I sent them a packet completely unsolicited by snail mail with my midterm grades, awards earned since I sent out my application, a copy of my abstract from my research project, and a list of other schools I was accepted to. I think that with your numbers, expressing a strong interest would be helpful.
By unsolicited, I meant that they never asked me for anything or even really communicated with me at all, other than saying I was on the waitlist and not to email or call about it. My letter was very brief and to the point, nothing flowery. I simply stated that although I have been accepted at many fine institutions, Hastings was my first choice and that I would definitely attend if accepted. I also mentioned some things about my current grades raising my cumulative GPA, presenting an original research project at a conference, and being nominated for valedictorian. Anything to show that you have actively been pursuing positive things and intend to attend if admitted.
what do you think so far? loyola it is?
i don't understand why you got put on the waitlist at hastings in the first place.. i mean your lsat score is high and your gpa is their median.. i mean i got rejected from them because they average scores and a 155 and a 162 avg is a 159.. thats why i didnt get in... i'm sure you'll get off the wait list.. yeah gettin a 170 is very difficult in all my practices i was hitting about a 166+ i think the highest i hit once was like a 172 haha but that doesnt happen too often.. I'm shocked someone is picking loyola over notre dame.. is your friend on this website also or no? do you live up in sf or in so cal? i think loyola was a easy choice for me because i live in so cal (orange county)
hey yeah i went to cal state fullerton, i'm set on loyola.. i want to work in la and honestly loyola has the best job prospects out of the schools i got into.. if you want to practice in sd then def usd would be a great school to go too..i think going to hastings u have more exposure to the sf firms and would probably end up working there but getting into usd isnt too hard for your grades i mean they gave me so much money too you know what i mean? did you see their huge drop tho in the us news rankings i was like wow can't really trust that school u know what i mean? but def USD is #1 in the san deigo market so yeah if thats where you want to prac then thats a good school
are you taking the june exam?
good luck on it
hey how did you get loyola to increase your scholarship?
who did you send the email 2?
It was close to 4.0.
I will be attending the University of San Diego and I'm staying on the Loyola wait list just to see if they would have let me in. Loyola has no chance of getting me because I want to practice in San Diego and dislike LA greatly. Additionally, after using my other offers, such as the one from Case Western Reserve, I was able to get 16K a year from USD. Now that is really something because my numbers were not high enough for an automatic scholarship at admission but nevertheless my negotiations have given me the benefits that people with higher numbers have received. Also, it's nice to see another UCR student doing well. Have you seen UCR's average LSAT on your LSAC report? It's extremely low. It seems that we did significantly better on the LSAT than most others from UCR. Seeing as how you did better than I in both GPA and LSAT, why didn't you apply to UCLA and USC? Why didn't apply to USD as well? Are you likely heading to Loyola even though you dislike the place? How did Loyola remind you of UCR? I've never visited and don't see a connection between the two. When did you graduate? Since we've been gone UCR's Chancellor has announced that she is going to Purdue. Now that is some serious recruitment on Purdue's part. I also noticed that many UCR students attend USD for law school. I've seen a number of UCR B.A./USD J.D. attorneys on Martindale working in San Diego. It looks to me that I will likely have some similarities with recruiters in San Diego in regards to background. That can lead to a job.
Hey, did you apply to USD late and then ask them to match Loyola's offer? I'm glad you were able to get in with such a generous scholarship so late in the game. If you are heading to USD then we'll be classmates!
Yeah, we need more qualified students at USD so that the ranking goes up. I think you'll be accepting into Davis and Hastings but if you decide not to attend, do you need a roommate in SD? ;) I'm wondering if I should withdraw from the Loyola waitlist. I'll probably get my acceptance after you withdraw tomorrow. Then I'll withdraw and hand it over to someone else. The same thing happened to me with USD. I sent them an e-mail asking for a scholarship increase and then received the increase letter the same day that I sent mine out via snail mail. Two days after getting the increased offer I received a response to my e-mail stating that I would have to wait until next Monday to be evaluated. As long as I got the increase, I'm happy. Congrats on getting into a school that you're happy attending. Hope to see you there!
how'd the lsat go?
Sorry for the super-late response. I didn't see your message between all that stupid spam. Well I chose Loyola mainly because I want to practice in Los Angeles, and believe it's easier to network coming from Loyola, rather than Davis or Hastings. And the scholarship I was offered also heavily influenced my decision. Well good luck with SD, and the waitlists!!
are you serious? i'm sorry.. so you going to usd for sure? what made you choose that over loyola?
haha yeah that's cool man don't make too much money in law school haha ... well i'm glad you were able to make a decision ... and I do think the biggest difference between Loyola and USD is where you want to work after LS ... if LA is not the place for you then USD is definitely a great place to go so i wish you the best of luck!
Hey I was pulled of the waitlist the day after you. Are you looking for housing? I am and either i want to house alone or with a fellow law student so send me an e-mail if you are interested! -carla
The housing situation up there is kinda tough especially if you want a one bedroom or studio. I am on fin aid so I have a budget. Check out university village for about 650 it basically covers everything and is on the busline to campus or a bike ride away. I did go to UCR graduated 06
Congratulations on getting off its waiting list! You and I both asked Tahoes for some advice, and whatever you did work for you. I'm still holding out, so I hope that the information I sent them will get me some notice. Let me know if you have any new suggestions for me.
I'm actually not sure. I live in SoCal, so odds are I'd pick Loyola over SC, especially since Loyola gave me money. If Hastings answers with a yes, though...
