in an online chat about transferring there. I got the impression that they want transfers from top schools (they only take 10 out of 100). Penn State and Northeastern would likely be below their level for transfer. My goal is to get in to Yale one way or another. I want to be a law professor, so it is an ideal school and scenario for me there. However, if I do not go to a full-time program for my first year, I think I will be screwed out of transferring anywhere. I have to FIRST be accepted somewhere for any of this to be relevant. This not knowing about ANYWHERE is killing me! Minnesota actually sent me a letter after their application date, I believe it was on March 6th, saying they wanted me to apply and they would waive the March 1st deadline. I checked up on them and their ranking and was amazed. I will be ticked (but not surprised) if they just wanted my $65. Hehe. It is silly, though, as I would be willing to pay tens of thousand of dollars to them per year if they would just take me. I really dont know of anywhere else to apply at this late in the game. I do not want to go to any school below the top 100. Thank you for your kind words, and I wish you the best as well.

PSU

Even though you don't think that Penn State will get you where you want to be. It is set up right now to jump in rankings over the next year or two. I know for a fact that their average LSAT and GPA are going up this year and while law school applications are down 10%, Penn State's are up almost 40%. I may be a little biased since I am Penn State born and raised, but I really think you would be satisfied with the education you would receive there and the places that you may be able to transfer to. Good luck to you.

Nicolepsu2006- Thank you for the information. If PSU accepts me, I will consider them. I have lived in Dallas my entire life, so a move up north will be a big change. I have not seen their campus yet. I know in 2008 it is going to be finished and really nice. I am a bit concerned about the temporary space that we would have to be in before then, though. Since you go there do you know more? Are there portable buildings, or simply random classrooms that are available throughout the campus? I definitely want to avoid portables. I cant imagine they would stick us in them, though with the cost of law school tuition. I know schools like UTD have them, and they put undergrad math classes and such out there. It is really awful. I hope to hear from Penn soon. Thanks for your feedback. :-)

Penn State

Hey there, i was reading what you were saying about Penn State.. and I just wanted to add that their temporary space is a one huge office building that is very, very nice. It's actually better quality than their current space is now.. and then of course, in 2008 they will re-open their original location and it will be even nicer than this office space. I was up there to visit and they don't have a campus - the entire law facility is in one building, which was pretty surprising to me. Now, though, they have the option of attending law school at the university park campus which is where Penn State undergrad is located.. meaning you'd be on a much bigger campus. I am in at the Carlisle location and thats about 2 hours away from the university park campus. I liked the small town feel of Carlisle, but the fact that its right next to Harrisburg (capital of PA). Anyway, just thought I'd put in my input. I'm not biased towards penn state because I live/go to school in Maryland, but right now it is my top pick. Good luck!

Possiamopete- Thanks so much for the extra information. Knowing there is a decent place to study law at that University definitely makes it more attractive. I just wish I would get an actual acceptance letter from somewhere SOON. :-)

Have you applied to any other schools? I know you want to go to Yale but so does almost everyone on this board. I am seriously rooting for you and hope that you have gotten some positive word from one of your schools. I would really encourage you to not worry so much about rankings (or if you do then understand that part of the reason schools are ranked so high and thought of so well is because they take higher LSAT scores). For what it is worth, I don't really like the system at present either. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but don't close a door simply because a school isn't ranked high enough. It is obvious from your GPA that you can do some quality work. If you publish, and publish, and publish, you can become an academic from anywhere - it just might be harder.

Thanks.

Bg1822- Thank you so much for the kind words and support. Congrats on your admission to Cornell and others! I applied to many schools. All of them are listed. I was rejected from: Cornell, UT, Wake Forest, Yale, Harvard, Boston College, Fordham, UCONN, NYU, and waitlisted at Northeastern. I still have UMN, UNC, and SMU pending. It sounds like I will be accepted to Maryland and Penn State. We shall see. The waiting is the worst! Hopefully, by the end of next week, I will know from just about everywhere. I wish you all of the best as well. :-)

Really? If you go part-time the 1st year that blows your chances to transfer up?

PT
Sunday, April 02 2006 at 08:00 PM

Godwill- Yeah, I know. :-( I am honestly not excited about Penn at all, and I truly do not believe the top ten schools would take me after year one even if I was rank #1 at the school and completed a full load. My spouse was accepted there too, though. So we are waiting to see if we both get in anywhere else. If I go to Maryland and they go to Penn at the Carlisle campus, it could be doable since they are less than 2 hours apart.painful, but doable. We shall see. Penn has had 0% employed in academia while Maryland had 7%. They just do not seem like a good fit for me. I have not 100% crossed them off the list yet, though.

If you want to transer, it is usually best to go to school full time. For your circumstances, you should go to PSU and hope to transfer to Penn.

Hey there hon, I was just checking in to see if anything had been updated. I am glad to see that you have some acceptances, but I completely understand the frustration about getting acceptances from the places you really weren't hoping for. I am currently giving thought to retaking the LSAT in June (since I am no longer in school and won't have anything better to do for the next month) and if I do better, reapply to places and just take the next year off and try to find something else to do with a sociology degree :) Not sure, but it might be my plan. I also understand the difficulty involved in having to coordinate with your hubby's plans--I am doing the same. QU is still offering me a good deal, but being a Southern girl, I really hate the northeast, so... Best of muck to you. Keep me posted as to your decisions.
