Additional info & updates

*Older student returning to school after 10 years as a social worker for homeless teenagers
*Strong personal statement
*Should've done better on the LSAT :(

2008 info: See UPDATE below.
2006:
*Quinnipiac is offering a Dean's Full Scholarship. Also flying me out to visit. Not too shabby. I know they're only a Tier 3, but it is still nice to be courted!

*Admitted to Suffolk--well, good to get into both my back ups--now I have a choice of two!
--Suffolk claims they're preparing a "generous" financial aid packet. We'll see what that means...

*Waitlisted at W&M. Makes me sad. Guess I should've applied earlier.

*Woman from Baylor called me to urge me to aply for a specific scholarship they have that she thought I'd be great for. She said that even though I don't know her, I have an advocate in her. That's really nice! Does that mean they're accepting me??

*Waitlisted at Wisconsin. My husband's sad. That was his top choice for me (his family is there). From the letter it sounds like I have less of a chance there than at W&M. Kicking myself.

*Accepted into Northeastern. Now an official choice of three. Any suggestions, anyone?

9,Apr--Got the financial stuff from Suffolk--$7500 per year in scholarship. Are they nuts! Well, that pushes them out of the running for the most part, since better schools are offering me a lot more money.

10, April--Well, got the rejection from Yale. Can't say that I am shocked since I only had a 0.8% chance of getting in being white with my stats. It's okay though, I was just visiting New Haven this past week and I really hated it. I guess there's my silver lining.

12, Apr.--I have been chosen as a Dean's Fellow at Quinnipiac which comes with full tuition scholarship, a laptop, dinners with the Dean each semester,, personal meetings with area attys and judges. Hmmm...gets pretty darned tempting!

14, Apr--Got an email from Baylor this morning letting me know that I am accepted there. They are pushing for me to try for a scholarship they think I'd be great for--I'd be their first one.
*It's nice to have choices.

*Okay, I'm freakin' out. I know "they" tell you to go to the best ranked school you can get into, which so far is Baylor, and I love Texas, and would be thrilled to return (I think, it has been over 15 years since I've been there!), but QU is throwing a heck of an opportunity at me. What do I do??? Any suggestions out there?

15, Apr.--Beginning to freak out. Anyone out there second guessing all their choices? I am wondering if I ought to put off going for a year and retake the LSAT. Research my choices a little better. Anyone else considering the same? Or is it normal to panic over having to make the decision?

19, Apr--I think I have settled on Baylor. This last week has been a whirlwind of decision making and I have changed my mind like 6 times, but I think I am settled. Barring my world flipping upside-down tomorrow (which it might), I think it's Baylor.

26, Apr.--I have once again flip-flopped in my decision making process and am now back to QU. Can't help it. The Dean calls me and gives me his home phone number. Gotta love that kind of service! That and $96,000 and a laptop goes a long way...
-Also, just not sure I can lend my support to a school that discriminates because of sexual orientation. In my world, it's not Christian to discriminate, but I guess Baptists see it differently.
--Will be saying goodbye to Northeastern soon. Good luck to those heading there.

13, May--Withdrawn from everywhere but QU. Might retake LSAT in June and try again next year, but I still haven't decided. I really don't want to put off my education any further.
--So, does anyone have anything good to say about Connecticut??? I am scared--hate the East Coast...

23, May--Got the waitlist letter from Boston. Actually surprised, I figured I'd get an outright rejection from them. Man, I really should have applied earlier. Let that be a lesson, eh?

UPDATE: Ended up starting @ QU. Decided against it after a while and left on good terms. Applied to Seattle U. and got in. Started in Summer 2007, but learned I had a crappy fin-aid package and left for finacial reasons.

1-07-08 Applied to U. Washington. Sent app in pretty late (1/07/08 for 1/15 deadline).

2-01-08 Got acceptance letter. Wow! That was fast! Super excited. Back to law school with me! Can't wait!!!

LSAT is not everything

Congrats on your acceptances. I would not write off WI yet, though. They seem to value work experience very highly, and yours sounds excellent. I am also a non-traditional student, and was able to visit the school since I am in the Madison area. The dean mentioned that chances of acceptance are significantly influenced by where you are in the admission cycle. Unfortunately, you sent your app in quite late, which reduces your chances. But it also means that they may like you more than it appears from their first response. It also means that if you don't get in this cycle, and re-applied early in the cycle next year you'd probably have a much better shot. Have you given that possibility any thought?

Thanks!

I have given it a little thought, but the decisions getting hard 'cause QU is throwing a lot of money my way. Moving costs might prevent me fom moving after I've settled somewhere, but it's still a thought.

Northeastern could be cool ...

Wow, crazy. Just accross the border & we\\\'re essentially the same in numbers. Right now it\\\'s looking like Northeastern (I really want to be in Boston, plus I like their co-op program) but I have an interview with W&M tomorrow morning, so I may know more by then. Have you decided on Quinnipiac?

Untrue, I statistically had a 0.8% chance with a 158. Not blaming anyone, just stating a statistical fact. A bit testy are we?

Yeah, they flew me out a while ago to check out the school and compete for Deans. Everyone there was wonderful and the reception we all got was great. They really impressed me. I've collected a lot of info in them if you have any questions, I may be able to help. Let me know. :)

it sounds like you need to take a step back from every else's advice...and just decide what's best for you. If you feel like Qpac is a bad fit, then don't go. If you want to wait for a school you want, then wait....that's my two cents. although...that would mean not listening to my advice either!

I am so happy to see a fellow Cougar admitted to UW! There are probably only 5 or 6 in the whole law school.

Congrats on UW, did the dean call you or was it by letter only??
