Are all of your apps for Fall 2009?
We are applying to a lot of the same places! Good luck!
Hey! I see we're applying to similar schools and you're a fellow full-time volunteer :) Congrats on some great fee waivers! Wishing you all the best this cycle!
My practice test ranged from 164-171 and I scored a 150 on the real test. I just feel as if all my hopes for the top schools are shot. I'm so surprised I was even waitlisted at UVA. But, I've seen on here some people who were accepted to t-14 with scores in the 150s so I decided to go with it. I'm in the honors program and my gpa is a 3.69 with a lot of softs. I'm just scared i won't get into ANY law school lol
Oh yeah, I've applied to Teach for America and the New York City Teaching Fellows in case I don't get into law school
I promise this is my last post for the day. How did you know you were complete at Georgia? Did it tell you or was the reccomender's box and app box just filled. I received an email saying I could check it online but don't know if it's complete or not.
Law schools LOOOOVE Teach for America. I think it's really great that you did that so first of all...Kudos! Secondly, I think you will be competitive and I'm so glad that you've chosen some great schools. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with acceptances this cycle.
I'm def going. It was my number 1 and I'm GA resident so it makes sense. I'm thinking about buying a townhouse, so if you decide to go and need a place to live give me a shout. Goodluck and Congrats. BTW I visited the campus and really liked it.
I thought I had applied to EMORY but didn't sent it till today..lol. Anyways I've appliced to NW and Cornell as well. I want to get denied to at least some schools..lol.
I'm doing patent law (where prestige doesn't matter so much) so I'll really have to think hard about how to justify the extra $$ for those schools (Emory/NW). I actually spoke to a NW patent attorney who works in ATL and he said UGA would serve me better..lol.
I saw you post on TLS, Congrats on Georgia!! for some reason, I've been really feeling them lately... I hope to send my application this weekend. Did they provide you with any scholarship info?
Congrats on your acceptances so far.
Good Luck with your cycle! We are applying to many of the same schools in FL and NC!
they sent a big envelope..ups. and a nice blue folder. Congrats on your acceptances!
...this cycle. My top pick is UCLA because of a program they have. I intereviewed with an NU alum last week. Did you sign up for any interview with them?
Congrats on all of your acceptances thus far!
Thanks!! Even though I'd love to go to Cornell, I've been doing research and UGA is going to be my best bet. Cheap tuition, Ranked like 32 and COL is dirt cheap. Cornell is going to be super cold and super expensive! Plus, my dogs don't like the snow! So, maybe we'll see each other at UGA!
that was a mistake
oh, and congrats on georgia. i never even thought to apply because i thought it was too much of a reach.
I'm from a military family and have lived all over. I wanted to go to NY or back to CA but, my brother and I have been doing a lot of calculations and I could see myself practicing in Atlanta considering all the factors. I would have a better overall quality of life and money left over each month which I wouldn't have if I go back to Cali or NYC. So, as much as I have said I hate Atl, I think I would like it more if I actually was able to afford living here ya know?
You gotta remember most of their graduates WANT to stay in the south so that explains a lot in their employment statistics. I'm also thinking of maybe moving to Texas.
My interview went great. It was with a 3L. He dove right into my resume and we talked about that for about an hour. Then I met with a couple of club members from different groups, sat in on an afternoon lecture. All around great day. As far as my chances I won't even attempt to guess. The worse they can say in NO:-) Obviously, it's top of my list but somewhere has to be and it might as well be a good school in a great area. I hope to be wearing purple soon, but time will tell.
It was actually a little weird. I received an email from Brooke Sandoval (Dean of Adm.) inviting me to a WCL event. It read "American University Washington College of Law Multicultural Development Committee cordially invites you as a "recently admitted student" to attend a "First Thursday Reception." The reception is tomorrow in D.C. but I don't think I'm going. But it was weird mainly because it wasn't a typical acceptance letter/email. I wish you the best of luck though with AU and all.
So...just got a package from American. It's a large blue folder from WCL with my acceptance letter, ect.
I checked last night and saw that it had changed. Whew...I wasn't expecting to see that so soon. Good luck!
I must've have been checking toooo late last night. Because I just checked again and that's NOT what it said. Ex that...no under review for NU. Good...I was getting nervous thinking it went through too soon.
The information inside gives you an ID# to set up your account in which scholarship information will be posted in the spring. But in reference to what and where I want to practice...I think it depends on where I get in. At most of my schools (Berkeley, AU, Chicago, U. Penn, Cornell, ect.), I will probably focus on international intellectual property law. However, if I end up attending UCLA, NYU, Columbia, or USC I will probably go into entertainment law. But regardless I'd like to practice in California, hence why Berkeley is my #1 and UCLA is my ED school. What about you!?
I think it really comes down to being a personal choice. I promised myself I would go to the school that was the "best fit" for me and if it's $$$ or $ I wanted to go for it. In reality, this won't happen :-) I'm starting to think that if I can get an excellent education for a fraction of the cost and still be happy I think I'm going to go for it.
I'm applying to the Accelerated JD program. The interview was mandatory. And it had to be on campus. So I didn't have a choice. But I was more than happy to go because I'm from Chicago. I met with the Black LSA, Latin LSA, and a couple of other students that were members of various clubs. But most of the students attended each others club meetings. Of the 3 or 4 people I spoke with I think they knew every student on campus. Very friendly collegial just like the brochure says:-) It was like a high school cafeteria. Just a bunch of people hanging out.
Congrats on all your acceptances. I hope the continue to roll in. I'm currently a proud Seminole for undergrad. I would have to say my top choices would have to be the new york schools I've applied to, since I really would like to practice up there. What are your top choices?
e-mail. I got an e-mail saying "your application appears to be complete." i sent my app originally in October and they never got back to me until recently. I guess they're just sorting out the wave of apps for next year. Is there anyway to know how many people who apply to law schools actually use this website?
Yes I applied non-binding ED to Cornell. But there were some major issues. About 2 weeks ago the status checker said I had no app on file although LSAC said it was transmitted a month ago. And then they said they didn't have an email addresss for me which is why my status checker was like that. And on Nov 21 I had an app on file, and it was complete, and I had gone to decison--Almost overnight. So I'm not expecting good news. But last friday the same status checker had gone from "decision" to "applied". So it hasn't been all peachy with Cornell. I guess we'll see.
Thanks...I have not been watching the status checker recently, but my acceptance letter is dated December 3rd.
I'm not sure just yet so I want to see how the rest of the cycle finishes up. The scholarship at MSU is wonderful, but I went there for undergrad. And I have a lot of people close to my heart in Florida, so there is a definte draw there. How about you? Are you leaning towards any schools or areas?
Those are great schools and it sounds like you have a lot to offer :) I plan on going into public interest law. What type of law do you plan on practicing?
That's wonderful! Both to you wanting to do public interest also and TFA! That's an amazing program :) What a small world--I am actually volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters through AmeriCorps. And just like you, I defintely want to continue to help make a difference and be an advocate for those most in need.
is a fantastic program. I'm sure we have similar stories and experiences. if we do happen to end up at Cornell, I want to stay in touch. I love talking to people who understand the challenges and rewards of working with at-risk children. I hope you get your first choice.
It was in response to Duke. I think I'm prob on waiting list.
Thank you for your comments. Yes, I was an EA applicant. I should also be hearing from BC really soon.
I think my interview went pretty well....but of course I think it could have gone better. I think I'll probably hear near the end of 8 weeks, which is fine with me because it will give me time to upgrade my transcript. I'm still waiting on the scholarship package from Miami. I'd love to get in to NU but I don't expect to, so we shall see. Good Luck.
Brilliant, good luck this cycle.
I might not hear for a little while because I retook the LSAT in December but I will let you know when I hear.
I heard work experience is important, but I feel that my work experience hasn't been working at Starbucks for the most part. I am not going to take a year off, I'd just go to the next best school for me.
Congrats on your acceptances!! Seems like your off to a fast and solid start!!!
Yea the LSAT is no punk!!! But with that said, you have gotten into some solid schools that a lot of people would be happy to attend!! You also have a great GPA!! I'm waiting on my LSAT scores to come back...Keep in touch!
I received an envelope in the mail from FSU. Congrats on your acceptance to NC Central!
Already in at UGA...very nice. Thanks for the comment. Good luck to you, too. Especially at NW.
No, by the time I applied they'd stopped doing interviews. GL to you.
I mean, I would hope GW part-time would be a safety. If it isn't, in the words of Wayne Brady, I might have to choke a b*tch...or myself. No but on the real, I don't know if I'd even go to GW PT. I'm not that hard-up on myself, I figure I'll just do something else with my life if I don't get in somewhere I want to go. What about you, you seem pretty dead-set on going to law school based on your list. I think you have a great shot at NU FWIW.
Not to be crass, but what kind of minority are you? That seems to play a part too.
Cool. You're gonna have a great cycle, man.
Congrats on your success as well. You aren't doing too bad yourself! Looks like it has been all success so far! Keep it up.
Next...T-14 together...
Thanks and good luck to you!
Good luck with your cycle as well, and congrats on all of your acceptances so far
Yay for scholarships & your most recent acceptance!
i rarely checked my status for stetson, so i don't know
when did you hear about your scholarship for UMiami?
Thanks:) Yep- I heard from Howard via snail mail.
Congrats on your acceptance to Northeastern! I also applied early action since it's my top choice and am currently waiting for some news. How did they contact you? Best of luck with your decision!
Thanks. Happy New Year too and I second that I too will be where God's will takes me.
That's good news and bad news. I fully expect that this will be the make or break month for me. Honestly, I'm only waiting for Northwestern. Everywhere else will just be one more decision I'll have to make. Best of luck to you this month as well
Good luck to you as well. These next two months will definitely makes for some intense emotions...and perhaps change our lives. Here we go....
Major congrats on your acceptances and $$!!
In a word...Fantastic!! Very relaxed, yet professional. I had a 3L. He and I talked for about and hour (about 30 min. longer than usual). We talked mainly about my resume. He was intrigued with some of my various internships and my job. Overall GREAT experience.
Honestly, I can't say that I had a "shot" anywhere I applied. I just applied where I wanted to go and let that be it. Up until about a week ago I didn't have 1 academic LOR because I've been out of UGrad for so long. But then I had the chair of a dept. at Northwestern write me and LOR and a prof at NU send another letter on my behalf. So if I thought I had a slim-to-none chance before now I think maybe having two strong academic LORs from within the school I say my chances are now just slim:-) I never count anything out until I get the rejection. I didn't expect to be waitlisted at Fordham. But since then I've learned that the "whole person" concept can overcome factors such as grades and numbers. I'm just hoping and praying like everyone else.
NO, I didn't go to NU for UG (I'm not that smart, lol). I know the dept. head from a prior experience that happened some time ago. She just happened to be a bit of a fan of mine (thankfully) and she in turn introduced me to two other law prof's--and that's how that went. I actually have a few ties to the law school, but I didn't use them as "soft factors" in my application process. They spoke up on their own about me. I of course didn't stop them!!!
Thanks so much...I still can't believe it!
My interview went well. Did you interview? I see you went complete before December too, our decision is due by 1-23-2009. Keep your fingers crossed!
I haven't been on here much. Happy New Year! Leaning towards anywhere in particular these days?
I met a former student at a law firm in Phoenix. I'm hoping that Northwestern looks beyond raw numbers and takes my work experience and everything else into consideration.
I haven't done anything amazing, but I worked full time at a nursing home throughout my undergraduate studies.(3 years)I graduated in December. Northwestern is one of the few law schools that prefer students with work experience. So I hope that works to my advantage.
Best of luck to you too. Hopefully we both get good news!
I checked my status checker to find a link to my decision letter. Denied. (No big surprise though)
Denied.
Thanks. Good luck to you too.
So the status checker says that they are unable to locate my desicion letter.. its annoying bc ive been calling for the past 3 days and they tell me i just have to wait until the problem is fixed. Unbelievable!
I graduated in 05.. so its been a while. Still waiting and waiting..
hey.. in at Northeastern as well..seems like we got the same scholly.. Dean's? Congrats.. nothing yet from Northwestern...
Yea.. i dont think ill be taking it either.. but its good to know its there. Im sick of calling NW..arhghhg
Soo. i got some answers and am on hold.. Im soo grateful it wasnt a flat out rejection. Praying for you!!
Looks like you're still having a very impressive cycle! Best wishes
I really liked my visit. I could sincerely see myself there for the next three years and pretty happy at that! How are you doing?
Congrats, congrats, congrats!!!! Wasn't that your top choice??? Regardless that is huge!! Congrats again!!! Life is going to be nice at a T10!
Congratulations on Northwestern....I hope to be in the same place next fall!!!! Your were right about 2009 being your year
You got in to NU!!!! Way to go...OMG I'm so excited for you. I got put on hold...so that's what I'm doing. I'm holding on. Congrats on Howard to. I bet it's been a great weekend for you. What's the Howard acceptance look like. Email? Little letter? WOW I am so happy for you at NU!!!
You are truly blessed! is there any other acceptance that can top this one for you? Congrats!!
I just received the same good news!! We're doing awesome!
Congrats on Cornell! Found out I got in today, and I'm really excited.
Congratulations on all your acceptances and scholarships!!! Are you leaning towards any particular schools right now?
Your cycle has been amazing so far! Good luck with the rest!
Is Northwestern where you think you'll end up?
Still undecided...I'm waiting to hear back from a handful of schools and of course the money! How about you?
Exactly the same. It's between UVA or Cornell but leaning toward UVA. In-state tuition might be just too good to pass up! Money sure does talk.
Is that a Northweastern acceptance I see up there!?! You did it! So, that's where you're going right? Congrats!
Congrats!!!!!! Did you add a "Why Cornell"?
thinking of withdrawing my app from Northwestern (I was put on hold). still waiting on GULC and NYU. Have you decided yet?
I've been reading hella bad stuff about the state of the legal market and I'm actually considering applying for a one year Masters in Teaching program, teaching for 2 yrs, and then reapplying to more of the t-14-also where most of my dream schools lie on the list.
yes, i'm actually going during the diversity weekend (Apr 2nd-4th) which should be fun. i'm looking forward to it.
Sorry for the delay...That's great that you've got your choices narrowed down and Northwestern is a great school. Attending Cornell would be amazing, but I have also gotten scholarships from other great schools. With the current state of America, I am a little torn, but I hope visiting the schools and researching my options more will help ease my decision.
Congratulations on Northwestern! Looking at your cycle, you are the man. Congrats on your acceptances and good luck wherever you decide to go.
I would love to go to either Brooklyn or Cardozo, but the scholarship offer I received from the University of Arizona is for more than full tuition. So it looks like I have a problem.
Not really. I plan on getting my LLM, so I will go to school in NY for that, which is where I want to practice. (Although I still haven't truly decided if I'm going to U of A yet.)
You are very right my friend. Through Christ ALL things are possible and words cannot begin to describe how happy I am for you. Good luck with everything and the best success in your endeavors!
hey there! are you close to making a decision on which school you will be attending? right now it's looking like cornell for me unless i get into gtown. i see Ellie also dropped hate on ur wall... must have been an angry law school reject lol.
Well personally, I think both are really awesome schools. Personally, though, I'm not sure if I'd want to move all the way IL, esp since I don't know anyone there. I would say, that go with whichever school gives you the most financial aid. and def visit cornell to see if you would like it. if you're a city guy, ithaca is def a change of pace (took me a little time to adjust myself). keep me posted!
...Congrats!!! All things are possible, my friend.
Remember... when you're making 160k at a top firm, people like Ellie and other AA haters will be making what your secretary will be making! Congrats on your acceptances! As three of my t14 acceptances have stated... you absolutely deserve it!!!!
Soo is that a done deal for you? CONGRATS>> If it is- to a cycle well done!
Well done with your cycle. Good luck at Northwestern!!!!!
soo happy for you! im sending my deposit to American next week. I will still hold out and see if I can get off the waitlist at any of the schools.. or hear back from Cornell or Nu. otherwise American here I go!..Well have to see what the next couple of months hold.
on Georgia and good luck on UF !! it must be killing you! I wish I had as much faith as you :/.
See you are Northwestern!
Congratulations on Northwestern. Great (!) for you and one more position open at Howard! Here's to you!
We applied to some of the same schools. Congrats on Northwestern. That is truly awesome! And you're right, Christ makes the impossible possible :-)
Congratulations on choosing Northwestern and with a fantastic scholarship! That's great! Is that where you are definitely planning on attending or are you going to wait to see about UPenn, since you said that was one of your top choices as well?
Hey, congratulations on NU. I was just curious as to some of your soft factors. I'm really hoping for NU and I have some interesting softs as well. Thanks for your time, and again, congratulations on NU!
Congratulations on NU! Gives me hope that I still have a chance:) How is the first year treating you? I love this school and really want to go. I have a similar LSAT and GPA to yours and would appreciate any info or advice that you may have? Thanks for sharing
We both have similar numbers and are applying to Duke (I may try my chances at Northwestern as well) Best wishes!
