Additional info & updates

4/23: Final ding from U of Hawaii. Bummed I won't be going home for school, but stoked that I'll be headed to TJSL in San Diego instead. Wow so I guess this is it, my cycle is finally complete.

Now, I have other things to worry about. I've decided to pursue a position as a Judge Advocate in the Marine Corps and am about to find out in the next week or so if my package is accepted. At this point, I'm planning on attending 10 weeks of officer candidate school this summer.

Good luck to you all!

--------------------------------------------------

4/2: Seat deposit given to Thomas Jefferson today. Rejected at Howard. I've heard many good things about TJSL and am looking forward to San Diego if this is where I eventually end up. Good luck to everyone with the rest of this cycle!

---------------------------------------------------
3/24: "Denied Admission", according to Seattle U's status checker. Straight up. Its official, looks like I won't be living in Washington much longer.

---------------------------------------------------

3/17: Emailed Howard and was told a decision has been rendered and I should receive "something via postal within the next two weeks." Also emailed Hawaii and was told I can expect a decision sometime in mid-April. I don't think I'm auto-reject material at these schools, but who knows.

-----------------------------------------------------

3/11: And I'm back. Zzzzzz, still waiting to hear from Hawaii, Seattle, and Howard. I just received a email from Hawaii's financial aid office that looked a lot like an acceptance letter - but it only said that my SAR was received. Boo.

-----------------------------------------------------

2/17: Waitlisted at Golden Gate. Still waiting for UW, UH, SU, & Howard.

-----------------------------------------------------

2/7: Rejected at USF - ouch. Expected it.

-----------------------------------------------------

2/2: Accepted at Thomas Jefferson, U of La Verne, and St Thomas today. The law gods are looking down favorably on me. However, I have not received any financial aid award letters yet, probably since I just completed the FAFSA two weeks ago.

-----------------------------------------------------

1/24: Accepted at Florida A & M. I was surprised since their deicison took only two weeks after I went complete.

-----------------------------------------------------

1/22: USF online checker said my application was complete on 12/12. However, it changed that date to 1/22. Hopefully this doesnt prolong the wait!

-----------------------------------------------------

1/16: Waitlisted at New England through snail mail.

-----------------------------------------------------

1/16: "In Review for Access Admission Program" at Seattle U. They say a decision will be made no later than April. Its an an apprently competitive program where 400 students on average are considered for about 30 people.

-------------------------------------------------------

1/14: Waitlisted at John Marshall Atlanta through email.

1/12: Accepted at Texas Southern through snail mail.

12/18: Rejected from Santa Clara (ED) through snail mail. Will be reviewed a second time around though.

Absolutely not! I'm going to law school to do something completely different from the military. I'm too afraid I'll spend 3 years in law school only to go back into the military to spend my time researching courts martial and trying kids for drug use and showing up late for work...blah!!! The military has had more than enough of my time. I'm ready for a total change.

"Is there any chance for them to change their mind the second time around?" Yes, but you'll have to put in some *extra* effort. Some things you can do: 1. Take the LSAT in Feb. They might not officially take the Feb LSAT but if you can pull off an amazing score, I'm sure it'll help. 2. Send additional LORs from references that know you well. 3. Maybe an updated resume (assuming you can get some relevant experience between now and when they look at your app again).

I mentioned in the above post about pulling off an *amazing LSAT score* ... it doesn't have to be amazing. If you can even increase it to mid-150s (although still below their 75 percentile), you'll improve your chances immensely. Good luck!

TSU
Sunday, November 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hi! We applied to a lot of the same schools. :) I don't know too much about TSU either. I was considering it a "safety" but who knows if I will get in anywhere else. I applied because my parents now live in Texas. I heard the school has great academic support services and lots of diversity. Two things that were really important factors in choosing a law school for me.

Hey there, I applied to Seattle about 10/28 or so, and got the acceptance package the day after Christmas. I think I was one of the first people to hear back from them, but it seems like they start releasing most of their decisions in mid-January. Best of luck to you!

Thursday, December 04 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thank you! Good luck to you! I regret not applying to University of Wsshington..too late now since their deadline was yesterday

Monday, June 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey, I got asked from NESL if i wanted to be on the waitlist as well. I declined because I saw in their letter to me that a decision for waitlisted applicants would not be made until right before school would start. Dont you think that's pretty ridiculous and i was just wondering why you choose to go on the waitlist.

Seattle U.
Tuesday, December 16 2008 at 07:00 PM

Good luck on Seattle U. and the rest of your cycle. I'm also hoping to get in through the "special admission" program...

Monday, August 18 2008 at 08:00 PM

when u were sent that emai lfrom jmls waitlisting you, did our online status checker say "in committee review" before you get that email, and also what does your status say now?

I hear from USF via email first, then a couple of days later received a big packet via snail mail. I turned mine in Mid-November, so I'm sure you'll be hearing soon! Good luck!!

FAMU
Monday, June 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

What are your thoughts on FAMU....if it does in fact get fully accredited this june?

Hey!
Sunday, November 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

I haven't checked on your profile in awhile. Congrats on your acceptances! We've gotten in a couple of the same schools. I'm waiting on Seattle too under the Access Admissions Program. Just so much waiting to do, but at least we are more than half way through this!

FAMU
Monday, June 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

I visited the school this past friday. My parents live about 40 minutes away so i decided to apply for the heck of it. Since i attend FSU for undergrad the FAMU main campus is up here in tallahassee as well. Since FAMU here doesnt have the best reputation, due to their past president and all the problems they have encountered, i was visiting with the thought that the school was less than below par. I have to say though that i was more than astonished and impressed. The facility is absolutely beautiful and is in a good location in downtown orlando. I spoke with the head of admissions and she gave me a tour and told me that the ABA would be by this past week to evaluate them again. She, along with the students i spoke with, expect to be fully accredited and the public would know around june. I went again today on my way back up to tallahassee and i loved it even more. If they do get fully accredited and me being a florida resident, i will probably decide to go there. Along with being close to family, the cost is sooooo soooo cheap (compared to nova and st. thomas) and the campus, in my opinion, is a lot nicer than nova's law school as well as st. thomas. let me know if u want any more info, but otherwise thats my opinion of the school.

Congrats first of all on your cycle! :-) No snail mail or email from Howard. I just received a large envelope in the mail, however my letter was dated 3/12 and I received it 3/23. So, they may be right when they stated that you should receive something in 2 weeks :-) What is your top choice?

Thanks

I recieved a large envelope and email from Howard.

Sorry.

Friday, April 03 2009 at 08:00 PM

on texas southern. I'm not for sure if you decided to go here or not but have they sent you any financial aid information yet as to about how much in scholarships or grant money you would be receiving?

Howard Law
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Good luck on Hawaii! Last week I visited Stetson and fell in love with the school! However, Loyola is offering money so I think I'll go visit them before I make a final decision. At least you received an email though....the only time I received an email was when my application was complete. After that, I heard nothing until I received my envelope in the mail. I would call again (their could possibly have been a postal service mix-up). If you don't receive anything by Friday, I would give them another call. Hoep this helps :-)

USF!
Tuesday, December 16 2008 at 07:00 PM

I'm leaning towards USF heavily! I think I'll end up here! I go visit next week. Yes, S.U stung. But everything happens for a reason! You'll enjoy Diego. I have a friend who is a 1L at TJ and she loves it..
