Extra Curricular Information

If you are a URM check out:

"Soft Factors"
Received a full-tuition scholarship to top college prep HS in New England.

I've worked since the age of 14.
20-30 hr/week while an undergrad and full-time since graduating in 2006.

7 years of educational non-profit work experience and community involvement, including undergrad work-study.

4 years of community work specifically with low-income, Latino communities on educational equity and immigration issues.

3 years of community work with veteran's rights and PTSD after my partner was severely injured in Iraq.

2 years working with diversity department of Legal non-profit. Helped develop a College-to-Law School program and printed manual to assist undergraduates of color through the law school application process and legal profession.

I know my LSAT/GPA is not the best, but I've overcome many obstacles and I hope law schools can factor that into their decision. :/

I've hesitated to put myself out there on TLS and LSN but I am convinced that many URM will benefit from this info.

5/6/09 Seattle or DePaul...I just can't decide. Flying to Seattle next week. Anyone have any input?

4/25/09 NM no more. Shortest rejection letter ever. This one really really really hurts.

4/15/09 Withdrawing was so hard...I was accepted by such great legal institutions!!

3/20/09 Dear UCLA, we had fun in undergrad but you don't want me anymore! Love, Me.

UCLA and UofA not huge surprises...I'm flying out to visit a schools next week, so things are looking up!

3/4/09 I can't help but feeling like I'm just waiting for the rest of schools to give bad news...I hope not. Even if that's the case, I'm grateful for all the acceptances I've received.

2/23/09 Got a call from UDM, I'm in!! yay :)

2/17/09 It had been kinda quiet...acceptance from Thomas Jefferson School of Law!

Now if only financial aid packages would come...

2/9/09 Email notification that Tulane app is now under review. L&C app has been deferred.

Rejection from American and I'm okay with it...especially since they glued my rejection letter to another rejection letter and it was open. Very classy, American. Thanks!

2/7/09 Surprised about the MSU wait list (small white envelope), didn't see that coming. As I've said, I applied to a lot of schools, so I won't post the complete list until after my cycle.

Anxious to hear back from Vanderbilt, I had a great interview with them last week.

4:39pm. No mail, where's my mailman? Ugh.

2/6/09 Haven't been able to log in to my LSN account in awhile! So many updates, I had string of rejections and 3 very important waitlists. Most importantly, I'm in at Hamline (call from dean), Loyola New Orleans (status checker), and Loyola Chicago (call from dean)!

1/28/09 Confirmed that I'm complete everywhere and under review in at least 5 schools. And finally, first rejection, it burns.

1/26/09 Loyola Law in LA status checker says decision was sent today and I should be receiving it in the mail this week. (I'm freaking out...hoping its good news.)

1/23/09 Western State Univ called I was accepted with $12,000 per year!

1/21/09 Just got a call from SIU: Accepted! They are sending a package with more information. Yay I'm 2-0! SIU is one of my favorites!

1/20/09 Happy Inauguration Day! Did my taxes and FAFSA. I will do Need Access tomorrow.

1/15/09 Seattle U emailed me today with status checker info and I logged on and my status is "decision pending". Wonder if I will get a decision soon?!

1/14/09 Marked Gonzaga as complete today, although who knows when I went complete! I called them today and they said my application was "in review".

Just called Southern Ill. they said a decision will be made by next Wednesday. OMG!

1/13/09 I called Depaul today and my application is complete (I think). I made a mistake on the app and checked Yes on planning to retake the LSAT.

Called UCLA and they said they have received the app and "processing is in progress" so give them a call in 2 weeks to update.

UC Davis says "processing in progress" too.

Waiting sucks. My job won't give me my W-2 until this Friday. Argh.

1/10/09 Yay! I got my first acceptance to Texas Southern! It came in small white envelope. Good to know someone wants me :)

12/19/08 - UC Davis approved the fee waiver request! Yay! They didnt automatically grant me a fee waiver, even though I had the LSAC fee waiver. I went complete at UNM and almost all the apps have been received. Wait Wait Waiting game!

12/10/08 - I've gone complete at 2 schools and 5 schools have received my app! Eek, so anxious! I'm kinda glad I'm leaving the country in 4 days and will NOT have internet access for 25 days because I would be compulsively clicking the refresh button all month long!

12/09/08 - Working on finishing the last bunch of apps...

12/5/08 - FYI, I received the LSAC fee waiver..that's why I'm applying to so many schools!

11/30/08 - All Application materials are finally completed, five days later than I planned but good nonetheless! Now the submitting madness begins.

10/13/08 - I postponed applying last year. Took the Oct LSAT, hoping the score increase was substantial :X

I looked at your profile again, and I am quite proud of your accomplishments. I am originally from CA myself. How did you enjoy New England? Loyola New Orleans came in a medium sized envelope. Do you want to stay in California?

  • DePaul
  • Monday, January 12 2009 at 05:47 AM

DePaul never sent me any notification that they had received my app or that I had gone complete. I called the admissions office and they told me I was complete. You may want to call as well.

Congrats on TSU! That was a quick turnaround! I have a friend that's a 1L there! As for CLEO, I applied back in early December, and they requested my report after my Dec score came in; so far all I have received was a letter stating that they have received my application. According to TLS, people who applied back in Sept/Oct, started receiving acceptances. I'm not holding my breath for a response soon, but I can only hope!

Well its still early in the cycle and I'm sure other schools will want you. I also just checked my SU tracker and mine is also in review. Hoping for a decision soon.

  • Thanks
  • Tuesday, February 17 2009 at 02:14 PM

No, I haven't visited yet, but hope to do so soon. As to your other question, I really prefer to look at all of my acceptances on equal footing (even the "reaches"). I really will take a look at all of my offers and give them all equal consideration. I thought I could at least take as much care toward considering them as they did when they were considering me for admission. But that's just me.

But get this----it came in a SMALL WHITE ENVELOPE. I nearly died at first lol. :) Since I work for UNM now it'd be nice b/c of the tuition remission but my heart is set on Cornell if I get in. I've done all I can so all I can do now is hope I'm what they're looking for. How are things for you?

  • Thursday, April 23 2009 at 08:32 AM

hey hey!! i think i'm going to the univ of wisconsin, its just a better fit for what i want, and although tulane gave me $$ their tuition is ridiculous, so it wont be a crazy amount more to go to u wisc for sticker price. i hope u get off the waitlist there!! whats ur first choice otherwise, how did u like the school?? i havent been able to visit, as i've been traveling w/ my job :o

- rosieposie
  • Sorry
  • Thursday, April 23 2009 at 01:59 PM

it took so long to get back. I've been busy writing ANOTHER LOCI. :) I have withdrawn all apps except Cornell. Its pretty much a dream school for me and going to wait it out and see what happens. If not, I will retake LSAT and try again next year. I just figured that might be what i have to do if its worth that much to me. How about you? I hope you're well and get whatever you want as well.
