Additional info & updates

I'm in love with U Va.

11-30-07
Looks like my cycle starts in earnest. Sent out UVa, Iowa, W&L, Vandy and UChicago apps early this morning before deciding I was too tired to keep going. Here we go.

12-04-07
Round two of applications, covered the rest except ND (whose application is a pain) and UMich and UPenn, who I'm waiting to write "Why?" essays for.

01-02-08
Went to Decision on Georgetown status checker. Oh. God.

01-03-08
In at Wash U over email. Cliche, indeed...but I'm going to law school.

01-04-08
In at Wash and Lee via email.

01-05-08
No letter from Georgetown yet, but it looks like everyone else who's listed a decision recently was either Waitlisted or Rejected. This does not look good for me, as I'm not sure of my ability to ride it out, and it makes me feel pretty awful about my chances at the rest of the t14.

01-07-08
Still no letter from Georgetown, although it might be at my home address. I still can't log into the admitted students' site, so I'm going to assume that since it seems to have been sufficient time since I went to decision for it to let me in if I'd been accepted that I'm not in at all. Ugh. I feel quite sick.

Also, I should really get around to getting my UPenn and UMich "Why" essays done as well as getting my Cornell dean's cert out. I don't think I have the money at the moment to apply anywhere else though, so I'll probably just withdraw my unpaid Emory app.

-----

Called home and had my sister check the mail. Waitlisted at Georgetown. Not even priority. Ugh.

01-10-08
UI-UC status checker went to "Decision - Letter Mailed." Guess we'll see, but I don't feel very good about it. Also, I got an email from UTexas with status checker info and such things, apparently I'm complete. Washington & Lee and Wash U acceptance letter hard copies arrived at home. Still pretty annoyed with GULC, but whatever. I think I can make it in off of the WL if I work for it.

01-14-08
Checked my email today to find an acceptance from Iowa. On top of that, I got an acceptance in the letter from Illinois, which I discovered when my roommate called me. Altogether, a good day. So far it looks like I'm 4-0-1. Hopefully it keeps up but I have a feeling the slew of bad news is coming as the reaches start to respond.

01-26-08
Waitlisted at Vandy, came in the mail today. This is starting to concern me, I'm holding out hope that I can get off of at least one of these waitlists.

01-28-08
Apparently I'm in at GW as of today, when I called to find out if I was complete, as I hadn't gotten the postcard yet. The lady on the other side of the phone told me that not only was I complete but I would be receiving notification of acceptance within the week. Nice to hear after the (not unexpected) disappointment of Vandy's WL.

01-30-08
Got my actual acceptance email from GW today, as well as a $10k/yr scholarship offer from W&L. Altogether, not a bad day.

02-15-08
Columbia rejection today by snail mail. Here it comes...

03-18-08
Since the last post it's been all bad news. The obvious Northwestern waitlist came. I decided to withdraw from Cornell and Emory due to the fact that my applications aren't complete and I'm not that interested in either one. Texas, Notre Dame, Chicago and Harvard all send me rejections. Texas, Chicago and Harvard were all obvious, but Notre Dame was one that I thought might let me in, not that I'd go there. Still waiting to see what Virginia says, if that's a no go it's looking more and more like W&L.

03-21-08
Nothing particularly interesting on the admissions front today, but I visited WashU. It was nice. Given the money they're offering it's probably where I'll end up if the cycle ends the way I figure it will. Honestly though, I'm just posting to rant about Virginia. I'm in love with the damn school, more so than I could ever begin to explain, and it's rough sitting here feeling helpless. I can think of a million proactive things I could do, but I don't know if they would help or hurt my chances.

*sigh*

I would seriously do anything to be there next year. =/

03-28-08
Went to decision on the Virginia status checker...

Oh.....God...

03-31-08
Called UVa admissions, was told that I was on the non-resident priority waitlist. Could be worse, the fact that I'm not on the general waitlist is definitely going to help motivate me to get my act together in getting things to them.

Here goes...

05-06-08
Sent UVa a ton of stuff over the past few weeks...more LoR, a LOCI, binding waitlist form and interviewed. Mostly, the purpose of this update is to reaffirm that I am still indeed in love with UVa. Sounds like the first round of waitlist pulls will happen in the next couple of weeks, here's to hoping...

07-16-08
Officially out of the running at UVa via email last evening. As disappointing as it is, I had pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it wasn't happening and I'm excited to be going to Wash U (and to know for sure that that's where I will be). It was at least good of them to let us know now rather than dragging it out through the summer.

It's over!

That's a lot of applications. I like it. People are saying 6-8 apps, but splitters like us should probably cast a wide net right?

Hi Dadric! Wow, that's a big list. Good luck! I'll be rooting for you.

You are right that we are both ambitious. With a 177, you have every right to be! As for Iowa, I have been to visit the law school and enjoyed the campus. I think I might want to be in a somewhat bigger city, but I'm not going to be too inflexible before I find out what my options are. Good luck to you!

I know what you mean. Can't hurt, especially if you got time! If you do it, try taking a risk with your PS or something. Might as well, they might love it.

Great Split

I always thought if you were going to split, you should split big. Good luck this cycle.

Where are HYS (no one ever knows what they want so you just have to go for it)? and Duke?

Wednesday, January 31 2007 at 07:00 PM

Nah, I went to the University of Nebraska at Omaha...am from Iowa, though, so just moved back to work for a year. My roommate goes to Iowa Law and loves it. And, Iowa City is a great town. Certainly not a bad option if you're looking this way. Best of Luck!

yeah i know, it's better than a rhodes. :) good luck to you too. hope you get into UVA. it's one of my top choices as well. i hear it's great there.

yale
Monday, June 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

i don't know about yale, but i'd be happy at harvard :) i know that UVA doesn't get back to anyone until january so i guess you don't have to worry about submitting early. when are you going to submit?

ugh
Monday, June 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

i feel you on the grades. they are currently in the toilet and i'm trying to recover with this next week or two. though i doubt i will actually make a dent since i'm on LSN and TLS all the time. send them in soon! you'll be so relieved.

Haha
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

I am super excited because I may be going to the game! It'll only be the second game I've gone to; first was the playoff game against the Jets that we barely won after two late missed Jets field goals. This time around, my gf won an office promotion for the tickets. So hopefully I can yell at Ben to throw the ball more! :-) Oh, and thanks for the congrats, and good luck with your cycle!

you applying to law school, or what? I guess you're probably going to have to retake your LSAT to get in anywhere, though.

Thanks man :)
Saturday, June 16 2007 at 08:00 PM

Though, it appears Michigan is going to break the trend and defer me, which sort of sucks. Oh well, I guess I'll live. I'm hoping you get in everywhere you want though ;). Represent the Koopa's proudly in Law School :D

thanks
Tuesday, June 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

who do you think gets an acceptance first? i bet you do.

good luck!

Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

I withdrew from W&L today, so I won't be going to any of their open houses. Congrats on your acceptances. I go to Wash U undergrad and I can tell you that everyone loves going to school here! Good luck with your choice.

complete?
Wednesday, December 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

How'd you know that you were complete at Iowa?

yeah
Wednesday, December 06 2006 at 07:00 PM

That's basically the idea i've gotten from pretty much everyone else, suppose I should quit bothering people about it. Just trying to figure out when I might hear back.

thanks!
Wednesday, October 19 2005 at 08:00 PM

for the NU congrats. I'm really glad to have the waiting come to a good end :) i'm sure you've got more good news coming to you soon!

I hope you are right
Thursday, October 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hey man, congrats on that WUSTL money. Nice

re: Cornell
Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks. I haven't gotten any scholarship info from Cornell. As for Wash U, I'm still waiting just to get accepted. I see they gave you a big scholarship- have you been to visit? I'm still waiting on Chicago as well, but I'm not holding my breath

haha
Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

You can have MY Harvard rejection if you really want one! As for WashU, I'm hoping my GPA is not the problem. Looking on LSN, they haven't sent out any acceptances since early January, so maybe I will get one in the next round.

I think it's about time for some more good news for you. Though you've got some nice ones already, esp with the sholarships. Going to the UIUC asd?

Are you fond of british conservative politics? David Cameron? Would you play frisbee in front of the IMU? Is this who i think it is?

just curious
Friday, February 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

Why W&L over WUSTL?

welcome!
Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

Welcome to the Lou! How has your visit gone? The weather was so nice on Friday! I'm torn on my decision. I know Cornell is T14, but I love it here and the money offfer is a great bonus. Looking at LSN, it looks like WUSTL has a good class so far. I'm going to make a decision soon **fingers crossed** I swear

Nah...

Friday, September 28 2007 at 08:00 PM

Threw down my deposit too! I know you are really hoping for UVA and (as much as I would like you at WashU) I'm really hoping you get off the waitlist there :)

Keep hope alive
Thursday, July 06 2006 at 08:00 PM

I was in the same boat as you last year (check my profile) and got into UVA in early May. While I have no inside knowledge, definitely be sure to send a LOCI, etc. I think it made the difference for me...Good Luck!

Thursday, October 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

I just don't know. At first, I was all ready to go down and interview, but now exhaustion has set in. I just want to cycle to be over, and I'm pretty happy with the schools that weren't afraid to commit. I'll probably only change plans if I get off a waitlist with a big financial incentive. I think the WL spots should go to people like you who really want in. You hear that, UVa adcomm? Let Dadric in! Besides, the fewer splitters vying for a spot, the better for you :) Let them know how much you want it. Good luck!

Thanks
Sunday, July 01 2007 at 08:00 PM

Regardless of the WL, its nice to know I have a top 20 school in my pocket. I've only been to STL a couple times, and although I love the washu area, I'm not a big fan of the city at large. Is there anything about the city thats really struck you as nice? Also, chance of the 90K scholarship going to splitters this cycle? 0%, right? I'm probably looking at 60K.

Saturday, July 14 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the well-wishes. I watched your cycle last year with great interest. How's WUSTL?

You caught me...
Monday, June 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

That's where I went. It makes me happy when people have heard of it! I hope you're enjoying WUSTL. It's such a pretty campus.

Sunday, June 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

I appreciate the comments on my wall. WUSTL is a solid number 2 right now on my prospects... the campus just looks so unbelievable. Do you have any idea when I should expect to hear about scholarships?

Tuesday, December 02 2008 at 07:00 PM

UNI actually...I'll graduate in May. How do you like Wash U?

Thank for the advice!
Monday, June 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

Haha, I suppose my claim is a bit disputable, but I stand by it. I loved my time there and it was a great experience. Thanks for the advice about the way study abroad is looked at. I guess I never considered that. I think you're right about focusing on a summer opportunity. At this point, I'm 95% sure I'll be at Iowa unless I get some big money from Florida. I have friends at Iowa and it's such a great school, it's incredibly hard to say no!

re: Pshaw
Tuesday, September 09 2008 at 08:00 PM

Haha. Maybe I'm not a "real" splitter after all...As for WashU, I'm hoping to get in before I start thinking about getting any money from them. I like WashU a lot would choose it over most of the schools I am applying to... Are you a 2L there? Do you like it?

hmm
Tuesday, April 04 2006 at 08:00 PM

I feel so bad for you. I love love U. of Virginia also...this is how you kno there is no god.
