Additional info & updates

All applications have been completed, all transcripts and LORs have been turned into the LSAC, as well as all supplemental documents have been sent to the law schools. All I have to do now is wait.......

10/29: My applications are now officially complete at all schools.

10/31: While at work, I decided to check the online status checker at UGA. I was surprised to find out that I had been rejected. I know they have a rigid policy of restricting their out of state student population to 25%, but I would have at least thought I would have been deferred until spring before they made their final decision based on my statistics alone. It was not my top choice or even in my top 5-6 choices, but it makes me rethink the law schools I have applied to. I know most are reaches, but I believed I had selected a few good schools which I would be excited to attend and which I should gain acceptance. If I continue to hear similar responses to UGA, I may have to consider applying to more safety schools.

11/10: L.A. Law School Forum: I met with each of my remaining prospective schools (UGA was not in attendance which indicates they truly may not be interested in recruiting CA students); Washington and Lee was the only other school not in attendance, they cancelled at the last minute). Since I have already applied to these schools, I focused my questions towards what each school provides for their students in terms of clinics, journals, summer placements and after school job placements.

I met with the Director of Admissions of Wake Forest who was absolutely amazing! She spent ample time answering my various questions, talking about the community, and really providing a true sense of the great opportunities Wake Forest Law can provide. She possibly may have sold me on WF if I get admitted.

The Assistant Deans from both Washington Univ. St. Louis and William and Mary were both awesome as well. Very warm, friendly and really discussed in depth the various opportunties their law students have during and after school.

Vanderbilt and Georgetown both had current students who offered a great deal of information, from how the handle the work load, how they work with career services, as well as the various clinics, journals, moot court or other opportunities they and their classmates have enjoyed at each of these schools.

American, Univ of San Diego and UNC all offered great insight into what programs hey offer, what areas most of their students place highly, and what special opportunities they provide for each of their students.

In all, the law school forum was a success and I am definitely looking forward to possible acceptance at any of these fine institutions.

12/05: Decision Status Checker at Georgetown now states "Decision." .... I'm being optimistic!!!

12/10: 0/2; Georgetown Ding,,, I knew it was coming based off the results of individuals who went to decision around the same time... I just can't wait to get an acceptance!!!

12/24: No updates from any of my schools. The wait is killing me and my fiance! We were hoping for a nice Christmas present... I guess we will have to wait until after the New Year...

1/15: Online Status Checker at Vanderbilt shows that my decision was mailed today. Based off of individuals with similar results who have received decisions lately, it looks like I will be rejected. I guess I was being optimistic when I thought I would at least get wait-listed based off of last years class with similar numbers. But so far this year, a number of individuals with similar stats have already been rejected and I'm sure I will be next.

1/16: I'm going to law school!!! In at USD! Large envelope...I' m excited about this decision because the school means a lot to my fiancee and I... Hopefully more good news to come!!!

1/19: Waitlisted at VANDY!!!!! Never saw it coming!! I am definitely going to do everything I can to get in!

1/28: My fiancee and I have decided that we will be staying in San Diego and I will attend USD this upcoming fall. I will remain on the waitlist for Vandy since it is my dream school and if by some miracle I get in, I will more than likely attend. Since I paid for the applications to these other schools, I will wait and hear final decisions before I withdraw. Good luck all!

2/25: Paid deposit at USD. Still no news from other schools. I wonder if I accidently deleted a "waitlist" from Wake Forest. Most students with similar numbers received an email waitlist on 02/20. Oh well, I guess I will have to call if I do not hear anything by mid-March...

3/08: Waitlisted/Withdrew from American

3/12: Scholarship from USD for 17K for first year, elgible for further scholarship consideration the next two years..

3/24: Waitlisted at WFU and William and Mary

4/05: Updated Scholarship Offer from USD! Hopefully they will keep adding to the offer as people continue to withdraw!

04/30: Accepted at Wake Forest Law and waitlisted at UNC via email. Nice letters from both schools. I have already made up my mind and I will be withdrawing from both schools, but it is definitely a nice gesture to be in such a position at two excellent schools!

05/08: Paid second seat deposit at USD!!!

05/30: Cycle over.... for all those who are going to attend USD... See you in the Fall!!!

State schools are hard to gauge - I'm sorry about the UGA ding. I'm not one to talk about keeping your goals reasonable (I have no business applying to UVA), but a few more safeties would at least ensure an acceptances. Where do you want to practice after law school?

Wow, that's amazing with UGA. Really sorry. I'm a In-stater and visiting the law school next Friday (9th). Hopefully I won't get screwed, at least before my supposed visit. Really sorry and best of luck with the rest of your cycle.

I was afraid of the same problem you ran into with UGA and decided to play it safe and add about 5 extra schools....just in case.

I really want to practice in my hometown, the D.C. area, so most of my schools have decent employment prospects in the Mid-Atlantic. Judging by your school list, you seem to be a little tired of California.

I'm really shocked by the UGA ding... I definitely think it has to do with yield protection - they don't think you're coming to georgia from california so it's one more rejection they can add for USNews. Don't let that get you down. You will definitely get into schools on your list. And I think you may even be pleasantly surprised by a few. Good luck!

State Schools

As someone said previously, state schools can be tricky, especially ones like UGA which serve states with few public law schools relative to the state's population. I noticed you have quite a few schools in the southeast. Some other good schools in the southeast that are a little lower ranked than UGA, but are still good schools, are Florida St., Florida, Miami, and Tennessee. Not sure if you've considered these schools previously, but they might be good "safety" or "safer" options.

Good luck with your apps... it seems like we're applying to a lot of the same places... I hope you start hearing more positive news soon... How did you figure out your LSDAS GPA?

On Midwest Schools

No, I didn't plan it; it just turned out that way. I'm interested in doing a particular joint degree and it seems that a number of midwestern schools offer that program. I haven't intentionally targeted midwest or northeastern schools, even though I much more enjoy four seasons in a year instead of two (hot and not so hot). If living in Northern Virginia has taught me anything it's to appreciate living in an area where the normal high temp in July and August is below 90 degrees.

Hey! I'm rooting for you-- I loved everyone in the administration I've met at both Wake and W&M, which are both on your list! I heard from Wake in a First Class mail envelope yesterday. Good luck!

I never looked at the thing so I couldn't really tell you. I pretty much knew I'd be rejected with my numbers so there was no point in checking my status...haha.
