After my great grandfather passed away due to colon cancer, I straight away went to work in a laboratory. I was really frustrated that the disease had taken away his last years, and I wanted to be able to prevent other people from feeling the pain he did. After looking at the causes and results, I worked on a soluble medicine for a little while, and, after 6 months, I cured cancer.

I am unable to use can openers. They just faze me, get me off my game. I usually just have to stab with a steak knife. Not sure how adcomms will view this.

ADDITIONAL INFO & UPDATES

1-reach
2-higher targets
3-lower targets
4-givens

Some of my dates are a complex number riddle, da vinci code style, to indicate to probing ad comms what day I applied.

After ALOT of consideration, I decided not to apply ED to Michigan.

Thought I had my whole list set, but got a fee waiver from IU-B, and thought why not. This is pretty much it unless I were to get an interesting fee waiver from somebody.

I'll try to keep a running update, but I'll probably forget about and never finish it like I do with every thing else of that nature. (Except for Law School, Ad Comms! I'll work my butt off at Law School!!!)

Everything with a weird number occurred in September. After that, everything else is within a day or two of when it happened.

10/7/08.. Got a fee waiver from Miami.. hmm

also applied to Vandy, IUB

10/8/08..

Not applying to Miami because their application is a hassle. You hear that ad comms? Your application was a pain in my ass, and you lost an applicant because of it.

10/17.. I got my I tunes credit from Alabama that went along with the fee waiver. Feel like that's a crucial part of my cycle and worth mentioning.

Been looking at where I might get my first acceptance, and it looks to be Wash U. Georgetown will probably be the first school to send acceptances, but I doubt I'm the autoadmit group.

11/1.. Applied to Illinois.. Like the school, Like Chicago (where it places), and feel it gives me another good scholarship opportunity

Nov.. Accepted to Alabama. So it begins.

11/19.. in at pitt..

11/24.. in at OSU. sweetness.

12/3.. Status Checker to decision at G'town. Uhoh.

*Update* Rejected. Ouch.

12/9.. Tulane! Takes away some of the G-town bitterness.

12/11.. Virginia Waitlist. Expected.

12/13.. Wash U acceptance. Things are really starting to pick up, its nice to get your decisions early.

12/14.. W & L acceptance. 60K at Tulane. 36K at Pitt. Busy day.

12/30.. IUB acceptance plus 45k scholly.

1/8 Cardozo and Illinois. Also got a fee waiver from ND. Why not?

1/18.. Got this Michigan Hold/not hold e-mail. Confusing.

1/23.. Decision at Vanderbilt, I'm putting my money on Waitlist

1/29 *Update* Wailisted at Vanderbilt, as well as UCLA.

Also got an acceptance to L & C, with a scholly.

2/2 Held at Northwestern, and applied to Notre Dame under parental pressure.

2/13 $15K a year scholly from Washington and Lee. Found out in the midst of losing roughly that same amount in Vegas. Yay!

2/26 Waitlisted at Michigan. Also withdrew from Lewis and Clark and Cardozo.

Hey, Looks like we have somewhat similar numbers GPA wise. I am going to take the LSAT in Oct. and see how that goes. Any helpful hints on how to crack the LSAT and get a good score. Good luck on your applications and I hope you are successful in your endeavors.

I'm taking it VERY personally! I like Penn a lot, the only reason I'm pushing it is because you are applying to Temple so I figured Philly wasen't a big deal for you. Where do you ultimately want to work?

I'd like to talk you into it! There are worse things that could happen than getting in Michigan Law! The only thing I would say is since you're a bit of a splitter you should apply ED somewhere, but if I were you I'd shoot for Columbia or PENN (hint hint)

I'm not sure how big of a boost it actually gives you really, you have the numbers that you're sure to get into get into one of your target schools so ED isn't a huge advantage if you apply widely

Oh, I thought you were taking tomorrow. I guess not with your 171! I think I did well, I was pretty sick but I managed to finish every section with time except for LG, which I finished at at the buzzer. All the tough questions that people are talking about on LSD are ones that I choose the correct answer for (assuming that the consensus is correct :P), so I'm feeling even more confident. We'll have to see, I was feeling really good about June and got stuck with a 165.

You had a very good rational. I was swayed. I think I'm going to go visit the weekend scores come out, see how much I like it, and see if I need to apply ED (because of my score) and then send my app out the following Monday. At least that's my plan at the moment

Alabama, Pitt, OSU,...Congrats. I'm not applying until next cycle but you've got me thinking about Minnesota. I altered my numbers a bit but we're probably numerically very similar. And so I watch vicariously. Keep updating.

Yeah i didn't feel good about bring it up. you seem to have a fair amount of southern/midwest schools listed. if you want to practice in that area Wash U will likely be giving you a fat scholly....your cycle will be legit. good luck!

On Washington U. Being a splitter is definitely making me nervous as well, but I think it just means all the great schools you get into will be a little more unpredictable. Good luck the rest of the cycle!

I can't use can openers either, I talked about it in my personal statement and how horrible it's made my life. I haven't had soup in 10 years. Life's tough.

Honestly, I can't really say much about the city at large. I wasn't keen on it either when I decided to come here (I held out on UVa's WL and withdrew everywhere else) but the money was too much to say no to. They've kept us busy enough that it's tough to see the city, once the weekend hits you just sort of want to relax. StL is StL, there's no hiding that, but the areas that you'll be spending any legitimat amount of time in (Loop/U-City, Forest Park, CWE, Clayton, over around the Galleria) are pretty nice really. North of Delmar is a bit sketchy sometimes, but besides that you'll never really have to deal with any of the problematic parts of town. As for the scholarship, it'll probably depend on who exactly deferred last year. If it was splitters, you might be out of luck, but if not I would expect you'll get the same offer I did. If Wash U doesn't offer you enough, think about W&L too, especially if they toss you some cash. It's a beautiful campus and the people in Lex were super nice. Also, if you think you're willing to live in Bloomington or ChamBana, think about Iowa City. Good luck with the cycle, let me know if you have any more thoughts, and especially good luck with that UVa WL if you decide to stick with it...I know how that one goes.

Bama was actually really great. Out of my whopping two schools, Bama is more than likely the place. I'll actually withdraw from Tulane later this week. I don't see why they would give me a scholly and not you since we have basically the same numbers. Alas, such is this weird game we play.

How's you feeling about your cycle? Have you decided where you want to go if things stay the way they are? Going to WashU's ASD?

- MaskedGinger
  • Friday, March 27 2009 at 08:28 PM

You should have gone to WashU ASD, it was a bit of fun. I'm withdrawing though, I planned the trip before the scholly letter and don't think I'd pay more to go there over Emory (which is likely where I'll be going, unless I get a WL acceptence somewhere). They do have a refundable first deposit, and I expect a lot of people will be missing the deposit deadline, so I was thinking of putting that down and sending a neg email in the hopes they'll bump me up after a bunch of people withdraw. Not sure if it's worth the effort though. So if your cycle ended today, where would you be?

With no scholarship, not even an option. According to my index I should be expecting a decent sized scholarship. I will probably visit them once I know the amount and if it's worth it. Alabama is still ahead and it will probably take a full ride to usurp them.
